Off THEIR Minds: Where Can Superheroes Go On Vacation?

Comic book tell us what they think about heroes going on vacation.

Once again comic book creators are put on the spot and give answers to the questions you want to hear. Or at least answers to the questions I want to hear. Last summer I brought up the question of where can superheroes go on vacation. Superheroes have two things preventing them from fully enjoying some time to themselves. First, they have a sense of duty when it comes superheroics. Second, they are like celebrities in that most of them can't really go out in public without causing a scene among their fans.

At last October's Long Beach Comic Con, I asked some comic book creators what they thought on the subject. You've seen what I had to say on the matter. Now let's hear what they have to say.

Where do you think they can go on vacation? Should they be able to take time off or are they bound to their duties of saving lives?

Doctors save lives all the time, and there's never an end to people needing medical aid. They manage to say "enough is enough", realize that they can only do so much, and take time off for vacations. I don't see how comic book heroes are any different.

Should they go on vacations? Definitely, would break the flow of the comics where they walk from one disaster to another and even people like Batman need the break, especially Batman, or he will risk dying from a stress related condition.

Will they? Only if you are the X-Men i think, since they want to be like normal people with normal lives, but trouble just singels them out all the time.

IF (and that's a big if) they have the opportunity to go on vacation, they should ask Ganthet if they could spend their vacation on Odym

This really seems like the perfect planet to spend your vacation without any disturbances, given that there aren't any universal disasters at hand :D

Psylocke in the waterfall. Sexy Morbius in the swamp. And She Hulk wherever the hell she wanted to be.

Well Herogasm showed us that those supers really can party it up when they need to and inventing a reason to leave is very simple. In a more normal universe however most heroes should find time away from their daily activites. Even Batman need some down time to recharge the batteries and refocus on what he is doing. Without giving the brain time to slow down you will eventually become fatigued. Even Odin needs to rest sometimes.

Must definite , we all need a break from time to time , but I don't know whats with every one always saying that beaches = only places for vacations ... there are so many places out there even a simple hotel get away is nice from time to time

Isn't there in Star Trek a holiday planet, Raiza or something like that? maybe the various comicverses should have something like that

Sure they can vacation! Have any of the other 5 thousand superheroes fill in for you for a week. Go to cottage country here in canada, no one will bother you and its just You, a J, a beer sitting on a dock by the lake. Perfect. Damn. Cant wait for summer.

you would think all the heros would rotate their duties so that while one is away on vacation the others will be watching over the city. For example While Bruce Wayne was lost in time, The others in the bat family took over. wouldn't it be the same thing if he were to go on vacation?

Ya gotta love Jimmy Palmiotti he always has the best answers, shame on you Dustin that was such a cheesy response.

For powerhouses/savage heroes a trip to the Savageland it would be fun to throw on a loincloth and live off the land and they won't have to hold back.

Royalty such as Namor or Black Panther, are always on vacation when they are not in their respected kingdoms, just think about it they have no responsibilities, diplomatic immunities, and the woman love them.

Superman has his Fortress of Solitude, but really they don't because the readers don't want to see that, and the artists and writers don't want to show that. Thats why they always have to include a threat during their vacation that they have to stop, or have a secondary story where, while the hero is on vacation, the threat that is elsewhere is being handled.

You know what's funny, with these TMZ like blogs, i'm still waiting to see how superheroes manage to pay their taxes, that would be very interesting to know which hero fails to do their taxes.

The ABC islands are nice and remote, expensive though, I doubt any superhero would really go to Hedonism, some of those Jamaican's might snap a shot or two (in my 15 plus years in the business I've only sold Hedonism once). Tahiti or Fiji would be nice, if they can afford it, any place remote and void of television and internet. But if there are any super heroes out there that want to go on vacation tell them to give me a call.

doctors save lives, superheroes save lives, citys, planets, and universes. that is way more guilt than a doctor wud have. also doctors would have a backup doctor, its not like when a doctor goes on vacation the hospital is empty of doctors

There are more than enough superheroes around to pick up the slack. There are organizations of heroes, many heroes have friends who are superheroes as well. It's their own fault if they don't make use of their allies to take some R&R.
