New Captain America: Super Soldier and Thor: God of Thunder Screenshots

How are the Cap and Thor games looking with release dates fast approaching?

With their theatrical release date right around the corner and new movie posters being shown off, SEGA wanted to make sure we didn’t forget that they have corresponding video games coming out to go along with these summer blockbuster comic book movies.

Both Thor: God of Thunder and Captain America: Super Soldier will officially be available three days before their respective movies with Thor coming out May 3, 2011, and Captain America coming out July 19, 2011. Both games will also be available on Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and in stereoscopic 3D for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Speaking of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, let’s take a look at some of the new screenshots for both games.

   This is gonna hurt.

If Cap is going to be like Wolverine I'll get it. Thor I'll just wait and see.

I'm probably going to get them regardless. Super solider looks like Arkham Asylum a bit and God of Thunder looks like Darksiders or God of War. Either way, I'm down for whatever.

Seen the trailers and the graphics look out-dated and so does the gamplay, why do Marvel have a license still with Sega?! ¬¬

Both trailers for these games don't look very good. Why do movie and superhero related games usually fail?

@Lvenger: Movie related video games usually fail because it takes 2-3 years to put out a great game, sometimes longer for a AAA title. Video game companies though are usually rushed from the moment they get the idea/script for a movie related game in order for it to pushed out in time for the movie's release. On average, game companies have a year to put out something that takes two to three times the amount of time normally. And this isn't Madden where you can just stick a new athlete on the cover and be done with it. This is why glitches pop up more often and graphics typical suffer because game companies can't put as much polish and test for as long as they normally would. There are exceptions to this however and could be fixed if movie companies would get their act together sooner if they want a corresponding video game.

@StrongProtector:  Yeah the rushing thing makes sense because the developer hasn't had as long a time to familarise themselves with the film as the director or the rest of the film team. And there is a big rush in the race to get the movie game out before the film comes out to sell more merchandise hyping up the film. And because of that they don't pay as much attention to quality as say Assasin's Creed or Batman Arkham Asylum. Which brings me onto my next point. After the epic success of Batman Arkham Asylum I would've thought that superhero games would've upped their game to match this success. But no it's just another traditional beat em up like every other superhero game. I really thought the Thor and Captain America games would be better than this. Now it just remains to be seen what the Green Lantern game will be like. Although I'll only be buying some cheap but good 360 games this year in order to save up money for Arkham City

Yeah, these games will suck, Iron Man sucked, Iron Man 2 sucked, Avatar the game sucked...you get my meaning.
However, if Giant Bomb or Angry Joe (on TGWTG.com) gives Thor a good review, I'll definately buy it then. Captain America on the other hand...not so much.

The Cap game has a decent developer behind it while the Thor game does not. Let's see how the reviews turn out.

bingo. I have yet to find a movie that made a genuinely good game. Not many good game to movie adaptations either.

Though the real problem here is that the Thor game was made by a Liquid Entertainment, whose trackrecord hasn't been so great so far, including awful Desperate Housewives videogames,  while Captain's game is being made by Next Level Games, best known for their recent Punch Out! and a lot of pretty good games.

I'm only feeling Captain America's game so far. Looks decent and fun, like all games (or comics & movies) should. (hey, "entertainment"!!)
Thor seems pretty generic...

@Eyz:  Wow I didn't know next level games was doing it, they have never done anything like this before to my knowledge anyway! I know they did the mario strikers games, punch out and one of the old NHL games, this had me a lot more intrigued just to see if they can pull it off.

And I just discovered yesterday that the Wii Thor game is in better hands than the next gen version.
http://eyzmaster.blogspot.com/2011/03/gamin-news-thor-wii-screens.html
It is being made by Red Fly Studios responsible for the recent Wii Ghostbusters game (which...wasn't that bad, if just different from the other versions)
Unlike the PS3/360 Thor game by Liquid Entertainment (who made several bad games, including Desperate Housewives ones),...
Check my link above to see its comic book inspired setting!

I'm looking forward to the Captain America game. Its more so a movie Tie-In then a movie game being writen away from the movie's story and is writen by a Captain America writer. The Hulk 2003 and Punisher 2005 games were very fun and had very little to do with the actual movies (neither movie that bad in my opinion). And games like The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man 1 2 and 3 were fun, especially when they diverged from the actual movie story. I'm on a bit of a WWII/Cap/WWII Cap sway right now because of the Cap game. Thor is... meh for me. I'll wait for the reviews and if it gets at least an average, I'll get it. For now the only game staring a god for me is Okami.
