More Info on The New 52's Doomsday

Get a better look at the updated design and a little bit of new info on the villain!

Villain Month will hit our wallets extra hard in September and one of the exciting announcements is that Doomsday will get his very own issue. This will be the first time the man who punched Superman really, really, reaaaallllly hard will appear in the post-Flashpoint universe and today DC has offered a better look at his updated character design. If I had to take a guess, I'd say it seems like this version of the character likes to keep trophies.

"But who is Doomsday? In The New 52, the legends surrounding this character have become stories told to terrify Kryptonians. Nobody knows who created him, where he comes from, or even dares to utter his name louder than in a whisper. But are the various myths about what the Doomsday creature is real? Was he really let loose on an army? And if nobody knows the truth behind this villain’s origin, is there really a way to stop him?"

Written by Greg Pak and illustrated by Brett Booth, Doomsday's solo issue will go on sale September 25. Are you going to pick this one up, Viners?

Greg pak is taking over action comics? REALLY? YESH!

Yeah, after Lobdell's brief stint on the title. He's handling Batman/Superman and Action Comics. Should be a good time to be a fan of either.

Batman/superman is on my list of must gets, and now so is action comics :P

Abomination?

Why are they doing Villain Month at all? They just did Faces of Evil in 2009 (and New Year's Evil in 1998). It's like the New 52 is the chance to redo every gimmick event DC has ever done - dusting one off every few months and reselling it to fans. If you're a fan with patience, then wait six months to a year, and these issues will be in the dollar bin (maybe even the quarter bin).

Edited by LordRequiem

So they've changed his back story to be a mystery. Instead of that mad Kryptonian scientist. That's annoying.

This is Doomsday.

I like this one too.

Edited by AmazingWebHead

Looks kinda weird, but cool.

If they increased the size of the head just a little bit I would actually like it.

DC messed up when they rebooted. :/

Can someone please enlighten me, has the death of superman happened in the New 52?

Edited by ssejllenrad

I think the art ruined it. I don't think the design is that bad considering Booth's rendition of the design was awesome.

Yes it did. It was stated back in Swamp Thing #1.

@ssejllenrad: Thank you. Wasn't sure haven't really followed the New 52 outside of the Justice League and the bat-family.

Posted by Tyndall

This joke can t be the Doomsday who trashed Darkside, Superman and Morrisons JLA.. On the other hand, this crap is usual for DC since their reboot. Thats why i don t read their Comics anymore.

Looks ok I guess, not sure about the shoes though...

JESUS CHRIST HE'S HUGE! HIS FISTS ARE THE SIZE OF TANKS!

@ssejllenrad: I like how Booth can draw monster faces better than human ones.

Pak also mentioned in an interview that this story will be written from the perspectives of a girl and her father and how they view Doomsday. It's supposed to be a story about the legends and myths regarding Doomsday,so I expect there to be more than one design,Pak also hinted at this.

I certainly hope so,I've always hated Doomsday(but this story sounds intriguing),out of curiosity what exactly has Pak done that makes you believe he can make a decent character out of Doomsday.

I cannot really say I think design looks cool at all. He looks like a big rock ape.

Oh man, thanks for asking lol :D!

Greg Pak is my favorite writer of all time, i am Huge HULK fan in general, and greg pak wrote on of his best stories, stayed true to the character, and added so much to the hulks mythos. he respected everyone who wrote hulk before, including peter david, bill mantlo, and etc/. he made the hulk a hero, he made banner badass, and he created so many interesting characters such as skaar. and then there was his silver surfer min series which everyone loved. and lets not forget that he wrote incredible hulk 611#, which if, from the first to last page, absolutely amazing and fantastic it includes the best hulk fight ever created ( to me), along with a emotional side to hulks past.

and i've view many of paks interviews, he pays attention to the fans, he says that each character has a fan base one way or the other, so he has to respect them the best he can. and now he is give a chance to start fresh with boring character, he can make him awesome again, and the premise of the story sounds awesome. i don't read much from DC other than morriosn batman inc, and now batman/superman and actions comics will be added to my pull list because paks is going to writer then

hope i helped :P

Yeah I've read his Magneto and Red Skull minis, they were pretty damn good.I thought WWHulk was kinda weak/too much PIS but with huge events like those I guess inconsistency is to be expected.

I appreciate Pak being being respectful to the fanbase and I do like how he gives his interviews(same goes for Matt Kindt),the Doomsday interview is solely the reason why I'm gonna get this.

If you ask me WWH should be more focused on hulk development as a character rather then the devises used if you ask me :P, there were some PIS instances like reed richards being unable to stop hulk with prep time, but in the end it's all for hulks charterer :), besides, his best stories began with the incredible huks series , pak brought back abomination and made him kick ass when he has been treated like a joke for far too long :D, and he had hulk trying to sacrifice himself to Zeus for his family! shows how noble he is ! :D

Me too! the story or the synopsis really interested me and i think from this point on doomsday will be much cooler ^_^, and he is doing one for darkseid too :D

As a HUGE hulk fanboy, i've read everything from Bill Mantol to mark waid ( the current Hulk writer), and i have to say, that even though david and Mantlo were awesome, pak is by far my favorite hulk writer, and no one managed to top his work for me.

if you decide to read it , i can list everything pak had worked on ^__^

That stone beard looks scratchy. I'm guessing Mrs. Doomsday wishes he'd shave every now and then.

But seriously

1. It is WAAAAY too early for Doomsday

2. This looks awful.

That's technically the same Doomsday, but the one that you posted was drawn by someone else just for the cover. The one in the article is for the interior by someone else, I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I am interesting... but it sounds like New 52 is going to change him in order for him to be more intelligent.(He's wearing shoes now!) I liked that he was just a mindless killer.

That's Doomsday? I'd seen the pictures but not the name. I thought they were introducing Batman: TAS Clayface into the new 52, kinda like Harley Quinn.

Maybe in another 6 months they will do 52 sidekicks each with chromium variant covers.

I actually wouldn't mind that, it may be the chance to bring back donna and wally.

Wally took over from Barry and was the flash for nearly twenty years, I thought he was well passed side kick stage?

At this point it doesn't even seem like DC cares about Wally anymore. Sidekick would be a step above where he is now. Don't get me wrong Wally is my favorite Flash, but DC seems to care so much more for Barry that Wally's been getting the shaft.

I just think this Doomsday looks bad compared to the other version shown. I hope this is just a picture of Doomsday from the early years.

this version might just have him created with boots rather then him putting the boots on. Although i wouldnt be against him being intelligent. I loved him as a mindless destroyer that just wants to see death but i dont like when they upgraded him to sense Kryptonians and i dont like when they made him intelligence only to give him fear and he runs away.
