Mike Marts Becomes Marvel's New Executive Editor

Marts is returning to Marvel since leaving back in 2006.

What will this mean for DC and the Bat-Office? Here's the official press release from Marvel.

Marvel Entertainment is excited to announce the return and addition of Mike Marts as Marvel’s newest Executive Editor.

Mike Marts was Senior Editor for New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men working closely with Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Joss Whedon and John Cassaday and numerous other X-related hit titles at Marvel Comics from 1996 until 2006 when Marts made the leap to DC Comics. While at DC Comics, Marts was Group Editor managing the Batman books, but beginning this February, Marvel is excited to welcome him back to the “House of Ideas” as one of our newest Executive Editors.

No one could be more thrilled then Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. "Mike Marts is a seasoned veteran who's edited some of the most critically acclaimed and highest-selling series of the last decade," says Alonso. "I'm overjoyed to see him return home, and I can't wait to see what he brings to Marvel!"

"It's amazing to see how Marvel has grown as a company since I worked there last,” says Marts. “I am beyond thrilled to be rejoining this powerhouse at such an exciting time."

Mike Marts returns to Marvel amidst the hugely successful and ambitious All-New Marvel NOW! initiative – featuring bold new launches from some of the industry’s hottest creators.

But, but, but...

Good for him, good for Marvel. Although I didn't much care for most of the X-books during those years...except Joss Whedon's Astonishing run.

I believe this is at least partly because of DC moving their offices to Burbank, which is totally understandable.

DC and the Bat-books lost a good editor though. Wonder what this will mean for Batman: Eternal...

well crap, this is pretty big news. Its sad that this could be happening due to the move to Burbank, lets just hope that this move doesn't screw them over any further

The Batman group is the most consistently good part of DC, so these are some big shoes to fill.

Damn, always thought Marts did a fine job as the Bat-editor. Wonder who's stepping in?

Yeah, okay, cool, whatever. Who's gonna edit the Bat books now?

This is the end of Batman as we know it!!!!!! Everyone panic!!!!

Just kidding. To be honest, I've never paid attention to editors and all that, my attention was always towards writers, artists, and colorists. So I'm not sure how to react over this

Maybe the Bat office can get an editor who can handle continuity now.

Oh thank god! The direction the current editor was leading things was catastrophic.

Hopefully he can give Marvel a bit of a shot in the arm, as it were.

Anything that anyone can do to stem the consistent tide of crap they have been coming out with since Quesada took over is a step in the right direction.
