Mary Jane Not in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

I have no problems with it. Hopefully they do it like they did in the comics and make her a stranger to Peter instead of a childhood neighbor like in Raimi's trilogy.

I'm wondering if this means that Gwen's death will also be put off until the third film, given the way things happened in the comic books. It would be rather odd to have Gwen dead and still have no MJ on the scene. That being said, I loved the first ASM film, so I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt.

I can't say I'm sad but I'm not glad either. MJ could have a very strong impact in Peter and Gwen's relationship. I mean, perhaps Peter spends some time with MJ and this causes Peter to doubt his relationship with Gwen. This might leads to a temporary breakup, and just as Peter and Gwen are about to patch things up, she dies. Eventually, he finds comfort in the arms of MJ, but he never fully gets over Gwen's death. As usual, Gwen's death inspires him to continue fighting crime.

It's clustered as it is, so good move I say.

I didn't even know Shailene Woodley was going to be Mary Jane, but if she is that actually raises my hopes for this series. She was fantastic in The Descendants and deserves more appreciation as an actress.

Sony No you don't need a 4th film. By then the cast will be 30 something still pretending to be in Thier late teens.

I thought this meant that Woodley was out and I was happy. She's not right for Mary Jane.

What a load of BS. MJ and her relationships with Peter and Gwen is far more important to the Spider-Man mythos than Electro or Rhino. Maybe they should have only had one villain instead of two.

@leadervladimir: That definitely sounds interesting and I had a similar idea in mind but I figure if they do kill off Gwen in this movie they might not want Peter to just go running into the comfort of MaryJane's arms. From an outside view it might end up making Peter seem less likable because he was almost cheating on Gwen.

Fine with me, and if the do recast, I still won't care. She didn't really fit what I picture MJ as, but I heard she was a really good actress. That said, I hope that what they cut of will give more time to other characters that can be developed. And based on Jamie Fox saying that he does a voice as Electro, and yet we have only one scene with him as Electro, and another as Max Dillon, I'm guessing all his scenes are in the studio, with possible cool stunts.

This is a great news, Gwen should be the main focus of the second movie and yeah they should definitely recast Woodley.

They should tease Mary Jane throughout TASMII but never show her just like in the comics. Then at the near end of the film have the Jackpot scene play out. Right after Gwen's funeral.

I don't mind the recast. But I got a little problem with people complaning with the look of Shailene Woodley. I'm fine with Mary Jane been closer to her ultimate version to 616 MJ.

shes a good actor but i dont think shes attractive enough to be mj. so im guessing for 2 peter and gwen get really serious and in 3 he meets mj and gwen will die and in 4 he will end up with mj

Well I was expecting this to happen.To many big characters were announced for a single movie.

I'm happy with them recasting a new Mary Jane because I feel they can find someone better to play her but it would have be awesome to see this and the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

They should have Aunt May try and set Peter up with her throughout the movie as a little in joke. :)

They should at least mention Mary Jane in the second movie as a way of introducing her, so that her role in the third one won't feel forced.

Why is everyone labeling Shailene Woodley a bad actress? Sure, Secret Life is one of those tween ABC shows, but she herself is actually quite skilled, especially in her recent roles. I would be very disappointed in a recast.

I'm glad Woodley will be replaced by another actress in the 3rd film.Woodley was just not hot enough to portray MJ.Hopefully they can cast a hot actress who can also act.
