New Futurama Episodes At Comedy Central?

Could our wish be about to come true?

I've probably mentioned before that I really loved Futurama.  The show had so much potential.  It was set up where they could even spoof different events in way that made it easier than it is for the Simpsons.  Futurama, in my opinion, just got jerked around at Fox, especially with the scheduling and all the times it was preempted because of football or baseball games.  The direct-to-dvd movies have been pretty good.  The last one, for me, was a little bit of a downer since it was the final one.

All that may be changing.  According to Collider, an inside source at Comedy Central allegedly revealed that they have ordered a 13 episode run for the show.  Production offices have opened and casting is about to begin.

Could this be true?  There has not been an official word so far.  Billy West did address the possibility of more episodes back in February.  Let's cross our fingers and toes and whatever and hope that someone has the common sense to make this actually happen.  I need more Futurama episodes.

What do you think?  Should the show come back?  Can the new episodes be successful at Comedy Central?  Will all the regular characters (voice actors) return?  Will there finally be some justice in this cruel world that caused the show to be canceled in the first place?

UPDATE

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox plans on producing 26 new episodes!  Comedy Central will begin airing new episodes in mid-2010.  The network has obtained the rights to all 72 episodes along with the DVD episodes.  Apparently Fox still has an option to license the new episodes to network television (like FOX).  If that happens, Comedy Central's fee to air them will be reduced.  Comedy Central is happy with either of these options.  So in the words of Homer Simpson, "Woo hoo!"
