Moon Knight Battle of the Week: Moon Knight vs. Green Arrow

The Fist of Khonshu or the Emerald Archer? Who will win when these two clash? Come pick a winner!

Ladies and gentlemen, Moon Knight Month has officially begun! This week, we're testing the anti-hero's skills against Green Arrow, one of DC's most accurate heroes! Does Marc Spector have what it takes to defeat Oliver Queen or will the Emerald Archer drop Spector with his variety of arrows? You have until Friday to think it through, Viners. But before you cast your vote, please be sure to read all of the rules. Seriously, it's like, a minute or two out of your day and provides all of the important information (where they're fighting, what gear they have, etc).

Match Rules

  • Combatants are in character.
  • This is a random encounter (aka no prep for either team).
  • They're fighting in a generic downtown city setting. It's unpopulated, at night and all standard city lights remain on. Assume they start roughly 30 feet apart and visible. There's a fair amount of cover in the location (parked vehicles, bus stops and such). The entire area is on limits. This means alleys, rooftops, building interiors, the sewer, etc.
  • Moon Knight's gear: to keep things simple and balanced, let's assume Spector has his "classic"/2006 gear. This means it's the iconic costume (not carbonadium armor), and he has his truncheons (which have multiple functions), plenty of crescent daggers, spiked knuckles and anything else which is considered standard for him at that time. No vehicles, obviously.
  • Green Arrow's gear: Oliver has his New 52 gear. He has a plentiful supply of regular arrows but his supply of trick arrows are very limited. For simplicity's sake, let's say skill feats from pre-52 are applicable.
  • Incapacitation, knockout or death all count as elimination. Making a tactical retreat counts as a loss, too.
  • Hey, you know what would be really cool? Treating everyone else in the debate with respect. If you think someone's saying something that just isn't true, go ahead and stick to the facts to point out why. There's no need at all to drop insults just because you disagree with someone. Seriously, this is just talking about a fictional fight, there's no need for immaturity and mudslinging.
  • If you think the poll isn't going how it should, making an informative post about why a character is being underestimated and spreading the word is far more useful than complaining. Just saying.
  • One more thing: you don't need to write an essay to be selected as the Viner Argument of the Week. Sometimes concise posts can be way more effective than a flood of paragraphs.

Viners, you have the week to research, debate and vote! This means there's no reason to vote right away if you don't have all of the info you need to make an educated decision. Check the homepage Friday for an updated article with the following:

  • Thoughts from the staff.
  • A Viner Argument for both characters (can't include scans and must be in the poll thread).
  • If we're lucky, blurbs from industry talent.

Feel free to make future battle suggestions in the comments below or via Twitter! Want to continue celebrating Moon Knight? He'll be the topic of tomorrow's 'Question of the Week' and his 'Best Cover' will be posted on Friday.

This all comes down to whether GA has anything that can take MK down before MK gets to GA. If he does, it then comes down to whether he realizes he needs it before it's too late. This fight also comes down to what phase of the moon the night of the fight is (If a full moon, then Ollie is toast, if a half moon, then it's a more fair fight). Also, does Ollie get his beer? if so, then he'll probably just offer some to Mark, and all will be forgiven. Back on a serious note, what trick arrows is he given, and exactly how many? Is he allowed to use his mini nuke? How many net/ blunt force arrows is he given? Without knowing the approx. numbers, this is a hard decision. That being said, I feel that Mark will come out on top for this fight once it comes to h2h, as GA isn't known as being the best H2H fighter, and while neither is MK, MK makes up for it by being enhanced by the moon.

MK 6-7/10

Moon Knight cut a bullet, therefor arrows never touch him.

This is a very even fight to me. I could definitely see Moon Knight winning, but I can also see Green Arrow pulling this one off. You also don't say what his trick arrows are, just that they are limited. If Oliver has some of his better trick arrows, GA wins this one, but if he has like a flash grenade arrow, Moon Knight might be able to win after Ollie is done with the trick arrows.

But hey, I like Green Arrow better so I'm going to say Green Arrow.

But it really only comes down to how they perform in this single fight. If Moon Knight moves flawlessly, while GA makes a few bad moves, MK wins this. But if Oliver moves flawlessly, while Moon Knight stumbles a bit, then Green Arrow has this.

@hit_monkey: I hadn't know that, thanks. (I haven't read one of his books yet, I just looked him up)

Why don't you vote to close to call?

I haven't seen any feats from this new GA that make me feel he can take MK, but a good fight. GA's weapon gives him a good aadvantage that makes this close. He would definitely need to take MK out from a distance to have a chance.

My vote is Moon Knight

What Green Arrow won't realize coming into this fight is that he's not up against just one person; he's up against four diverse personalities and the possibility of a supernatural force backing Moon Knight up. Moon Knight's Jake Lockley and Steven Grant personalities may not have too much of an impact in the battle, but you can be assured that Marc Spector will have his brutal moments. If one personality and strategy isn't working for Moon Knight at any time, he only has to switch personalities to turn the tides. Though he may no longer possess his supernatural abilities tied to the phases of the moon, his god, Khonshu, has not abandoned him yet, and he is a force to reckon with when Moon Knight is down and out.

"I've died before. It was boring, so I stood up." -Moon Knight, from Moon Knight #1 by Warren Ellis.

Using trick arrows like glue bomb or riot(expanding foam) arrows he could incapacitate , and using pre-52 feats he has a higher level of hand to hand that could keep up, he's even been able to block throwing stars from deathstroke with his bow, and if he had his sword would probably be a much easier win, since he doesn't it really depends on what arrows Ollie has, his h2h might be much better than it used to be, but nobody wants to take spiked knuckles, even with ollies heightened training it most likely should be what arrows he has that makes the biggest difference, he usually knows the right time to use them, leading his enemy with regular shots if he can, or if they block or catch them he often chooses the right time and right place to put a trick arrow to catch them off guard, and since Moon Knight no longer has his powers, while he's still very dangerous, his stats aren't overwhelmingly over Green Arrows or some that he has fought, again, it largely depends on what trick arrows he has

Wow this is a close match but I'm gonna have to go with Moon Knight who has a God on his side

Great fight. Moon Knight wins. He possesses the speed to out match the quick draw of Ollie. The moon-a-rangs close the distance and Marc beats down Ollie.

TOOM CLOSE TO CALL MAN

Posted by jwrose5

I would have to give this one to Moon Knight. His equivalent in the skill department over in DC is Batman (maybe not quite as developed or expansive but he also has a variety of tools) and Batman would beat GA quite often. Mind you, GA would give MK a very good fight, not making it easy for him to get close and even holding him off for a bit, but in the end I think Moon Knight has this.

Posted by jwrose5

but then again, both have an unpredictable and playful nature. GA could fire a trick arrow at MK's feet that exploded and released a foamy glue to inhibit his movements. Then flies the boxing glove arrow for the KO on MK. It could go either way. Too close to call. MK and Hawkeye could go either way. Batman and GA could go either way. Too close

Green Arrow, Moon knight is 100% pure garbage

I am huge Moon Knight fanboy so I would have to say Moonie. When you are the avatar of a revenge God then I think a dude with an arrow is no problem. I mean Bushman had a Liefeld amount of guns and Marc still carved his face off.

What a great battle - MoonKnight vs the Green Arrow. I vote for MoonKnight on this one as Marc and his "team" have too much to offer poor Ollie.

Close Match. In a distance Fight, Arrow would have it. However, Moon Knight have taken out Taskmaster who was using arrows and Moon Knight took the damage in order to get closer and take the physical advantage. In addition, moon Knight has more weapons and gadgets than any other Marvel Hero (aside from Tony Stark & Reed Richards). I'm going to give this close, and probably very brutal fight to Moon Knight.

Could go either way but leaning toward Green Arrow.

I've got some research to do. I'm a big MK fan but I'm going have to make a valid argument for or against. These battles are really cool because they essentially help you learn about a character you otherwise wouldnt.
