New Creative Team Headed to BATGIRL

Can we just be happy Gail Simone is no longer going to be writing. I have nothing against her & love some of her other work, but if there was one change I was actually on board for when the new 52 started it was Barbara being Batgirl again, but I had to drop the book after like issue 12 or 13. Let's hope this team does a good job, & that art though.

A Batgirl tittle where she's not beat up emotionally or phisically in evry issue by Simone. Count me IN!

After seeing this I am SO glad I don't read Batgirl. Pretty sure I'd be pissed if I was a fan...

Carol Danver's costume change from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel got a lot of hate, but I'm noticing Batgirl's new costume looks a lot like it; practical, modest, and mildly military. Looks like this kind of costume design is a thing now, and i love it!

I won't say this doesn't feel more like the premise of a Stephanie Brown book because it really does... but damn does it sound (and look) great.

Like the new costume, the armor just seemed a bit much. Though it seems Barbara is going to have some years shaved off her age.

Well, I myself have never read Batgirl. But I was under the impression the only reason it was selling was because it had Simone's name attached to it. Wasn't there that story of how DC fired her then the fans raged until she was rehired? Was that all just some weird propaganda? Anyway, if that is true, this series probably won't last much longer. And Batwoman lost a lot of readers when its creative team was fired apparently so it's probably not got too much longer either. But then again, Catwoman continued for so long under Nocenti. But they really don't need three different female Bat-family characters to all have their own monthly series. They should cancel them all and do either a new take on Gotham City Sirens without the part where the main characters are villains, or some sort of Batman Family Showcase title.

while I do agree with some people who have stated this is more like Stephanie Brown, I do like the idea of a lighter title.

@lagozzino: everyone in the 52 is younger than what they where in the pre52 so shes most likely in her early to mid 20s which means joker shot her when she was in her late teens maybe early 20s

For me the real question is where does Alex Garner go from here? I haven't been reading Batgirl but I've been eagerly awaiting his covers month after month. IMO he is the best cover artist around.

@kilowog52: That did happen. She was fired and rehired the same week. Maybe DC is hoping to get younger readers. But if that's the case maybe they should have made a new book. I didn't know Batwoman was selling bad. That's another title I dropped when the creative changed.

Up until Superman #32 I haven't followed anything Superman, so no lol.

@thatguywithheadphones: The comics is just changing with the times. If they didnt not modernize these characters they would go the way of the Spirit, Dick Tracy, and so on. I do agree with your point though. Its seems like comics books are now starting to turn into tv shows like New Girl, The Mandy Show, and Community. I actually like the costume but my problem with the look of it is that it seems like a downgrade from the current suit. This suit looks like something she would have worn before she got the current suit. Also the way she is drawn makes this book look more like a prequel to current Batgirl.

Like the idea of another lighthearted book in DC's stable, they need one. This should be Steph though.

Yeah, Batwoman's sales have nosedived ever since Williams and Blackman threw their hissyfit and left the series without even finishing the then-current story arc. Its a real shame that the next creative team was saddled with that negativity, because I think Marc Andreyko is doing just as good, if not better than the last team. If you only stopped reading because of the negativity surrounding the change in personnel, then I'd really recommend reading it again.

*waves* Bye Alysia, I'll miss you, I hope there are hot redheads in DC Limbo because we'll never ever see you again with Simone off the book and Barbara moving away. Still nice to see that whenever DC takes a step forward they're still so totally willing to chop off the leg that took it.

@joygirl: looks like someone didn't read the MTV article. Stewart specifically addresses the question about Alysia and other elements from Gail's run. She's still going to be a part of Babs' life.

The costume itself is good, but the context of that picture worries me.

So are they deaging batgirl or this some sort of a prequel story? Last time i checked Barbara was in her mid to early 20s at least.

So is she going to be younger on this series ? Because she was 19-21 in her solo series.

@lagozzino: I did stop due to the creative change. The arc the previous team left on was their last arc. They were contracted to write a certain book, and at the last minute DC forced changes. Same thing happened with Andy Diggle, and with the writer of Green Lantern Corp. Honestly the only reason I did read Batwoman was for the art style and storyline going on through the run.

With Batgirl though, I'm curious to see how long this will last. It looks like they are going to make it a book for young adults or teens.
