Massive Creative Team For Spawn #200 Announced

It's a milestone 200th issue. Will you be there?

No Caption Provided

It's hard to believe that Spawn is finally approaching issue #200.  I still recall reading issue #100.  There were some crazy things that went down there.  Alas, after that, it felt like things started going down.  I stuck it out over the next few issues but due to budgetary restraints, Spawn fell victim when I tried cutting down my pull list.

If you haven't been reading Spawn lately, now is a good time to start.  Things have been heating up once again.  Also with Image United approaching, there's definitely some major things coming our way.

In February, the 200th issue will be released.  Spawn.com posted some information about the creative team.

    •    Greg Capullo (Spawn, The Creech)
    •    David Finch (New Avengers, Ultimatum)
    •    Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Haunt)
    •    Jim Lee (Batman: Hush, All-Star Batman and Robin)
    •    Rob Liefeld (X-Force, Youngblood)
    •    Todd McFarlane (Spawn, Haunt)
    •    Danny Miki (Spawn, Ultimatum)
    •    Marc Silvestri (Cyberforce, Witchblade)
    •    Ashley Wood (Popbot, Spawn: Book of the Dead)

Pretty impressive.  Creator Todd McFarlane commented on why these creators were chosen:

Issue #200 is fairly significant in the history of any comic book. I was looking at my artist selection as more of an impact on the history of Image Comics. So, I started with people who came through the gates of Image, beginning with some of the original founders like Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee, and Rob Liefeld. Then I went to some of my favorite Image artists over the years like Greg Capullo, David Finch, Danny Miki, and Ashley Wood.

Besides pretty pictures, we needed to have a few surprises in the written story itself. The obvious choice for the job, at this point, was Robert Kirkman.

There are more surprises as it's mentioned that they'll still have "a few surprises" up their sleeve.  Looks like it's time to catch up with Spawn.

I have a copy of that fateful issue, which is nice as they dont reprint that one anymore.

Just like what Top Cow did with Darkness #75, which I enjoyed immensely. I'm sure this will be just as good with all the talent involved. There's no doubt Kirkman will write a good issue. I'm most interested in seeing the art of Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, and Marc Silvestri.

I started reading spawn in issue #14, then I stopped reading around the time when Al Simmons and Wanda's unborn daughter came back to life. I also read many alternate spawn titles like blood and salvation, but I simply stopped caring when I heard Al Simmons was killed. The story was intriguing at the beginning, and it was worth reading, but unless Al returns, I don't think it will be the same

I started picking SPAWN up again once the ENDGAME arc began.  #195 took a million years, but it finally dropped in my box this week at my store.  I haven't read ANY of it yet due to the fact that I was waiting to see what #200 had in store for us.  So it's written by KIRKMAN and I see JIM LEE's name, sold.  Glad I've been spending money on a book that I haven't read in years.  I'm hypocritical, I guess.  I give people crap for buying comics just because they think it might be worth something.  I comics are meant to be read.  I just need Spawn in a big chunk.  I loved Spawn as a kid, can't wait for #200.

Are they going to hand over Spawn to Kirkman altogether or is this just for issue 200?

For some reason, I'm kind of intrigued. Maybe I'll start picking up Spawn again to see what's going on.

Ugh,why is his mouth always open now...shoot,when did he get a mouth?
And anyway,I don't think I'd be approaching the books even if I had money.
Spawn lost me a while ago.

Last issue I read was #100 which was...odd. I'll pick this up, the artists attached are the main draw for me.

If I am not mistaken Al Simmons was killed off some time ago right? And now, there's a new spawn?

At this point, I could really care less. Spawn was a decent concept that just never was properly cultivated. It wasn't even a very good comic until Neil Gaiman introduced/organized much of what has been utilized in its first 100 issues. Was it any wonder that Gaiman and MacFarline got into it for a little bit over royalties? When Cogliostro screwed over Spawn, I rolled my eyes and dumped the title.

Much like all of the Image titles of its time, they were very stylized crapfests. I wonder if Todd ever was successful in selling all the 'roid balls he collected over the years?
