First of all, Annihilus didn't "escape" the Negative Zone. He was brought to Earth from the Negative Zone by Johnny Storm, who had taken the Cosmic Control Rod for himself.

Secondly, this quote from Ex Nihilo in Avengers #2 - We Were Avengers explains that the Builders ARE from the 616 universe, and evolved there.

"At the dawn of everything were the Builders. They were the first race, the oldest living things in the cosmos. They were a perfect people - and for a great while they worshipped the goddess, the mother-maker herself, THE UNIVERSE.

Eventually, they grew beyond this - abandoning the old ways of reverence for the new path of relevance.

As expansion and evolution occurred, the Builders created aggressive systems to direct, shape and control the very structure of space and time."

And thirdly, if you're unfamiliar with the story because you're too lazy to read the comics in the first place, your opinion doesn't count for much...

Johnny put Annihilus back in the negative zone after that. You can see him there while Johnny is on a date with Darla in the negative zone in F4 1 or 2 by Fraction. in FF# 8 he escapes the negative zone by hitching a ride on the baxter building after the wizard bentley whitman had teleported the building into the negative zone.

and your assuming that is the 616 ex nihilio is talking about, the quote proves nothing. unless you think that the personification of the universe is unique to the 616. that quote doesn't exclude the possibility of their origins being of a different universe. lucky for us we wont have to wait long for definitive answers with infinity looming so close.

$100 later and we'll all find out it was just a dream... Or Thanos trying to get the gems... Or it was all a clever ruse by Kang.. or Ultron.. Or Thanos.. Or the Skrulls.. blah blah Wolverine saved the day because he's not afraid to kill.

@world_breaker_elmo: Yes that is true. Although I can see Captain America leading this armada like he did with JLA vs Avengers against Krona. But I do see your point. Unless Hawkeye and other earth bound heroes gets an upgrade before the actual battle that increases their power, like say from a cosmic/magic or tech source then its a battle there not meant to be in.

But one can argue though that even though they don't belong in this battle, since their heroes and there universe is in danger - in their minds its only natural to fight for it regardless of the power gap. The only thing I wish is that they write it with less PIS as much as possible.

@world_breaker_elmo: How about Sentry, Captain Marvel and Thor. All 3 have shown enough power to go in to that category in some way. Thor during Chaos War, God of Thunder and that comic where he was chasing around Ego.

The few among the the many. Yes I would definately consider those 3, along with Blue Marvel and maybe a fully powered Scarlet Witch, but consider how many that simply should not have any business trying to deal with cosmic/galactic level problems? What is Spiderman going to do? Black Widow? Jubilee? Hawkeye? Wolverine? Luke Cage? What are they going to provide that the Surfer requires? Can people like them stand and bang alongside Glads or Thor? Can the limited minds of even Earth's greatest thinkers out plan Thanos or Adam Warlock? No. Not unless the following happens: High level characters jobbing to significantly lower ones, "super genius" engineer types start pulingl PIS pieces of tech out of their you-know-whats, or someone like Jeph Loeb gets a hold of a character.

Dammit ... why is this event not centered around Wolverine???

How dare they.

They always leave Logan out of big events like this ...

Ugh, I still don't like the whole "Avengers in space" idea.

I agree, besides, isn't that what the Guardians of the Galaxy are for?

Anyways, this is yet another THREAT OF CATASTROPHIC PROPORTIONS that for some reason can be resolved by the intervention of people like Captain America. Let me make this clear: if a guy whose abilities rely soley on his enhanced physical condition can help turn the tide of the battle, then the battle is certainly not that big.

If this is such a serious threat to THE EVERYTHING as it is being hyped - again, haven't we heard this before, then leave the humans and mutants on Earth and just go round up the Annihilators and possibly Adam Warlock and let them go to town on whomever/whatever is causing trouble. Let cosmic level threats be handled by cosmic level people!

Why would Annihilus help?

Isn't the Negative Zone considered a separate universe?

Why would he worry about he Builders?

More importantly, why does Marvel introduce the Builders as the universe's oldest race? How about the Celestials, the Watchers, and each race that comprise the Elders of the Universe?

I HATE what Marvel has done to canon in the past year...

You have no idea what Annihilus role will play

Annihilus escaped the Negative zone in a recent FF isue

With all the cracks in space time/universes its more than likely the builders are from a different universe. They have been shown to operate on a multiversal scale altogether(superflow structures). we have no idea where they are from yet.

@spinningbirdcake: speaking of New Avengers can you explain to me what Black Bolt showed his wife in the lates issue? I was so confused

I'm not entirely sure what he was doing. I assume it was just a weird representation of the incursions breaking them as heroes or something. I'm not sure what those crystal things were.

Avengers in space is what I always loved.Old school style going back to the Kree Skrull War, Korvac Saga and so on.When Bendis grounded them on Earth the stories started getting boring. Hickman brought the old feel back again!

I agree. Good to see this! I also love how Yu draws everyone. They all seem so awesome. Especially the Skrulls.

wonder who'll take over For Yu once he's off. Can't wait for this though!! looks sick!!! I've been following both titles, and safe to say it's way better than what Bendis did. If i did have a gripe, is that Hickman should be writing Guardians of the Galaxy instead.. he can go full space on them.

@kriminal: safe bet that the Avengers/New Avengers tie ins are essential considering they are written by Hickman. Also if you are going to read infinity you should know whats been going down in those books. the entire event has been building in them.

@waezi2: If they didn't bring back Star-Lord and Thanos and completely undermined Richard Rider's death then I would be more okay with the new Nova but they didn't so screw Sam Alexander I'll hate on him until the day they bring back Rich.

@trevel8182: I fell like a hypocrite saying this(I like second generation heroes, and think they should get more chances than they get), but I miss Rich.

@jonny_anonymous: Yeah, but Avengers is the new X-men. You know; "put that name of the popular franchise on as many comics as possible".

I'm sick of all things cosmic right now. I knew this might happen with Hickman on the title. He gets a bit sci-fiy. don't mind a cosmic story if it's a cosmic title like Guardains of the Galaxy, but I want my super hero books to be grounded on Earth. Let the aliens come here, not us go there. Yu is the man tho.

Looks good though I might skip the tie in issues to Infinity and just read the event Miniseries on it's own and then jump back on once it's over. The art looks amazing though.
