Michael Douglas Cast as Hank Pym in Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Years ago I thought he'd be ideal until Idris Elba turned up on the scene. That dude would have been perfect if the potential hadn't been thrown away on Heimdall, who could have been played by anyone really.

Given this decision, though, I wouldn't be surprised if T'Challa, King of Wakanda, wasn't played by Fred Williamson, with Craig Robinson as Kasper Cole stealing his suit and becoming BP, then forming the Crew.

Well besides Captain American I don't think their was ever mention of any other superheroes before.

So, fans of the character can't voice their opinion because this might be a film that's full of changes to the source material, but might satisfy the general public? It could end up being a great film, but it could still have the disappointment of being a bad adaptation, which I think is O.K. to complain about.

Seriosuly, after the Avengers did you guys decide to do everything half assed. Iron Man 3 is one of the worst movies i've ever seen and Thor: The Dark World was meh and now I can look forward to a horrible adaptation of the Hank Pym character. Hank Pym is 70 years old, was never an Avengers, doesn't know the Wasp, and doesn't create Ultron ? Are you F*cking kidding me ?

I do agree that he is bit too old for that role. But I'm going to hold on and see what Marvel have in mind with him in that character.

This news is a double-edged sword for me.

Michael Douglas is going to kill it as Hank, and with Edgar Wright at the helm, this movie is going to be great. Hank being relegated to a supporting role, and likely not being a superhero, at least not in the modern day, is kind of upsetting though.

Dang it! Why?! Who is this Scott Lang that he gets to be Ant-man and not Hank? Scott's a nobody. I do not approve of legacy characters getting movies at the expense of the original. The only way this can be good is if Scott get's killed, and Cassie becomes Stature. And why does Hank have be so old?! That basically kills any chance of seeing him in action. Hopefully Janet doesn't get the shaft. I guess now I know how all those Mandarin fans feel. At least I still have Avengers A.I.

Why would we have heard of him if he was saving lives in SECRET? Iron Man was the first movie and Stark said he was entering a big world that he didn't know about. Clearly Iron Man wasn't the first super powered individual.

I'm especially excited at the prospect that at least someone had super powers between Cap and Iron Man.

Meh. They probably decided to go with this kind of plot to quell any chances of audiences getting confused with all of pym's identities (Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Yellowjacket) I just hope that they somehow include the wasp, maybe make janet van dyne pym's young lab assistant or something. I just hope they don't decide to say that pym was in the public saving lives, like he did stuff in secret back in the day, because then it'd make no sense why we would have never heard about him before in the MCU

While many Marvel movie news in the past got people upset, most of us got over it... but this I don't think I can. Michael Douglas is a great actor, but Hank Pym should be young.

My first reaction when i heard the news was WHAT? I know that directors are not going with the traditional source material from the comics but why does Hank have to be this old? it makes no sense to have this casting for Hank so now were going to have what an older Janet too? there goes my hopes for this film. But i still want to be proven wrong.

Ive liked everything Marvel Studios has done (yes I even liked Iron Man 2 and loved the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3) but this new is dumb! I wanted to see a young Hank Pym kicking some ass next to the Avengers. Not some old guy who could have a stroke in the middle of a fight! How are they even going to use Wasp now? Have Janet be Hanks daughter and then Scott Lang saves her and bam theyre in a relationship? Duuuuuumb! Get Edgar Wrights arse out of there and do a proper re-write...!

Damn...Pym is going to be made into a side character that will probably not see any action. I really was hoping Pym would get his chance to shine in the Cinematic universe, not as Rudd (i never expected Rudd to be Pym) but somewhere. But, guess not.

Guess Marvel can't get them all right. XD

Well, its more so because a lot of us were hoping that Ant-Man in this movie would actually BE Hank Pym.

Because everyone already has an idea of what they wanted an Ant-Man movie to be and they have a hard time letting go of that.

You have got to be kidding. I like Scott Lang but Hank was the first Ant-Man he deserves to have his own movie. They allready taken the Avengers origins from him now this. I bet if the movie has succes he and Jan are gonna disappear or get old for some dumb reason to resemble the movies like Tony-RDJ, Nick Fury Jr or Hawkeye change of costume

When Edgar Wright first talked about the project he said he saw it as a legacy story where Hank Pym was in a 60s-Tales-to-Astonish setting as Ant-Man only to eventually retire and have his suit stolen by Scott Lang in the present. i think it is a pretty awesome idea and damn cool casting. This is exactly the kind of idea that will help differentiate some of the superhero movies. Like Mask of Zorro

Exactly how I feel. What if the first movie Batman was in had Bruce Wayne mentoring that kid from Batman Beyond? That's how I feel. Ill never get to see one of my favorite heroes on the big screen, at least not fighting with the Avengers like he's supposed to.

Not of fan of this direction they are taking Ant-Man in, I wanted a young Hank and Janet in the Avengers… But Douglas is a great actor and I trust Marvel (even after Iron Man 3, you can't win them all), so I will hold judgment till more information comes out, like a plot synopsis.

So Hank will be more of a mentor character in this and Lang will inherit his tech.

Yeah... I'm not liking this idea too much.

I get what they are trying to do, but I've never thought of Janet being with anybody but Hank. I'm sure they'll make her Pym's secretary or something, who ends up becoming the super hero we all love... I just always thought of Pym and Janet as a packaged deal.

Okay, you have a spectacular Avengers movie... then you have Iron Man 3. Now this. Well, that didn't last long.

I know iron man 3 was the number one movie last year, but did you SEE it?!!!!!

MetH is probably in tHe minority but I tHink tHis is great. MetH is so glad Pym will be in tHe movie and Hell, maybe we can see a young Pym in action in flasHbacks someday.
