Moon Knight Battle of the Week RESULTS: Moon Knight vs. Green Arrow

The dust has settled and only one of these heroes is left standing. Which one is the victor? Come find out!

Moon Knight being the latest Character of the Month means we're going to give him plenty of praise on the homepage (Khonshu should be happy with that). We'll promote some of his stories, ask why you love him, and even showcase his best covers. But being the Character of the Month means we're also going to test his ability as a combatant. Moon Knight's first challenge: Green Arrow! Should the anti-hero defeat DC's Emerald Archer if they got into a fight? According to the voters, the answer is yes!

The Fist of Khonshu earned 55% and Oliver Queen received 39%. Only 6% think this fight is too close to call and has the potential to go either way. So, why does the majority believe Moon Knight can defeat the accurate hero from DC? You'd think Green Arrow's accuracy and variety of trick arrows would give him an immediate edge, right? Oliver's superb abilities at range are indeed a big advantage, but Moon Knight has decades of experience against marksman.

Not only has he danced around the Punisher's gunfire and even caught an arrow, but his crescent daggers are often used as an equalizer. Spector really has a thing for using his throwing weapons to disarm or disable his enemies. He's commonly used them to injure hands, destroy weapons, and most recently, he cut a bullet in half. Dealing with the onslaught of arrows Oliver can dish out won't be easy -- and if he does get tagged, he has ridiculously high pain tolerance -- but it's not impossible for him to handle this obstacle, either. And, if he does close the gap, his effective hand-to-hand abilities means he has what it takes to eventually earn the win. However, proper use of Green Arrow's trick arrows (if you're reading GREEN ARROW, you know they can be very effective) could be a game changer. Anyway, let's see what a few Comic Viners said about this brawl.

Chaos Burn

"Moon Knight has a history of dodging projectiles such as bullets and arrows, and I think even if they do tag him, Moon Knight clearly shows the pain resistance to be able to close the gap before Green Arrow does too much damage. Moon Knight could easily throw projectiles of his own (well practiced crescent darts, truncheon etc.) and put Green Arrow's aim off enough that the arrows don't hit their mark. And once Moon Knight gets into close combat, I believe he will overpower Green Arrow relatively quick, emerging with a few cuts and scratches of his own - though that never bothers Khonshu's avatar...."

"Interesting match-up but I don't think Ollie would stick for long. I mean he has a range advantage because of the arrows but Marc isn't going for the first time against an opponent who relies on long range combat and uses weapons of that kind. The best example for him dodging something that is shot at him is from the most recent Moon Knight series where in #2 he basically cut a bullet in half with his moon daggers,so it seems like an arrow wouldn't be much of a problem for him. That being said he will pretty quickly cut the range in half and maybe he will even be just too close and will rely on a h2h combat which just puts him above Oliver and that will make him fall.

But of course there is another scenario which isn't much likely to happen but there is a chance,Oliver to trick Marc. I mean that one explosive arrow may be just too much and to be enough for Ollie to win. If it is set at the right place and it explodes it might make MK a little bit dizzy and then he will be an easy target."

Omnicrono

"I'm leaning toward Green Arrow for the slight majority in light of the battle scenario. Moon Knight has never encountered a ranged fighter quite like GA. The man is arguably the most talented and tricksy marksman on Earth in the DCU, and he'll have plenty of cover from which he can maneuver his opponent into position on this battlefield. So if GA keeps his distance, maybe even gains the high ground quickly, he pretty much has this one in the bag... in my opinion.

That's not to say GA has to always keep his distance either. His martial arts skills are nothing to scoff at, allowing him to go toe-to-toe for a while against some of the greatest close-quarters combatants in the DCU, such as Black Canary and even Batman. Moon Knight is going to have a difficult time even if he does manage to get in close. At the very least, GA should be able to hold his own in an up-close confrontation... long enough to seal the deal with a trick arrow or two, for which Moony has no answer."

Even before the TV show though, Green Arrow was still hundreds of times more popular then Moon Knight, even among comic readers. There are people who read Marvel Comics who don't know who Moon Knight is to this day.

His small following of fans love him, but he is pretty much a no-name to everyone else.

Yep. As I said, I wasn't disagreeing on that.

Most avid comics readers know him nowadays

A 'Moon Knight runs the gauntlet' with Batman's rogues gallery would be good.

Or, I see a lot of streetleveler style battles being pitched here. What about pitting him against some supernatural characters? One of Moon Knight's beats is the occult and that's a cool aspect of him. I'd like to see a battle that reflects that.

Moon Knight vs Shredder.

Please make this happen!

I predict a "too close to call" vote being a majority.

How come? There are a lot of edges on Moon Knight's side in this battle that enabled him to win here. Why wouldn't that be the case against Shredder?

I think they're pretty even in skill and physicals. If Moon Knight is using his better tech, he should win, but if it's a straight up fight, I think it would be pretty even.

@tparks: Fair enough, that's very good reasoning! And honestly I wouldn't put it past Gregg to make that kind of close match up between street levellers (hint, hint) ;)
