New Creative Team for THE FLASH Announced plus the Return of Wally West!

Robert Venditti, Van Jensen and Brett Booth are answering many fans' wishes.

Ever since Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul announced they were leaving THE FLASH and moving on to DETECTIVE COMICS, we've been wondering who the new creative team would be. Christos Gage took on one issue and Buccellato will be returning for three.

Today, DC has announced the new creative team of Robert Venditti and Van Jensen with art by Brett Booth starting in April's THE FLASH #30.

That is all super exciting news in itself. But it actually gets better.

THE FLASH #30 is on sale April 23 but one week later, in THE FLASH ANNUAL #3, we'll see the reintroduction of Wally West into the New 52.

Crazy.

They aren't gonna push Barry aside, at least not for more than a few months, he has a TV show coming up and he'll probably be Flash in the JL movie, DC would have to be majorly stupid to make Wally the main Flash again when all that other media stuff for Barry is coming up.

@fallschirmjager: You're right. Peter holds a furnace to Wally. (Please Wally/DC fans don't come after me, I just couldn't resists saying that. I like Wally too)

Posted by Dernman

I like Wally but I'm not thrilled.

@arturocalakayvee: I cannot think positively i got that feeling that Barry is gonna be pushed aside to let Wally have the spotlight wich annoys me. And look at the picture, it looks like he has been watching Barry his costume looks a lot like cobalt blue

Barry is just about to get a TV show

Posted by Smart_Dork_Dude

SO MUCH YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH HAPPY DAY OH HAPPY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNEW THERE WAS A REASON THE FLASH IS ONE OF THE FEW NEW 52 BOOKS I ACTUALLY LIKED!!!!

Posted by The_Comebacks

That all looks awesome! The art is gorgeous. I hope they play up the father son relationship between Barry and Wally.

Posted by KLspiderflash11

I am over the moon excited for this news. That is n extremely talented creative team. Brett Booth's art is incredible and more Hal and Barry!!!!

Edited by GraniteSoldier

Sounds awesome, not going to read it myself, but I'm happy for those Wally fans out there.

I kind of dig that blue-black costume though.

Posted by TheFirstLantern

I dig it. Lets see how things roll out though. I like Brett Booth's Art.

Edited by Psycho_Soldier

ugh more and more Booth art and covers???

Posted by PeppeyHare

I don't get why people are worried about Barry. He's still in Justice League, is getting his own tv show, and is still gonna be one of the biggest characters in the DCNU.

Posted by mak13131313

This is awesome! Wally's return and a great creative team!

Edited by SmashBrawler

@arturocalakayvee: Wonky anatomy, overuse of lines, terrible faces... yeah, not a fan. Also, that cover looks kinda lazy to me, Wally (?) there has almost the exact same pose Barry's got in the other cover.

Posted by ganthet2814

This is cool. Wally West coming back. Good. I don't understand why the big love of the Wally West Flash. But still cool.

Edited by saoakden

So Wally is coming back in the 3rd annual? Cool, I take it he's going to be in the fancy blue costume?

Posted by TehStranger

Not a fan of the blue costume, but I hope the comic is good.

Posted by SmashBrawler

@the_tree: Right, let's hope they brought back Wally because they actually want to use the character, not because they want to give Barry his own Scarlet Spider or something dumb like that. Overdone design aside, I do like the use of blue and black though.

Posted by modunhanul

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES, Wally!

I love the cover, by the way.

Edited by dbatdog

Nice! This is much better news than peter parker returning :)

Posted by The_Tree

@smashbrawler: Yeah. I like the blue and black as well, though I was kind of hoping Wally's new costume would be more similar to Hot Pursuit, but without the helmet and police lights. The busyness of the design is likely because of Booth, since the dude doesn't know how to draw a Flash character without them spewing electricity. It'll probably look better when drawn by somebody else. I just hope he doesn't stick around for too long. I have nothing against the guy, but he always hops onto books I was enjoying and makes them an eyesore.

I wonder which DC character Robert Vendetti plans on writing next. First GL, now Flash. Who's next? On a side note, I want a GL/Flash book. I wonder if Wally will get his own title or if it will be like GL or GLC where he shares the spotlight with Barry.

Edited by mysoulz

Feels good to see one of my favorite DC characters returning!!!

Holy crap thank you! That picture is absolutely gorgeous....

Now I'm curious if THAT'S Wally West and that he's like The Flash from the future or something.

doubt it odds are his the kid tagging the the wall im thinking that IF he does have speed powers then his would be pretty close to his dads

Posted by tigerkaya

YES!!! Wally is back now he can beat the hell out of that sanctimonious, hypocrite Allen to a bloody pulp for creating this sham of a New 52 garbage.

So what is going to happen to Barry Allen ?

I hope they do like what they did with GL in a way, have Barry be the official "Flash of the JL" and Wally replacing him as protector of Central City. etc

I hope he looks different then Barry honestly.

Posted by Dredeuced

I really, really dislike Vendetti's GL run and I've never been a fan of Booth (atleast give him a different colorist or something).

I don't get why they just toss Wally back after Manabooch's run when they were the ones fighting to actually try to include him, and now with a worse creative team they're bringing Wally back. I assume it's gonna be some time/universe travel shenanigans and not just Wally as Iris' nephew in the main universe.

If that's not the case and they're just reintroducing Wally as a kid and as Iris nephew then they're also gonna have to rebuild the entire relationship. Originally in The Flash series, Wally came into the story as very close to Iris, and if he's Daniel's kid, Iris almost certainly has no idea he exists as of now.

There's quite a lot to speculate on, and even more to raise a perturbed eyebrow over, but atleast DC is finally recognizing one of the best characters they ever made, despite having the gall to throw him away.

Shit just got real. Is this real life?

In other news flash comics all cross the world have increased in sales XDXD

Edited by Pokeysteve

I'm excited but cautious.

I actually really like Brett Booth's art. He isn't my favorite but I think he could be a really good fit for The Flash. In any case, I'm pretty excited about this news even though I don't have much of a connection to Wally. Started reading comics around the start of the New 52 so Barry is my Flash.

Posted by scouts1998

I read the previous creative team, but i'm going to trade wait from now on.

Edited by Teerack

I don't like that he dresses pretty much the same as Barry still -_-

Posted by PeppeyHare

@dredeuced: did they really? I thought I remembered hearing that the last team didn't have any interest in Wally.

They could give Wally Keystone and let Barry at Central City

Posted by timelord

So Wally West and Stephine Brown are both coming back who's next Donna Troy or Cassandra Cain?

Edited by SilverPool

Damn, the suit looks awesome. I hope he becomes a different persona other than Flash though, I really don't want Barry Allen to just get shoved out of the way for Wally. I like both of them a lot and wouldn't like to see that.

@yourneighborhoodcomicgeek: You haven't been reading Buccellato/Manapul's run!?

This would be the greatest.

THIS.

It is a good month for complaining fans. First, Parker is confirmed to return, just in time for the movie, what a shocker. Now, Wally West returns in April as well. All that is left is Richard Rider.

BACK ON SUBJECT:

I always preferred Wally West but I find it odd he did return so soon. I remember hearing he was suppose to be gone for the longest.

Anyways, I like the possible new blue suit. It is wishful thinking, but I'd love it if my imagination comes true and West gets his own new identity, like Flashback, feel free to take it DC.

Yeah, something like that could work too. I wonder who will be faster lol this time around.

YAY! WALLY! and now we can all move on to arguing over Dona Troy and Cassi (after which we will move onto the other not-yet-appearing characters).
Gonna miss the Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul creative team. They made me give a damn about Barry despite my favouret flashes being Wally and Jay and The artwork was stunning (that's deffinantly something im going to miss as i'm not the biggest Brett Booth fan, as his characters always seem squished to me).

Posted by Dredeuced

@dredeuced: did they really? I thought I remembered hearing that the last team didn't have any interest in Wally.

Manapul and Booch tried very, very hard to include Wally in their story. They threw multiple pitches at Didio and tried to sneak a cameo of him in the background of early art drafts and editorial brought the boot down.

Here's Manapul talking about it:

Clicky

Which is why it confuses me that they're bringing Wally back as soon as Manabooch are off the Flash.

I had a feeling Wally was coming back because of JL3000 (The clone is very VERY clearly a clone of Wally and not Barry, he even has the same limitation Wally had as kid Flash for years, lol), I just don't understand this whole process or if DC's honest to goodness reason was "We gotta wait a couple years and we might as well do it with a new creative team," which I question because of Didio's lack of candor about it

Edited by GrumpyBear74

So happy to finally know who is taking over this title now that booch and francis are on detective. I for one like Brett Booth's art, not as unique as francis and his amazing work but very "high superhero" style.

I haven't read very much of Wally as the Flash. (I just started reading again last year and hadn't read the Flash before other than some DC collected digest things my grandma got me around 82) I recently picked up some scattered Mark Waid back issues and they were very interesting (Dark Flash, Terminal Velocity). They had me consulting the Wiki left and right figuring out who the hell all these other speedsters were.

I wonder how they will work Wally into the New 52? I for one would read two Flash books, say one main flash one and another "Family Flash" book with all the different speedsters from different worlds and timelines.

I can't wait for April now to see this team get started as well as Boochipaul on Detective.

Way I see it: Iris' brother Daniel, the current Reverse-Flash, has a kid (Wally) and, due to Daniel's being in prison, Wally is given over to Iris' protection. Wally gets his powers from some sort of accident. Or, because of Daniel's connection to the speed force, Wally, an ancestor of Daniel, also has a connection to the speed force and uses it to travel back in time.

Daniel was in prison for an extended period of time before he became the reverse Flash. If you'll remember that's originally why Iris was trying to buddy up to Barry (trying to absolve her brother) and why Barry turned her down. So it's doubtful that Daniel had custody of Wally in the first place, if Wally will even be introduced as a kid.

@arturocalakayvee: I know Black Manta mentioned Tempest in Aquaman #14.

Wow! I can't wait to see how they handle Wally. I am really excited by this though I hope they don't push Barry aside. Barry Allen is my favorite Flash and I believe he is THE Flash. Also maybe this also means we could be seeing Donna Troy. I miss Donna.
