NIGHTCRAWLER On-going series in April

Chris Claremont pens the upcoming X-related title about everyone's favorite blue elf.

NIGHTCRAWLER #1 cover by Chris Samnee

You may have seen the teaser the other day which just said "BAMF!" Well, Marvel just announced that coming in April, Nightcrawler will get his own on-going series for the first time in years. The series will be written by longtime X-Men scribe Chris Claremont and drawn by Todd Nauck. A lot has changed in the world of X-Men, since Kurt Wagner's death and part of this book will explore that.

Joining Nightcrawler on his new adventure will be his longtime teammate and drinking buddy Wolverine. With Logan's involvement also comes a bit of a reality check for Kurt, as he will become aware of the deep schisms that have formed within the X-Men since he last saw them. Professor X has died, Cyclops has become the fugitive leader of a band of revolutionaries, Wolverine guides impressionable young mutants as the headmaster of the Jean Grey School, and most of Kurt's closest friends find themselves ideological opposites.

It sounds as though this new series will really take a look at how the world has changed and the relationships Kurt once had with his fellow X-Men.

Those interested in this upcoming series should really be reading AMAZING X-MEN, written by Jason Aaron and drawn by Ed McGuinness. In it, the X-Men find themselves in the afterlife, where Azazel, Nightcrawler's father, is on a quest to conquer Hell. It's going to take the X-Men and Nightcrawler working together to stop his reign of pirate-related terror.

Make sure to check out this new series this April by Claremont and Nauck, and check out some of Nauck's sketches for the series below!

What do you guys think about this series? How will Kurt come back to the living?

Really people? Why wouldn't Logan be in the beginning with Kurt. Kurt and Logan are pretty much best bros. Kurt's been gone for a while now so why wouldn't his best friend help him get back into the swing of things. Only thing that would make it better is if Colossus joined them, reuniting the three musketeers again

@danhimself:

I labelled your take with regards Claremont as too negative and narrow minded. Based on your comments, it is more than warranted. If you call that a "personal" insult and me "getting mad" (I assure you, I am no such thing) then it is probably for the best that you are indeed done with me.

Todd Nauck is the perfect artist for this book.

Oh look, ANOTHER title featuring Wolverine. Gee.

You know what would be cool, Marvel? Instead of having a "Nightcrawler" book, why not a solo X-Men anthology: Nightcrawler out on his own for about 5 issues, then a 3 issue Storm story, followed by a 4 issue Iceman, etc. Sure, there can even be a second x-character in the "solo" stories from time to time, but this would be a great way to spotlight a lot of different characters. It could have a nice long run and you could even feature Wolverine from time to time if you want.

FINALLY!

Claremont was a god where words were concerned; whether he still is...well I'll pick it up and make my judgement then

the story actually makes sense. kurt comes back and everything is different so he kind of goes off on his own adventure to figure things out

Ha, so Wolverine is in this series? Surprise!

Yet it's Chris Claremont and I always liked Nightcrawler, so I'm givivng it a chance.

Claremont. Nightcrawler. Wolverine. Camaraderie. Nostalgia. Beer.

Did I say Claremont?

I am so in for this.

This.

Another book I can look forward to in April (next to Elektra's).

Oh, man... What if all this elaborate setup and fanservice (Peter returning, a bunch of books with him in them, a new Hulk book, now a Nightcrawler ongoing) what if it's all an elaborate April Fools joke, and come April First Marvel's going to say "NOPE. GOTCHA."?

Damn looks like I'm gonna be broke this April. Wally West, Pete's return, then now this. :o

I know it is cute and funny when a character dies to say...oh they will be back soon. Some deaths have so much value. Leave them dead.

Awesome I love Nightcrawler. I hope this book turns out well but chances are I'm going to have to wait for the trade :(

Wonder why Puck and Rogue are on the cover though...

Same. The surprise and disappointment about Wolverine is really weird to me, it's like they've never read an X-Men book with the two of them in it before.

Wait?! That's what "BAMF!" meant? Shocking!!!

I'm glad he's got his sword again.

I love Nightcrawler and can't wait for this, but seriously Wolverine, don't you have a school to run or something?

To be fair, there was a strong argument that BAMF was about Ultimate Nick Fury getting an ongoing.

@jonsmith: Are you being serious? (Can't tell...) What's the strong argument?

I know it's sad for me to say this but... That would be pretty funny.

I was kidding, the joke being that BAMF can also stand for 'Bada** Motherf***er', and Ultimate Nick Fury is Samuel L. Jackson, THE bada** motherf***er.

Indeed. It's one of the few extraneous titles wherein Wolverine actually belongs in a non forced fashion and without question.

Question his place in regular Avengers titles if you must. Question his prominence in one too many X-Books as well. Heck, you can question his need for two on going titles and various minis and I really wouldn't bat an eye. I might even agree on a few points.

But with regards Kurt's return, and penned by Claremont no less, Logan should totally be part of the series without question.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More Nightcrawler is never a bad thing. If this is half as good as Amazing X-Men I'll be happy to have it.

I just hope Claremont's writing ability hasn't faded over the years like (gulp) Frank Miller's...

Posted by fodigg

I would actually love for him to become an ongoing character again without actually coming back from the dead. Like an "agent of heaven" style return where he's a swashbuckling pseudo-ghost.

Posted by fodigg

he ruined Exiles to the point of cancellation and not even a relaunch and a new writer could get people back on board....his X-men run may be a classic but everything since then has been garbage

Yeah, still haven't forgiven him for this.

Chris Claremont and Nightcrawler FTW!

Man never was a big Nightcrawler fan but is it just me or are those pics of him near the end awesome?

I am getting this on Friday. So glad that Marvel is giving Nightcrawler another shot. The art looks great anyone know what else he has done?
