Obsidian Entertainment Want To Make Another 'Star Wars' Video Game

The developers of 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II' have pitched an idea for another video game, but will we ever see it come to fruition?

Star Wars and the future of Star Wars projects, games and films have become the thing to talk about lately. From who will be the director of the next Star Wars film, to whether the next spin-off movie will feature a young Han Solo or focus on Boba Fett, Star Wars has been on everyone's mind. Since the sale of Star Wars to the Walt Disney Company back in October, many expected major to be made to many Star Wars licensing agreements. Would Dark Horse continue to publish Star Wars comics, for example? What about video games? The last big Star Wars game was 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II,' a game developed by Obsidian Entertainment. So is another game made in a similar vein to be expected from Obsidian in the near future? Based on a recent interview with Obsidian's CEO Feargus Urquhart, the game dev is "heavily lobbying to develop a new Star Wars RPG."

“I would say it’s within the top three pitches we’ve ever come up with,” the head of Obsidian stated. But what about the focus? What point in time will this next game take place? The great thing about the Star Wars Universe is that it is so vast, you can choose any point in time, really.

There’s a lot of different eras in Star Wars, and that’s what we would focus on,” Urquhart replied when I pointed out that The Old Republic’s relative lack of success could have Disney seeing that license in a less than favorable light.

We pitched a between-Episode III and Episode IV game [to LucasArts]. Because we think that timeframe is super interesting. It’s the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few. So it was an interesting time to set a game, and you know, Chris Avellone came up with a really cool story…We also latched onto it because it has elements people remember, but not the stories. It can just completely not involve [the movies]. It can tease them, but nothing else.

Based on the Interview with Urquhart, Obsidian Entertainment is ready to get to work on the next game as soon as Disney gives them the green light, but what do you think? Did you enjoy 'Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II'? Would you like to see Obsidian develop another Star Wars RPG? What did you like about the first game? What would you like to see change? Let us know in the comments.
