More 'Forever Evil' Details Revealed

Geoff Johns states who the big bads are and how 'Forever Evil' begins!

DC's current big event hasn't even wrapped up and we're already getting some big reveals about their NEXT story! Chatting with IGN, writer Geoff Johns dished out some huge pieces of info. So, if you want to go into DC's post-Trinity War world with as little info as possible, now is the time to back out!

Gone? Okay, good. So, September is being called Villains Month, but who will the "real villains" be in FOREVER EVIL? Feast your eyes on the image below.

No Caption Provided

That's right, it's Ultraman, Owlman, Johnny Quick, Superwoman, Power Ring and Deathstorm, a new member. As for the story itself, Johns tells IGN that "As far as the world knows, the Justice Leagues are dead. What happened to them and where they are will be revealed within the pages of FOREVER EVIL, which is focused squarely on the greatest villains in comics." As for the above slogan ("evil is relative"), the writer says, "what I mean by that, is that our villains are as complex, deep and as compelling as any of our heroes. Every antagonist in the DC Universe has a unique darkness, desire and drive. And the reason for being of Forever Evil is to explore that darkness." Additionally, Johns pointed out that the first issue will have the planet literally falling into darkness as power and communication are no more. This is when the Crime Syndicate "begins their plan for conquest."

Viners, how do you feel about these reveals? Are you stoked for Forever Evil or do you have event fatigue? Speak your mind below!

So much for eliminating the multi-verse with the New 52...

When was it ever announced DC was eliminating the mutiverse with the New 52? You're aware of the ongoing comic Earth 2, right? Not to mention Grant Morrison's run on Action Comics and his upcoming Multiversity.

@friskynesss: The old Crime Syndicate Owlman was the Earth-3 version of Bruce Wayne's brother Thomas Jr. Just like Ultraman was an Earth astronaut who gained powers on a space mission and Superwoman was really Lois Lane, the last of the Amazons. (She killed the rest.) Though their costumed personas mirror Earth-1 heroes. Their origins and true identities do not. I don't remember the stories behind Power Ring or Johnny Quick.

I'm just waiting to see how they write this Ultraman, with the new 52 Superman is no longer a boyscout or an idiot with superpowers he has actually shown tactical prowess and is willing to kickass more often, Ultraman is an evil version of Superman what stopping him from just using heat vision to kill Lex and the league he will form, are the writers going to use PIS to protect lex of will thye have villains die during this arc, and will any of the events that happen here continue into the main story

I'm really counting down the days until this hits. Trinity War started off very promising, but everything since the infamous JL vs. JLA scene has been very rough for me to read. JL Dark and Phantom Stranger's issues, in particular the writing, disappointed me. The only other highlight I can think of so far was Pandora's little skirmish with Vandal Savage.

But I'm crossing my fingers that Forever Evil brings the badassery, as well as plenty of good cameos from the lesser-used villains as Geoff often loves to do.

So now we dont have to read the rest of Trinity War, great.

Haha, same with Infinity sometimes too many previews/details are bad.

I want to know how Black Adam is back and when Bizarro showed up.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but for all of you interested in purchasing the villains month 3D covers, you should read this DC official release:

Official Release

Due to unprecedented demand for the September 3-D motion covers, DC Entertainment announces that orders on the 52 Villains Month issues will be allocated. These issues are now sold out at the publisher level.

Now, each 3-D motion cover issue will have a Standard Edition with a 2-D cover, priced at $2.99 US. The Standard Editions are scheduled to arrive in stores on the same day as the 3-D editions, starting with titles on FOC starting August 6 and closing on August 12, which will arrive in stores on September 4.

In addition, the entire run of 3-D motion covers will return in December in the Villains Month 3-D Motion Complete Set. This item is on FOC on August 12; see below for details.

“Because of the time needed to create the 3-D motion covers, we were forced to set September print runs much further in advance than we normally would,” said Dan DiDio, DC Entertainment Co-Publisher. “As we got close to the FOC dates, even though we were very aggressive with our sales forecasts for the 3-D editions, it was clear that orders for these issues were going to be greater than the quantities we had printed. Once we saw from the first 3-D edition FOCs that we were oversold on initial orders, we decided to institute a system across the entire 3-D line that was in accord with previous retailers’ ordering patterns to minimize the impact of fringe speculators.”

“It’s very exciting to see how much interest there is in these 3-D covers, which are latest in a long line of innovations from DCE, like the fold-out poster in Superman Unchained #1 or the die-cut covers from the Death of the Family issues,” said Jim Lee, DC Entertainment Co-Publisher. “Our goal every September has been to create great, new ways to draw attention to our entire DC universe line and the reaction to Villains Month capped by the launch of our first universe event ‘Forever Evil’ has been just incredible.”

The allocations will range from approximately 50% to nearly 100% on different titles. The allocations are based on an average of your orders of each Villains Month titles’ base title over the past few months.

Like the 3-D motion cover versions, the Standard Editions will be first printings of each title.

To give retailers as much time as possible to focus on ordering the Standard Editions and the 3-D Motion Complete Sets, retailers will no longer need to place FOC orders for the 3-D editions for the remaining weeks in August—therefore, the 3-D motion cover issues scheduled to arrive in stores on September 11, September 18 and September 25 will not be listed on FOC.

Retailers will receive an email from Diamond detailing their allocations on each 3-D motion cover edition before the Standard Editions’ FOC date, and should check their allocation on each 3-D issue carefully.

Retailers should watch their FOC lists in the coming weeks for the Standard Editions of all 52 Villains Month issues.

Please note that the digital versions of these issues do not have 3-D Motion Covers. Like the Standard Editions, the digital editions are priced at $2.99 US and will be available for download the same day the 3-D and 2-D print editions ship to stores.

Retailers who wish to decrease their orders on any of the 3-D motion cover issues should contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative or DC Sales Representative.

DC’s red-hot 3-D motion covers are set to return in December in the new Villains Month 3-D Motion Complete Set! This set will include second printings of all 52 Villains Month titles with the 3-D motion covers plus the Forever Evil #1 3-D Motion Cover Variant Edition. (Standard Edition cover shown.)

The Villains Month 3-D Motion Complete Set (JUN138292) will be on FOC on August 12, and is scheduled to arrive in stores on December 11 with a price of $199.99 US.

Please note that because of the longer than normal production time needed to print 3-D motion covers, this is the soonest they can arrive in stores. The issues included in this set will be printed to order; they will not be allocated. Covers in this set, including Forever Evil #1, will be labeled “second printing.”

And don’t forget to order the DC Comics—The New 52 Villains Omnibus HC (AUG130289), which has its own 3-D motion dust jacket and is scheduled to arrive in stores on December 11.

@entropy_aegis: his talking about the point book next month which is about batman villain and not batman himself

I have no idea what he's trying to say really, even if we take villains month in to account there are 16 Batman villain books not 12(which he wrote in bold) and none of them will feature Batman in a leading capacity so what exactly is he complaining about?

Honestly DC is really trying to give ppl bat-fatigue. Most DC characters are going to have 1 tie-in book during this series.

The Batman universe will have like 12, that's not even much of an exaggeration it's really gonna be like 12 batman related tie-ins to Forever Evil.

I'd be interested if it was a different character in the suit, like Dick, Tim, Lucius's kid, or even someone totally new. But if that is Bruce it might put a damper on the whole event.

Um what?

The Forever evil event will be specific to the following books

Forever Evil

Arkham War

Rogue Rebellion

A.R.G.U.S

Justice League

JLA

JLD

Teen Titans

The only Batbook I see here is Arkham War and Batman's not even gonna be in it.

The nice thing with DC Comics is that this is actually their first event in terms of being a universe wide limited series since Flashpoint. Since then, events have been within their respective themed books; Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and etc.

Oh I'm definitely stoked for this even if it does seem to right on the tails of Trinity War too soon. I hope this isn't a trend where DC goes back to big events so often. Part of New 52's strength I think has been that the titles have been relegated to self contained storylines and arcs.

Hell yes. A lot of us figured Crime Syndicate was involved in this, but it's good to see confirmation firsthand.

Also, Sinestro, Black Adam, Cap Cold, Black Manta, Bizarro, and Lex. So cool. Can the Justice League please just stay "dead" and let these guys be the heroes forever? :)

Batman(hopefully Bruce Wayne), Luthor, Black Adam and Sinestro on one team, that's a dream come true for me, only if they could've replaced Cold and Bizzaro with Zoom, Deathstroke and Grodd.

Woah, slow down there brother. Aren't you curious as to what made Batman join the villains? What this is all about?

On another note, I am extremely excited to see Luthor and Batman teaming up!

First, Batman is DC's attention whore in that they cram him into everything. And I'm a big Batman fan. Secondly, it's a cheap deal if characters like Superman and Wonder Woman get captured and sent off whereas the more 'human' characters like Batman and Constantine remain on their Earth.

John Geoff said that Batman may not be Bruce Wayne. So dont judge too early.

Does that matter? It's still a use of the Batman brand to promote and sell this event like hot cakes rather than letting it stand on its own as a villain vs villain event.

Hey, you know I noticed something, where is Constantine in these promos. I know he survives trinity war and is around in Forever Evil due to solicitations of JLD but what is he up to. I know he recruiting people like Swamp Thing but I kind of want to know if he has a plan or not.

Woah, is Batman on the one of the teams or is he trying to trip Ultraman? I could almost see him siding with them for some reason, given the fact that Catwoman's on the team. And what's up with Ultraman punching Black Manta?? I'm mean watta fa? Not stoked about that at all even though I woulda been if it was Aquaman doing the punching. Get 'em Captain Cold hold that dude back! Lol. Other than that, I'm pretty anxious for this story arc. Wanna see how this turns out! Kinda confused from the looks of it though, but I like the characters that are in it so far. Are we gonna see some hero and villain team-ups here?

Edit: Lex, not Ultraman, lol.

I like the idea, heh. And, as far as i remember, before Flashpoint Power Ring was possesed by ring with spirit of Voltoom, whose ring in New 52 was "sent back to his corrupted universe" after Wrath of First Lantern. That means many interactions between him and Sinestro. :)
