Marvel's Feige Says Skrulls Won't Appear In 'The Avengers' Movie

More clues about the adversaries in the upcoming film are revealed.

The closer we get to the release of Marvel's upcoming 'The Avengers' on May 4th the more the film's cast and crew have started talking about the project which will bring some of Marvel's biggest properties together on the big screen for the first time. The upcoming issue of EMPIRE which hits shelves this Thursday, January 26th will not only feature some very cool 'Avengers' magazine covers, but it will also include some few choice words from the 'Avengers' film Producer Kevin Feige.

According to SuperheroHype-- who happened to score an early copy of the upcoming issue -- the head of Marvel Studios revealed that the Skrulls may not actually be the adversaries in the upcoming film after all. Feige asks who "said they were aliens?" The mag questioned whether the "bad guys" in the movie would be "beings from one of the other nine realms, like the Frost Giants which we saw in Marvel's THOR. Feige replied that it's closer to that, although it won't be the Skrulls.

"Closer...It's not Skrulls, I've been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we're not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that."

So let's briefly run through what we do know. The upcoming film will feature Loki as the main bad guy, but he's going to need a little bit of help taking on the entire Avengers team from what could be beings from one of the "other nine realms." Question is, who? Asgardian Cosmology consists of nine different realms, which are as follows:

== TEASER ==

Asgard which is the home of the Asgardians.

Vanaheim which is the home of the Vanir.

Alfheim which is home to the Light Elves.

Midgard which is the Earthy plane of existence.

Jotunheim which is the home of the Giants.

Nidavellir which is home to the Dwarves.

Svartalfheim which is home to the Dark Elves.

• Muspelhiem which is home to the Demons

Hel which is the realm of the dead.

The adversaries likely won't be from Asgard, Midgard or Jotunheim since Asgard is Thor's home, Midgard is Earth and Jotunheim -- home of the Frost Giants -- already appeared in Brannagh's THOR film. This leaves us with six possible realms that may appear upcoming Avengers film. Which do you think we will see? Who do you think Loki is most likely to team up with in the upcoming film?

You'll be able to take your pick of the four different versions of Thursday's EMPIRE magazine featuring Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man or Thor. Those who subscribe to EMPIRE will receive a cover featuring all four characters. You can check out all four different magazine covers below. Which is you favorite?

Can't be the brood or the celestials.

It seems like we are getting closer and closer to the Avengers movie. Can't wait!!

This is disappointing.

I was hoping it was the Skrulls.....Oh well I will wait until the film comes out to finally find out. But it is nice to speculate ^.^

Well Skrulls, for the most part, have always been F4 bad guys. Kinda like how you never really see anyone but the X-Men fighting Brood.

Who is to say that in the film universe the inhabitants of the other 6 realms are the same as the comic ones....

What about the Chitauri, or the Badoon. Then there's the Ovoids, and the Rigellians. It can't be any of the races from the Nine Realms, because they don't have space ships, unless of course Joss Whedon makes up something like that for the movie. But if you remember the scene in Thor where he told Jane Foster that in Asgard, magic and science are one in the same, then one of those said races from the Nine Realms could have something like that. But it's Joss Whedon, so it might be none of the above. The only other race I can think of would be the Shi'ar, but them appearing wouldn't make any sense without having the Kree(Operation Galactic Storm), but it's been said that the Kree won't appear either, so it couldn't be the Shi'ar, so i'm gonna have to go with the Chitauri, but like I mentioned above, It's Joss Whedon, so it might not be them either.

STIFLER'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Outside_85

I rekon it will be elves in one variety or another, setting of Surtur and his Musipleheim boys seems a bit too much...then again its Loki at the wheels.

Oh and just for being a wiseguy; the world Hel rules is called Niflheim or Niflhel

There are rumours of the Red Skull appearing in the Avengers movie as well. The bad guys that Cap and Thor have been shown to be fighting in the filming of Avengers could be HYDRA agents. Then again I could be completely wrong.

Downey Jrs head doesn't look right on that body :s

- That's exactly what a Skrull would say ......

The more Asgard orientated they make this film, the less interested I become and Hulk doesn't get a magazine cover? What a load of crap.

OK I may be wrong but isn't the cosmic cube and loki seen in the end of the Thor movie a clue of what's to come in the Avengers movie?

Posted by The Stegman

Why would people think the Skrulls WOULD be in the film?? i thought the villain would be Loki with the Cosmic Cube

I like Iron Man better with his helmet on...

Posted by sladewilson30

@Omega Ray Jay: I believe I made that point in my comment, but your right, because it's Joss Whedon in the drivers seat, so i'm clueless.

@sesquipedalophobe: yup

Seems like the hulk is not a real avengers in this movie. Firstly they take an actor who has nothing from banner and every trailer, teaser or magazine are without him.

What was the name of the alien race from the Ultimates? Chitari?

I say it's them.

Posted by Rich-Man

Fox own the rights to the Skrulls. So if Fiege won't say that they are in a Marvel Studios film. I think they are going to be in the Avengers movie but will have another name.

My money is that its demons from Muspelheim. I could be wrong though...

What if one of the Characters is as Skrull and It's not Revealed to Avengers 2. I'm Guessing the Skrull imposter is either Hawkeye,Maria Hill, Phil Colson or The Dr. Guy from Thor.

Stop playing with us marvel just say who the villains are.

well since this is an ultimates line up this will be Ultimates villains. so that is a great possibility.

Posted by joshmightbe

I don't see why Marvel thinks its such a big deal that we don't know who the villains are, did knowing the joker was going to be the villain of the Dark Knight ruin the movie for anyone?

Posted by sora_thekey

Light Elves are friendly... so that discards Álfheimr. Dark Elves are made to conquer but their weakness is iron so facing Iron Man would be futile!

Creatures from Hel is likely but that means that the introduction of Hela would be mandatory and Mephisto... Although I think Sony has the rights to Mephisto because of Ghost Rider.

I thought Thanos had a connection to this movie... Does he belong to any of the realms?

So the Kree then?

Thats funny because the leaked footage from the Official Avengers video game (that was cancelled) featured the Avengers fighting Skrullz...

Edit: Heres the cancelled Avengers game for those who havent seen it.

I heard Fox still owns the rights to skulls or some such nonsense, so legally they couldnt use it? So they give skrulls some other bs name and they do the same thing.

p.s. wtb thanos

I don't think it's from a realm. If so then maybe its the Dark Elves, could also be those demons from the fiery realm. Could Surtur also be a villain? Doubt that has anything to do with it though.

As far as aliens go, he said it wouldn't be the Skrulls OR the Kree and It may be from some sort of other dimension or the like. He said it would be aliens though. It's been shown in casting calls and he said it himself there even after suggesting it may not be aliens.

So I say it could be...

-Shi'ar: Very possible, my most likely guess.

-Annihilation Wave: Usually associated with the Fantastic Four obviously but I think they could be pulled off for an Avengers movie.

-Rigellians: They always are trying to colonize other planets like they have tried with Earth. Their relations with Thor and Iron Man from the comics make them relevant.

-Brethren: Have faced the Avengers. It'd make sense. I could see them in the Avengers movie too. They always have had a cinematic look to them.

What is happening with the Hulk? If they make him a background character I am seriously going to be disappointed.

Thanos. I'm callin it. (Mostly because I have a $20 bet riding on it with a guy at work)

"sensational" huh?

Posted by zackattack529

@wowylied: he'll probably have like one good 5 min fighting scene at the end where he rages out over lokis army

All the covers look really cool, And who knows what the species shall be.

Posted by Namor1987

I say Black Widow well turn on the Avengers due to her KGB training & be a villain

Posted by cmaprice

Ha! At first I felt bad for Jeremy Renner, but then noticed he's on four of the covers at the bottom for his upcoming Bourne film. Heh. Hawkeye wins.

Posted by SKRULLCATEXE

But really, how would you actually know whether the Skrulls are in the film, or not. Maybe they're sitting next to you right now...

I don't think so much that the Hulk isn't in it, I think they probably are going to add him last because he is cgi. It has meant that the teaser trailers are a disappoint for Hulk fans like me. Also I agree with a previous poster about the Skrulls I would have expected them in the movie because there has been alot of Marvel material on cartoons comics etc which would led you to believe they would be the enemy.

Posted by kamionero

@sladewilson30: I was thinking the same thing. The Chitauri are likely suspects.

Also, since she kind of teases about them being more otherworldly rather than true aliens, I'm saying the invaders come from the Negative Zone.

Posted by Eyz

That's actually good news, if you ask me..

Posted by Chaos Burn

explain this then?

im not expecting much from this movie
