I support gay marriage. Homosexuality is a natural expression of ones personal sexual preference and I could care less what two people in love do behind closed doors.

I support my grandparents right to a sex life as well ... but I don't want to have to watch them making out. I sure as heck don't want to see it illustrated in one of my favorite comics. It's unappealing.

Same with two men making out. I see no problem in not wanting to look at detailed illustrations of two men kissing, cuddling and giving goo goo eyes to one another in the content of a mainstream comic and one of the principle books housing one of my favorite teams.

I'm disappointed in how prominent Marvel is making this relationship. They are forcing it down our throats. To the point straight men have to gloss over it or simply pass on the book for other content.

Sorry all, two men making out is as unappealing for most straight men as watching grandma sucking face with grandpa ... and then some.

As unappealing as it is, you can argue there's double standards in that. Hetro couples can kiss in public, but homo couples can't?

I'll but it to support the cause, even though as a bi/gay man, I'm 50/50 on whether I myself care about marriage. Ironically, their marriage may last longer than most comic book relationships.

Never said they can't. I just won't be sticking around, taking in the sights. Likewise, I simply do not want to read or pretend to enjoy it in my entertainment media. It's inclusion to the degree Marvel is doing it simply means one less X-Book in my collection.

Consequently, hetero couples who are engaged in tongue gymnastics with one another in public are equally worthy of a 'get a room' request. I won't be taking any personal pics of that spectacle either. (I'm not talking about perfectly acceptable kisses and hugs in public showing affection here).

wait a second here, i just did the remembering (took a few drinks) but it justifies my idea of why marvels making this a big hype?(my earlier post) i mean was it not only 10 years ago that we saw Apollo and the Midnighter make their vows of matramony. 10 YEARS! This isn't new. Archie had the hype becasue, well, its a comic series thats read more by the non-mainstreme comic public. This just seems like a shameless atempt at trying to make a relavent comic (politically that is... a territory that i do not like being in (due to the lies and the many legged monsters asking me which school i went to) so i'll new step back into the land of the unicorns).

But i guess the main reason for my complaint about the whole "overselling it" issue is that im oblivious when it comes to the marvel universes LGBT characters. Im more of the DC guy (and thus why i brought up Apollo and midnighter from wildsorm... or now the "new 52") so im more aware of characters in that universe. but eitherway im saying this

2002- Wildstorm marries Apollo and midnighter

2012- Marvel marries Northstar and Kyle (they left a 10 year gap, just so that it didnt look like they were copying :P)

I just want to apologize for my ignorant comment of Obama. I am not a big fan of his but the statement I made was unfair. I did apologize to Cyborg6971 thinking that our whole conversation was public but was in fact private. I still stand on my beliefs with this subject but as I have said, I spoke in arrogance and ignorance about Obama ruining comic books. I have been receiving backlash for the comment by multiple people and just want to put it out there that I am in the wrong on that one. Cyborg6971 knows that I did try to debate in a respectful and reasonable manner after that. Sorry if you were offended and that's sincere.

You should get over your homophobia. If it's not you, you shouldn't be worried about anything. Homosexuality is a part of society. Real life. Aspects of that are portrayed in comics, and that's just how it is. If you don't like, you don't have to read it.

It's crazy how many people are opposed to this idea. I thought society as a whole was evolving and understanding that all intolerance and hate does is limit our potential. Just because someone is a homosexual, some people are going to completely write them off. They are missing out on some amazing people with viewpoints, cares and concerns that are as valid and valuable as any heterosexual person. We are not defined by our sexual preference, we are defined by our prejudices and viewpoints. People should try to love more and hate less. And to bring this back to comics: if you don't like it, don't read it. Keep the hate to yourself, all you are doing is showing the rest of us how intolerant and hateful you are. Let the hateful responses and PMs commence. :)

No, I advocate equal rights for everybody.

The flaw in your comparison is that the examples you have listed cause outright harm to people, there are victims involved. There is no victim involved in two people loving each other and being able to marry.

I'm sorry, this grandstanding really does nothing but cheapen the issue of same sex marriage. It's pandering and an obvious, blatant attempt to sell comics through sensationalism. Marvel is doing a serious disservice to a real world issue by making it a marketing ploy.

There's nothing that entices young men from ages 13 to 30 to buy a comic book like two guys kissing on the cover.

I'm sure this will sale for novelty and niches, but if comic books did this on a regular basis, sales would plummet.

I saw the announcement, went 'meh' and continued browsing. In the end it'll just be another story people look back on and go 'that was a turning point for Marvel' or '...that was a good idea, but terrible execution'. I don't read this title but I wouldn't drop it just for one storyline when, odds are, what I read it for will return the following month or something. I prefer heroes vs villains myself.

I am kind of on the fence with this particular marriage and the hype around it. As a supporter of gay marriage, I'm happy to see it becoming a part of mainstream comics. On the other hand, I had to look up Kyle to even see who he was. I tend to prefer gay characters who are awesome and just happen to be gay (Batwoman, Northstar, Apollo, Midnighter) instead of characters who are created simply to be a GAY character (Kyle, Bunker, etc). This makes the entire thing smack of exploitation instead of real support.

Marvel Exec 1: Astonishing was a flagship book under Whedon but has sucked ever since; how do we make it good again?

Marvel Exec 2: We could hire another quality writer and give him free reign like we did with Whedon.

Marvel Exec 1: Nah. That would keep the book from being tied into the crappy crossover of the month. No, what we need is something trendy. What's hot right now.

Marvel Exec 2: Gay Marriage is in the news.

Marvel Exec 1: Great! Let's have a gay marriage thing! Grab me Northstar and a random gay minority character. Two birds. One stone. I'm giving myself a raise.

Hell no it better not happen especially on a important character on the DC side I always read them when they are straight but making them gay outta no where is stupid.

@CODYSF: the thing that makes me the MOST upset..is the reason they are doing that is because the gay community requested it and kept pushing it till they got their attention....its like first of all these characters were created from the minds of genius creators from wayy back before many of us were born. why at any point would they particulaly choose for them to be gay?

its like ok if you want a major DC character GAY. MAKE YOUR OWN!!??! don't try to change things that don't need to be changed, and especially that is not your created character.

i have nothing against gay people, i have gay cousins and i respect that they live the way they want. but i do have a problem against this. and the DC executives are money hungry jerks! this is why Alan Moore is constantly warning people from doing anything involving DC...

DC has lost my respect as a company for this. i dont even care what character it is. nothing is wrong with making NEW gay characters like Bunker or Batwoman. but CHANGING a characters orientation...unbelievable. and the thing that suck is the creator of the character has no say in anything. as much as i sound like a hypocrite, i WILL keep reading DC COMICS, but i lost respect for the publisher.

if it was the creator of the character changing the orientaion..i would be gladly fine and respect that...the company doing it is a crime IMO

and that america..is what grinds my gears.

@Super_SoldierXII: I don't understand why straight people like you, especially men, think you are so privileged that everything in the world should be catered to your own desires and dislikes. God forbid you have to see something that falls outside your narrow comfort zone (in this case a comic you aren't being forced to buy), you have to make demands, it makes you uncomfortable therefore it shouldn't exist. I'm not real fond of the dumb, cliched, and corny macho heterosexuality that is found in almost every form of fictional media, but I don't go around saying it shouldn't exist because of my own feelings towards it.

Maybe this can be a wake up call for you to realize the world does not revolve around you.

That's a gorgeous cover.

Not digging the marketing of this plot though.
They should focus on good storytelling, and let whatever controversy, etc develop in the blogosphere and Fox News, where they're starved to make big deals out of nothing. You'll get the attention regardless, Marvel, don't help cheapen your own characters and plot right out of the gate. You reek of desperation at this point, cheapening what could be a great moment in comics.

So Obama say that he is not against gay marriage and one instant after marvel announce gay marriage and dc a gay character.

This is really the kind of disgusting action that can make me stop a comic. Knowing that they don't care about the "gay" but only want more and more money. I bet that in 4 weeks we will hear no more of this because no one care about this kind of thing in a cape comic.
