Movie Rights To Zenescope's 'Pied Piper' Obtained

The rendition of the classic tale may get a film adaptation!

While most comic movies are action packed, this one seems to be channeling a very different genre. It was announced earlier this week in EMPIRE magazine that the rights to Zenescope's 'Pied Piper' has been picked up by Persistent Entertainment. Zenescope's Pied Piper is a comic book adaptation of a story that has itself been adapted several times, and whose traditional roots stem from as early as the 14th Century in Europe.  While the character is not generally associated with the horror genre, the roots of the story can certainly be found there.

However, it is not the traditional tale of the Pied Piper that we will likely be seeing as a film, but a twist on the classic tale. The comic book version of the tale follows Sean, a boy who is constantly bullied at school. Sean finds a book which unleashes the Piper, and the boy obtains his retribution on those who have caused him suffering through the power of the Piper. Similar to the classic tale, bad things happen when the Piper does not receive payment for his services.

Does the story seem like it would make a good film? Have you read the book, or even the original folk tale?

I have Zenescope's Grimm Fairy Tales but haven't read the Pied Piper books. A Pied Piper movie with Zenescope's twist to it sounds cool.
