Off My Mind: Did Batman Really Wet His Pants?

According to Kevin Smith he did.

No Caption Provided
Batman is the world's greatest detective and the master of many things. Although apparently he is not the master of his own bladder.

In Kevin Smith's Batman: The Widening Gyre #6, Batman tries to make the point that no one is an expert at first. It turns out that Batman claims he actually peed in his pants one time.  Are we supposed to actually accept this?

I really like Kevin Smith. I have to admit that there's been something off about the Widening Gyre. There's been something that's made it hard for me to want to keep up with the series. And then this issue came out. I get that Batman is trying to boost someone's confidence by explaining how he wasn't the badass he is today in the beginning. He briefly struggled with the decision to share this bit of information. Batman was trying to do the right thing, but can the Batman fans actually accept that he pissed himself
 == TEASER ==
Let's see that image again:
No Caption Provided
What makes this more interesting is that DC allowed this little exchange to happen. Sure there's the possibility that Batman just made up this story but that doesn't seem likely. There's no mention of that later in the comic. Basically, DC has allowed Kevin Smith to knock Batman down a peg by having him wet himself. This story is, as far as I know, not an Elseworlds book. I'm not sure what's worse, that someone said, "Let's have Batman pee in his pants" or the fact that someone at DC said, "Yeah, let's do that."

Does this change the way you think of Batman? Batman: Year One showed us that Batman wasn't an expert from the beginning but having him wet his pants in another thing. Does this change the way you feel about Kevin Smith's writing? Can you still look at Batman and not think about him actually peeing on himself? Does Batman now wear bat-diapers to ensure this doesn't happen again?

Wow, I never paid much attention to Kevin Smith's writing after the utter tripe that was the two year process of what 5 issues of Black Cat/Spider-Man ... and I don't care much for stoner humor ...

This is sheer and utter nonsense. How is this man getting jobs as a comic write of iconic figures? I mean, really!

There were a lot of other ways to make that point besides saying I peed on myself. I do not accept this story. What horrible writing.

Once again, Kevin Smith shows us what a self-indulgent dink he is. Typical indie success story. He thinks his success is an indicator of his genius, when in fact he maybe wrote one or two good things and there was a confluence of good luck and people's taste meeting what he had to offer. Stop, stop, stop making heroes more "human." Could you try making them...I don't know...heroic?

I don't know. I guess that was Kevin Smith's way to make Batman more "human," but I don't like that. That's not how Batman is. Even if he was just starting out, he had more control than that.

@couzinit99:  thats harsh. i think smith writes batman amazingly 1: Joker is odd...in Dark Knight Returns Frank Miller implies he is Gay and in love with Batman which is why he stops, i could so see Joker acting like this. 2: Batman was trying to sympathize with the new guy hell the whole story is about Batman/Bruce being more human and falling in love for the 1st time in a long time. its a great story...plus the ending was just ZOMFG! =]

Well sure it was a stupid movie, but the ending to Batman The Widening Gyre #6 easily made up for it....what a great cliffhanger.

It's ok, it actually makes Batman more human, but the question is when he wet his pants. I mean he could have done it at a young age right?

Batman wears a full body suit, it would be a hassle to take it off to take a piss, why not piss the suit? This makes sense to me...

.... Let me first start of by letting every one know that Batman and everyone in the Batman Family are my absolute favorite comic characters I've been reading them for as long as i could read.... But I've always assumed that all kinds of super hero's piss and/or probably shit them self's on many occasions.
  I always assumed that the whole "underwhere on the out side"  thing was some kind of super wayne tech personal waste control thing or something that i didn't know about. Batman thinks of everything right..so he would have something if he pissed himself...i digress, these guys are allways getting electricuted, poisoned , punched really hard and all other kinds of crazy stuff done to them. So ,even though im not a huge Kevin Smith fan, i would have to agree...we all have our "accidents"

I like the risks Kevin takes in his writing. He's giving a little of his own touch to Batman as a character. It's definitely something Kevin Smith would throw around on a SModcast or casual conversation.

I'm almost entirely sure that this was done very tongue-in-cheek. Kevin Smith is a huge fan and I feel he has too much respect for the medium and the characters to have made Batman mean that seriously.

I though Batman was implying the concussive force of the explosion he was in caused his bladder (and I presume other vital organs) to be affected, not that he peed himself because he was scared

@Hadez:
Him peeing his pants doesnt give him a more "human" element. And to all the people who disagree really look at the poor quality of his writing.  I don't think Joker needed to do what he did in Smith's last miniseries. Honeslty i don't think i could see him doing it at all.  I could see other things happening besides him bending over as a reward for his escape.  Joker has been one of my favorite Batman villains and there's a difference between making him malitiously snarky and witty to just plane crude humor that can be seen in any of Smith's films (although i think the crude factor works inthose films because it's not Joker and its not Batman he was workiing with). I honestly doubt Batman would be dumb enough to forget how to control his blatter and just pee himself.  For being one of the smartest characters in the DCU, i don't see him making a mistake like that. Think logically for a second.  I think Kevin Smith's writing is all right when it comes to comedy films, but when you're entering an entirely new medium, you have to understand that certain characters behave this way for a reason, and to divert their character drastically can definetly hurt the book. Sure, he wasn't as experienced as he is now as he explains, but i just can't see him making a mistake like that. I mean look at all the jokes people have been posting about Batman now. It doesnt give him character, it makes people laugh at him, not with him.

I just ignore the PIS or ideas I don't agree with and move on with the story. Writers have been adding stuff to origins, changing origins entirely, writing characters ironically out of character in some stories, etc. for years. I don't like it but I'm used to it.

How many times has Batman had a great big fall from a high rise or been caught in an explosion?  That alone will make even the strongest bladder squeal with a force that not only takes the breath out of you but also makes you... pee your pants.

I thought that they've said that Kevin Smith's Batman stuff was outside of canon. At least, I remember them saying that about Cacophony, and I thought they said that about this book as well; the rationale being that Kevin Smith is a busy guy and doesn't have time to learn Batman canon for a miniseries.
