Off My Mind: If Batman Dies, Who Keeps The Kryptonite Ring?

Did Superman allow Dick to keep the ring when Bruce "died"?

Let me know if I missed something. I can't remember if this has been brought up since Batman "died." Yesterday as I was driving from the comic shop to the office I started thinking, "What happened to the Kryptonite Ring when Batman 'died'?"

Let's back up in case you're not totally familiar with the story of the ring. Basically Lex Luthor had a piece of Kryptonite put in a ring he could wear and always have a weapon 'at hand' against Superman. The ring ended up in Batman's possession and Superman decided he wanted Batman to have it. If anything ever happened to Superman and he went out of control, the one person he knew could stop him was Batman. He felt Batman was the one person he could trust to keep the ring and not use it against him unless he had to. This just further showed the strength in their relationship.

As far as Superman is concerned, Bruce Wayne is dead. He was there when Darkseid blasted him with his omega beams and he brought his charred body back to the Batcave. Superman claimed that it was Bruce's body as he examined it down to its DNA.

If Bruce was dead, who gets to keep the Kryptonite Ring? We can assume that Dick Grayson has it since he became Batman. Superman has worked with Dick in the past. I'm sure he knows Dick can be trusted, especially if Bruce chose him to be his successor. But does that mean Superman would still trust Dick with his life? All it takes is one mess up for an enemy to stumble across the ring in Dick's possession and Superman is done for. How many times has someone like Deathstroke gotten the better of him?

My question is, if Bruce does in fact ever die for good, who would be Superman's number two choice to keep the ring. It can't be Lois since she's pretty much defenseless against Superman's enemies and I don't know if she could bring herself to use it against him if he was mind controlled. We've only really seen the deep friendship between Superman and Batman. I can't think of anyone that Superman would respect as much as he respects Bruce. Sure he's "pals" with Jimmy Olsen but come on, would you trust Jimmy with the ring? Maybe Wonder Woman?

Where is the ring right now? Does Dick carry it in a compartment in his utility belt? That's crazy too as we've seen Dick get beat. If someone beats Dick and takes his utility belt, they could stumble across the ring and do away with Superman. I'm surprised that crazy Jason Todd didn't try taking it when wandering around the Batcave right after Bruce's "death."

I hate to say that I don't have an answer to this right now. I'd have to really think about who Superman would trust as much as he trusts Bruce. Who do you think would be Superman's second choice?

This was back when Dick was parading around as Renegade. What actually happened was Slade placed a kryptonite gem in Rose's empty socket. Dick had no clue until the reveal.

That is hard to say, but I think Superman's second choice would be Wonder Woman. I mean, after Bruce, Wonder Woman is close friend & I do believe he trusts her.

I think the Kryptonite Ring is somewhere deep inside the Batcave. I'm pretty sure Batman has a secret room no one has seen before. It would be too dangerous to keep the Ring in his utility belt so I think it's in the Batcave...or maybe it's in his manson..who knows...hopefully we'll find out soon.

Well, theoretically, Jonnz, Diana, and Jordan all wouldn't really need the ring. Diana maybe. Other than her, no one else is really a good enough strategist to be able to put it to good use, The ring doesn't stop Kent in his tracks, it just slows him down enough to give them a fighting chance.

All in all, I don't think Dick is smart enough to make good use of the ring if he does hold onto it. Beside that, if Damian got a hold of it it could be bad bad news... I don't know, I think I'd have to see Kent and Grayson meet up with Grayson under the cowl and see how it plays out. As far as I know, that hasn't happened yet, right?

... we saw Batman in the cave with his belt on. He still has the thing.
if he ever did die though, Tim without a doubt. the ring is for strategic purposes, and Tim is captain strategy.

If Batman dies, Who keeps the kryptonite ring?

Number One - Batman will never die
(Ok, so I'm a little wrong on that one - but he always comes back)

Number Two - If he did die for real, he'd bury himself with it....
Just so his corpse could have the pleasure of kicking the hell out of Supes too.

for all those replying with tim drake

why would batman leave the ring to him he barely knows him.Tim got into the batfamily not to long ago i mean in their worlds its being like 3 years? even if he was told who supes was how much interaction could he have had with clark? Supes knew batman before robin so hes know dick since he began his crime fighting carear .as someone put it clark is like an uncle to dick. After bruce fired dick from being robin(the new reason as to why dick stopped being robin) dick went to see clark for advice on what to do with his life(and from the story told by clark he named himself nightwing).Im not even sure if tim views superman as anything else other than superman.

What about Lois? in the case that Clark loses his mind through Kryptonite (Red,Silver) and might need to defend herself or others.

Superman of Earth-2 fried the K-Ring with heat vision in "Infinite Crisis" when Batman tried to use it on him in the batcave. Remember, Kriptonite from our universe doesn't work on the Earth-2 Superman.

Let the Guardians keep it. They have made some really responsible choices these past few years.

I dont know, for some reason I just dont see her in the running. Understanding she's part of the Big Three and all that, but keep in mind the whole premise of the ring is that, if Superman ever goes crazy, loses control, gets taken over, there's a way to stop him. But what happens if Wonder Woman goes crazy, or loses control and has the ring? I guess in my mind if its to dangerous for Superman to hold on to then it would be to dangerous for Wonder Woman as well.
