New Scooby-Doo Live Action Movie Tells Origin

Just how did the gang get together?

No Caption Provided

There's going to be a new live-action Scooby-Doo movie.  The live-action/CGI film Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins available on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def Combo Pack on September 22, 2009 from Warner Home Video.  The live-action cast features Robbie Amell (Life With Derek, True Jackson) as Fred along with Kate Melton as Daphne, Hayley Kiyoko as Velma and Nick Palatas as Shaggy. Frank Welker, a member of the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! voice-cast, provides the voice of Scooby-Doo.

Now clearly this isn't going to be for everyone.  I can hear the grumbling already.  I'll admit I have seen the first two movies (my daughter loves Scooby-Doo).  While they weren't on the same level as the cartoon, it was a nice attempt.  With a new cast, it will be interesting to see how it compares.  What is the angle of this movie?  It will give us the back story on the gang and how they joined forces together in a "never-before-told" tale.

Extras include:
  • Coolsville Yearbook - The actors who play Fred, Velma, Daphne and Shaggy reveal even more of their character’s back-story including what they do in their spare time, their favorite foods, what they want to do when they grow up, and a secret time capsule message for the future that can be solved by finding clues hidden within the DVD enhanced content.
  • Velma, Daphne, Fred or Shaggy?  Personality Quiz - Are you a brain, a drama queen, a jock or a loveable nerd?  By navigating a series of questions, you can decide which member of the Mystery Inc. gang you are most like.
  • Character Pop Up Factoid Track - Velma gives scientific and trivia factoids, Daphne gives stylish and dramatic interpretations, Fred flexes his muscles and Shaggy, well everything reminds Shaggy of food. Available on Blu-Ray™ Hi-Def only.
  • Extras – Behind-the-Scenes, Shout-Outs and Out-Takes.

If you're a Scooby fan, it might be worth checking out.  I do have to say it seems a little weird that Fred's hair is so dark.  I wonder if Scooby will look any different from the first two films.

File this under "Lame-O".  Yup, grumbling already.    Rur-Ro, Raggy Ris Rooks Rupid. Nice Capt. Marvel/Shazam lightning bolt T-shirt, Shaggy.   That last picture--wow--great acting.

Once again, the common theme of not paying attention to the characters.  The directing team has, I assume, actually seen at least one group photo of the Scooby Doo gang?  How then do you explain Fred?  Dark hair?  No Ascot??  Cue the grumbling, and skip this one.

i never liked Scooby Doo. Even as a kid i found very little/no enjoyment in the cartoons. the films were worse and this looks even worse still. Not bothered if the characters don't look spot on as i think change is good from comic to film. like what colour Fred's hair is for example. Couldn't cair less so long as its not a bright green mohalk or somthing.

Either way, this looks chuffing awful. definatly one to miss. Although i'm sure young kids will love it.

Nice. And we'll learn just exactly why Scooby and Shaggy have the munchies all the time. My bet is copious amounts of weed.

IMO the only thing that made the previous movies work was the great cast.

I've never even heard of the guys in this. The fact that only the Fred actor even gets one of those "This actor also appeared in this movie" things shows how unknown these dudes are.

The first two were cheesey in a good way. This one looks cheesey in a very very bad way.

Think I'll check it out, just to see if it's good enough for my kids to watch of course, lol
Seriously I like Scooby and can make adjustments for movie makeovers.
Don't think it's a remake o a remake, just a prequill.
Freds hair must have lightend as he got older, lol
ps.  the looks on their faces in the last pic was perfect.
just wish they showed Scooby

Why don't they have a live action Scooby Doo film take place in the late 60s early 70s like the cartoon? That would be so cool.

While I'm not in love with this idea, I do think this looks better than the two theatre movies. But you cannot tell me thats Fred. That is not Fred.

I showed this to my daughter and she seemed confused.  She knows that they've met as little kids and not high school (from the "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" cartoon).  As for Fred, she said maybe he dyed his hair or was wearing a wig.

That girl playing velma would be perfect for Gert in the Runaways movie...

I recently saw this. Terrible! terrible! don't see it! it sort of stuffs the actual shows under the rug and intereduces the characters in a differnt light. I don't like the look and I asspesshelly don't like the Fred. They say that they will now make two more of this series, since it was "So popular" (their words, not mine). it felt like an animated movie, but more so. It was sooo cheesy that the actual shows and movies looked life-like compared to them.
