Off My Mind: Should WB Make a Justice League Movie?

As of now, it seems they have given up on the idea.

DC and Marvel are both busy trying to make quality comic book movies these days. Marvel has gone the route of making separate introductions with their characters (Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, etc) with the plan of bringing them all together in The Avengers in 2012. DC/WB has had success with the Batman movies. We know Green Lantern is underway and hopefully we'll be hearing more about Superman very soon.

In a recent interview, Dian Nelson, President of DC Entertainment, has made it clear that they are not Marvel. Nelson said they have a "different attitude about how you build a content slate."

It appears that despite the project that George Miller was attached to in 2007 isn't going to happen (you can read a little about that project here). While we would all love a Justice League movie with our favorite DC characters, is it for the best that we most likely won't see one?

Yes Iron Man and Iron Man 2 have been successful. What we've seen of Thor and Captain America looks promising. Regardless, I am still concerned with how The Avengers will turn out. It is a very ambitious project to take on. There will be a lot of characters (along with actors' egos) on screen at the same time. They will have to hope that moviegoers will have seen the previous movies to know who the different Avenger characters will be. We've seen how bad movies can get when there are too many characters and story lines going on at the same time. With a team movie, there's no way you can avoid "too many characters" unless the actors are just standing around in the background doing very little.

I want the Avengers movie to be great but I have to say I'm okay with DC's decision to focus on individual movie characters instead. We've seen too many train wrecks and I think a lot is riding on the next few superhero movies we see. We've heard the comments that comic book movies may be just a fad. In order for us to continue getting well made, big budget movies in this genre, we can't afford to have any more disasters. I would love to see DC create its colorful universe in live action but first things first. Right now they have a successful Batman franchise  and that's it. Hopefully Green Lantern will be great as well. We need the millions of non-comic book readers to embrace these characters in order for a successful team movie to be made.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think DC is making the wise decision in focusing on individuals rather than a JLA movie?
