New Doctor Who Companion Announced

Who will be the new companion for the new Doctor?

This is three days in a row that I've had Doctor Who news.  Doctor Who Online has announced the new companion for the new Doctor (Matt Smith).  Of course the companion is female.   Twenty-one year old actress Karen Gillan will be the next passenger in the TARDIS in spring 2010.

Lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat said:

We saw some amazing actresses for this part, but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too.

What do you think?  Does she seem like a typical "companion"?  Apparently the actress had a small role in "The Fires Of Pompeii" episode.  Has anyone seen her in anything else?  Apparently she's a bit of an unknown.  I guess that could be a good thing.

Hmm. I quite liked the idea of Michelle Ryan who was in the Planet of the Dead one off episode as the new companion, although to be honest I knew it wouldn't be her. I hope she's a recurring character though

I fink it's good that we're going to see someone a lot more new on the scene (companion and doctor), be a bit different, I just hoping that they dont milk the daleks so much this time, i know they're like the biggest enemy but can't we have something a bit differennt this time and not have ever major plot oriented by the daleks please?

I agree. Isn't the guy 24? He's on a major international television show at 24? I was a freelance wedding editor back then.... How do I get famous?

Hm....She looks very Catherine Tate/Donna Noble - esque doesn't she?

She looks interesting, A good, young companion is probably a good thing

Will she be using her Scottish accent on the show? - do you think?

But I posted in the news.  Some people e-mail me or pm me stuff to go on the news page.  Posting on the boards is great but it can get buried.  Some people only look to at the news page and rarely go to the boards.  I'm just trying to inform everyone.

I think I just cant stand the idea of David going so anyone who replaces him is going to annoy me :-P

And agreed, I love Donna as I could relate to her. She had appeal but warmth and heart... I did love Rose though Martha I was not a big fan

How can someone "HATE" the new Doctor when he hasn't even appeared as the Doctor yet :p

Can't say I care for the new girl.  It took me the best part of four years to warm to Rose.  I have nothing in common with waifish little girls.  Martha & Donna were great, and I was really sad to see them go after only one year.
