Marvel Unveils Joe Quesada's Spider-Man OMIT Cover

What really happened at the wedding?

Whether you've been digging or loathing Brand New Day, we're about to get answers about the wedding. What happened when Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson were supposed to have been married? We've heard that "everything" that's happened before has still happened, except for the wedding.

Today, Marvel has unveiled the Joe Quesada's cover to Amazing Spider-Man #638. You might recognize how it's a take on the classic scene in Amazing Spider-Man #50.

Marvel says the answers may come with a cost and questions whether we should be worried for the ones that Peter holds dear. Amazing Spider-Man #638 is written by Joe Quesada with pencils by Paolo Manuel Rivera and Joe Q. It's on sale July 21, 2010. I cannot wait.

Great looking cover!  Probably going to get this one!

I'd rather find out what happened on the day Joe Quesada decided it was a good idea that Spider-man make a deal with the devil.

I guess he really liked the Batman under the Red Hood DVD cover.

That's the day my soul was shattered and my faith in 616 Spider-man was completely shattered. But for truth, I wanna know how Quesada got this past the "what if we published this" phase.

  1. HOLY BLONDE CHEERLEADER BATMAN that looks beautiful! and they should be together :{

I wish people would stop drawing Spider-Man with Deadpool eyes.

@BrianG2k: I agree.... I don't take deadpool seriously so its hard to take Spiderman seriously when he looks like deadpool.

I love this cover and can't wait to get some answers.  They should've done this months ago.

I hope this is revealed too... but to be honest what I really want to know is who is the old woman Mephisto impersonated that supposed to be a future version of Peter...  or something!

I can't wait for the "Aunt May No More" story arc

@sora_thekey:  i think the women was their future daughter since she changed from an older version into a child before saying i am the daughter you'll never have

@G-Man:
Yeah that scene has been overused.

Quesada has made an artform out of telling the fans: "You don't like One More Day? WELL SCREW YOU!!! EVERYTHING'S BETTER WITHOUT MARY JANE!!!"

Not exactly the best way to keep readers interested.

I really hope this is the start of undoing this crap. I re-read #458-544. Stories where sweet and brilliant. Re-read 545-current. I didn't even want to read them. They where all awful. Almost anyway...

Does it really matter why the wedding didn't happen? Since it all comes down to Mephisto it's not like this will show what their "true" feelings are. Now if Joe Q left his "Leave It to Beaver" code of conduct back in TV Land, MJ and Peter could've gotten divorced. Then we would be seeing some genuine emotion.

I love this cover!

In other news, folks, Joe Quesada will be kicking you in the balls until you accept this.

The Gauntlet has been pretty good and Grim Hunt has been great as well.  Let's hope Joe Q leaves Spidey alone for good after this arc.

No kidding.  Joe Kelly rocks and should stick around.  Quesada years ago actually challenged Todd McFarlane to a "draw-off" to see who's Spidey was better.  What a moron.  His Spider-Man has never been good, never.  That cover is garbage IMO.  Unoriginal.  He should try and right the X-FACTOR ship, or maybe do some DD covers.  I agree with HT101, leave it alone Joe.  However, because I read Amazing, of course I'm getting it, I just hope that this hype is real and the story is good.

Love it !!!!! looks great and I can't wait.

One of the things that really bothered me about the OMD/BND storyline (there are a lot), is that Peter Parker has always been seen as this normal kinda guy who has to deal with everyday problems, ie. he was a high school student, he can't afford rent, etc.  So if Quesada didn't want Peter and MJ together (which is just stupid, btw)  why not just have them get a divorce?  How much more normal can you get?!  50% of Americans do it all the time!  But instead he just rewrites their whole history and puts Spidey pretty much back at square one.  Yawn.

I like the changes made by BND, but I too hate that Spidey made a deal with Mephisto of all people.
Posted by jlat89

After OMD I dropped ASM till #600, and The Gauntlet and Grim Hunt made me almost forget about Quesada's "it's magic! we don't have to explain it"  line.  I just hope he doesn't kill the story even more than he already has.  Honestly there was no reason or need for OMD/BND, just because he says his best years were before he got married doesn't mean it applies to everything.  Let's  break up one of the most iconic relationships in comics.  Yay!

One More Day, came about just as I started to get into comics (I'd always been a fan of the characters from the animated shows), and I started following Spider-man circa Civil War and Back in Black and fell in love with the depth modern comics achieved. One More Day was a hell of a build up to something impossibly wrong. The Spidey I knew and loved wouldn't make a deal with Mephisto. Lately, Spider-man comics seemed to have rebounded from the whole mediocrity of Jackpot and Brand New Day, etc. but now my optimism wanes with the announcement of Quesada's further meddling. I really don't like talking mess about a particular comic industry professional, but I strongly disagree with the direction he's taken Spidey. He deserves better.
Posted by growup
@Krakoa: agreed, it's like just as Spider-Man is really a comic worth reading again, Joe Q gets involved again to mess things up haha.

O.M.I.T. : ONE MORE INANE TITLE!
Posted by Clifftothemax

OK, the cover is cool and a nice homage, but what... they're gonna say that MJ just up and left on her wedding day? Despite it being one of the most pivotal moments the character had ever been through?

Joe Quesada just keeps digging himself a deeper grave amongst comic fans with every new release.

Posted by Death Certificate

I don't like this.

Edited by Clone of me
@JD907:  I whole heartily agree with you on this one. The sad thing is Quesada is out to destroy all of Marvel  as I can see it, is this because the man has forgotten everyone who reads comics or at least for the most part  wants fantasy to be better for the every man/ everyone hero!
