New Venom Update

More information about the government controlled Venom has been released.

 Tony Moore Venom concept art.
Who is the new Venom? That's a question we've been asking since last week. The next day, it was announced that Venom would be getting a new look and a new series in March. The Venom news continues as even more information has been released.

This clearly will not be the same Venom we've seen before. That's a good thing. It might be hard for long time/die hard Venom fans to accept but change can be a good thing from time to time. I don't want to see another character do the same old Venom shenanigans like Mac Gargan did. I'm really curious to see where this goes. If it doesn't work out, we all know things will change back eventually. I'm definitely ready to see something different done with Venom.

Writer Rick Remender has revealed some of those different things. The new Venom is a black ops agent who will be "chasing a trail across the globe to uncover the man behind a plot to sell the world's dictators and terrorists weaponized [something], all while juggling a double life, and a growing addiction to a symbiote that is constantly trying to take him over."

This sure won't be the same Venom we all know.
 == TEASER ==
The story of the new Venom begins in Amazing Spider-Man #654.1 and continues into Venom #1. Remender also said the tone would be "the same brand of ferocious hardcore violence" Venom fans would expect and there will be a Bourne Identity feel to it. The new Venom will be traveling the world of the Marvel Universe and will journey to ares such as Eastern European war zones and the Savage Land.

This new Venom will only be able to wear the suit a few days at a time. It's mentioned that this new host is supposed to be Venom for a short period of time, for his own safety. What do you think the chances of that happening will be?

There will be some tiny elements of Spider-Man here as the host in Project Venom is keeping his new assignment and black ops missions secret from his family and loved ones. He's also going to be experiencing depression when separated from the suit.

It may not be the Venom we all know but I like this new take. I'm still leaning towards John Jameson wearing the suit (with Flash Thompson a close second). We'll have to wait until February or March to find out.

I'm excited to see what they do with venom. I think this has the potential to create some good stories.

I hope it's someone new, government denial operations style.  Something even Rogers doesn't know about.  Someone said it might be USAgent and to be honest, I hope it's someone more right wing and willing to kill.  Black ops, wet team style Venom?  Yes please, I'll be picking this up!

How long before the writers give into temptation and have a Carnage tie in? Place your bets!

I haven't followed Venom in quite a while so forgive me when I ask why (within the bounds of the story world) does Venom still have a spider emblem on his chest?

Sounds very much like Haunt to me.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I'm really liking this concept. The more news I hear the more I get into it. I'm not really a spider man fan or a venom fan but this new take on him is downright awesome. Plus i'm loving the redesigned suit even if he doesn't really need a flak jacket..

@satanmode:  Venom was a member of the Dark Avengers and palyed the role of a 'sinister Spider-Man'. For that reason there was a spider emblem on his chest

As long as this is done correctly, we have some serious potential here. Looking forward to this one.

Too much haunt
I got introduced to spider-man/whole marvel by playing that psx game so I loved Venom,(shouldve seen my face when I discovered I could play as venom in ultimate spider-man.
I loved that he was a big muscled crazy alien who whould chase spider-man and have crazy fights inbetween.
So im kinda dissapointed with him being a regular-sized guy chasing terrorists.
But you never know, I felt the same when they annoucned Carnage would be a female but when I saw the art in that book+who would become the female I was so excited.

I'm looking forward to this because of its different approach to Venom. I think it's pretty interesting seeing Venom in this role. But I wouldn't mind if somewhere down the line it becomes some struggle to wear the costume and the character has to try to stop from transforming into classic Venom

I'd say the spider-emblem is there out of love. Peter was the suit's first true love. I think it will always keep it. Now it's a love/hate relationship.

Yes. I wondered about that since day-one with Venom. They symbiote amplifies the abilities and powers of the host, so why would Eddie Brock have Spider-Man's powers? Because the symbiote was still 'attached' to Peter Parker.

I think this is really exciting. Venom as a black op agent sounds like it could be a really interesting story, not mention the potential recipients for the symbiote.  John Jameson would be really cool, but Flash Thompson would probably be more interesting because he's hiding the fact that he's doing all this from his family/friends. Plus it would be harder for Flash to give up being able to walk and being a super-human than it would be for John.  Either way I think this book has got great potential and I can't wait to pick it up.

sounds like this could either be really good, or incredibly stupid. I kinda liked it when Gargan became more old-school Venom-like, showed that the influence of the suit is pretty damn strong.

I'll see how this goes.

While it's not the old venom, the black ops agent approach will certainly be interesting.

Venom... as a BLACK OPS AGENT?!?

Looks like Marvel's starting to run out of good ideas...  =/

iTS fRANK cASTLE

Its the Venom Core. We only think its the same guy wearing the suit everytime. The government has an entire army of people who will only wear the suit for the mission they are assigned. This lowers the chance of addiction and bonding to the suit. Of course constantly changing hosts drives the suit insane and thats when the real story starts.... ah well it was an interesting thought.

I like the black ops angle and it will be interesting to see how long they can keep the host body from craving the suit permenently, whoever it is in there.

Is it 100% certainty that it will be a man that will don the symbiote, the flak jacket (and such) is often used to hide the fact that the mystery person is a women

I hope its Flash

Posted by Bloodstonefreak

Is it just me or is Rick Remender Marvel's scapegoat in terms of drastically changing things without it being in the Ultimate Universe?

Posted by darkcloakx

i hope its a new person that nobody would expect.

Can't wait for this I hope this isn't a big let down
Posted by sonoftheweb

this is almost like a new anti-venom eccept more B.A.

@Green ankh:
thats who i was guessing too. It would make sense since he seems so against using super powers to fight crime, so of course he would hide it, and he would be a good choice to believe he could control the temptations. I dont think it will be him tho

It might crash but I'd much rather see this than another simple Venom-clone. As I mentioned, if it doesn't go well, I'm sure we'll see a more familiar Venom later.

I def agree, this angle makes for at least 3 to 4 easy arc's of good espionage action.  Is the character host going to be a new character or someone we know?
Posted by Sammo21

You know, I think I'm leaning more on Flash Thompson myself.  The depression out of the suit could come from not being able to walk with out it...but being crippled in the MARVEL universe is ridiculous enough by itself.

At first I was against this cause for me Eddie Brock is the only true Venom. But if he's not gonna be anything like Mac Gargan was as Venom. I'll give this a shot. :)

Bourne identity with alien steroid addiction, what is the world coming too :P

As a long-time Venom fan, I like this new direction.  I still want to see great things from Eddie Brock and Mac Gargan, though.  I liked 'em both, and I look forward to seeing if this new Venom cuts the mustard as well.

First off, the symbiote has the same capabilities as a parasite, and the government using this symbiote for their own somewhat special weapon kinda has me convinced that Marvel has once again came out with an idea with no support.

Change is good, but so far Marvel has lacked to properly define change without causing a serious cast disappointed fans and letdowns, it's what you expect from a company thats run by a man who's more focused on the movie franchise.

What made Venom famous from the very start was the added touch of Mcfarlane's artwork which introduced something sinister, monsterous, vigilante, and far different from the everyday Spiderman fans grew attached too. Venom was a character that had no meaning nor moral values, just Spawn-like artwork that haunted Spiderman, and that was the reason why the Venom fanbase grew.
When seeing Venom go "WE LOVE BRAAAAAAAAAAAIIINS, SWEET TASTY BRAINS", that's the type of Venom character Marvel has lacked to keep and fully understand.

I think this venom could be pretty interesting. I think he will do better then mac.

Wow?! This idea sounds so awesome?! Like totally groundbreaking and a bold new direction for the character! I mean who would've thought of...oh wait *runs to stack of comics* Oh yeah, I read this last week, when it was called HAUNT!!!

@MTHarman:
Nail on the head, folk.
Posted by Violet-Eyed Dragon

this sounds awful.  the symbiote is evil--no one should use it unless they plan on going to the dark side.

yeah right lets see how that lasts

Posted by darksoul7th

I liked the other Venom better ! This one isn't the same!

Posted by MuadDiab

Well I trust Rick Remender so I'll hold any judgment until I read the book. It's gotta be John Jameson though, any one else seems stupid after all that info about government and black ops. Wasn't it John's shuttle that brought the symbiote in the first place?

Posted by Hit_Monkey

I rather like this concept, it's a diffrent direction to take so yeah i'm gonna check it out.

It honestly sounds quite good. I look forward to a strong series.

Looking forward to this story quite a bit, but not so much the leathery outfit... :(

this seems like a fresh start for the character i approve

@MuadDiab:
His lack of regard for logic and continuity on Uncanny X-Force has me concerned about both that title and this one. Hope this works out for the best. And seriously people, READ HAUNT. It's this story, Kirkman/McFarlane should sue like a mo' flusher.
