Off My Mind: Has DC Revealed The Future of the DCU?

Rip Hunter's chalkboard could tell us what to expect.

 Dun dun duuuuun!
 Dun dun duuuuun!
Everyone likes teasers and DC has given us yet another possible peak at the future of the DC Universe. You might recall that Rip Hunter, the time traveling hero, kept a couple chalkboards with all his crazy scribblings about events from different periods in his time lab. When Booster Gold came across them, "Time is Broken" was plastered across the top. Whether or not these notes have any meaning depends on the precautions taken to change the impending events. Looks like he's not done writing things down.

In this week's Time Masters: Vanishing Point #6 (and on yesterday's The Source), we saw new notes. Rip, Booster Gold and Goldstar returned to the lab. Goldstar insisted she ran a security sweep after the Time Stealers left. Rip was concerned with the breach due to all the equipment he has from different time periods. Despite the reassurance that nothing was touched, Rip discovered that his chalkboard contained events that could happen, only he did not write them down.

Who wrote then and what do they mean? Let's consider some of these dire proclamations.

Why did it have to be BRUCE?

Ooh, what could this mean? We can assume this is Bruce as in "Bruce Wayne." He just returned after the heroes thought he died. Now that he's safe and sound, could this mean there is another danger around the corner for Batman? Or maybe he accidentally wins the lottery and someone is bummed because he's already a billionaire.

S!H!A!Z!A!M!

Something should be happening to the Marvel Family very soon. I haven't been thrilled since the wizard Shazam died, Billy/Captain Marvel replaced him and Freddie/Captain Marvel Jr. became the new Captain Marvel. We've recently seen that Billy and Mary don't have thier powers and Osiris is a powder keg about to explode...something is going to happen soon.

Where is SUPERMAN?

I think we already know the answer to that. He's busy walking across America.

CAPTAIN COLD = HERO?

This is a crazy one. Sure Captain Cold has his own set or morals but he's done a lot of bad things. We should definitely be seeing what this is about since Time Masters is said to continue in Flashpoint #2 (along with Booster Gold #44).

Abin Sur: savior!

It always seemed that Abin Sur's story was simple. He was a Green Lantern, his ship crashed on Earth, his ring sought out Hal Jordan and he died. Years later we saw (during the Sinestro Corps War) that he discovered a prophecy about Blackest Night and the Emotional Spectrum (if only he managed to tell Hal!). Is there more to Abin Sur's story that we still haven't seen? What would make him a savior now? Then again, if this deals strictly with Flashpoint, we saw that teaser asking "What if the spaceship never crashed?" Erik brought up the possibility that it could be dealing with Abin Sur's ship not crashing on Earth.

WONDER WOMAN: PRINCESS OF WAR

Again, going with the Flashpoint teasers, we see that Wonder Woman and Aquaman have an arranged marriage to prevent war. Wonder Woman is already dealing with messed up timelines in her own series since the gods changed the timeline for their own reasons. We also saw in The Flash #6 that there was a paradox involving Wonder Woman.

How does his white chalk write in black?
How does his white chalk write in black?
Clearly the more we think about this, the more likely this is all about Flashpoint and those teasers. It's been stated that Flashpoint is not an alternate Earth and the stories are taking place in the proper DC Universe. We'll have to wait and see how these changes occur and what repercussions they'll have once Flashpoint is wrapped up. Is there anything Rip Hunter and Booster Gold to prevent the crazy changes?

Which one of these chalkboard messages sparked your interest the most? What do you think the others (that I didn't touch on) mean?
