Marvel Studios Announces 5 More Release Dates

We now know when 5 movies will open in 2017, 2018, and 2019. But which movies are they? Let the speculation begin!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe made an excellent debut with Iron Man back in 2008 and has expanded significantly since then. The next movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, will give us a better look at this growing universe. We know the studio has plenty of big ideas for the future, too. Ultron, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange... this is just scratching the surface of what they have planned for us, and today, they're giving us a little teaser about some future projects. 5 released dates -- ranging from 2017 to 2019 -- have been released.

  • July 28, 2017
  • November 3, 2017
  • July 6, 2018
  • November 2, 2018
  • May 3, 2019
No Caption Provided

So, what do you think the movies will be, Viners? Thor 3? Avengers 3? Guardians of the Galaxy 2? Maybe another hero will get some spotlight... Black Widow? Black Panther? Could Hulk finally get another chance at a solo adventure? Or perhaps the Netflix characters will be brought to the big screen? Only time will tell!

Hopefully we'll see a Black Panther movie. I hope it will be a fantasy movie with sci-fi sprinkled in it. So rarely do I encounter good African fantasy.

YES. Everything else is nice, but THIS is the prize as far as I'm concerned...as long as they do Black Panther I am happy. That has the potential to be one hell of a movie.

I'm sure a Hulk solo is one of them.

I'm betting that one of the later one is Avengers 3, with Thanos.

Other than that anything is game.

Do you think she has enough fans? not that she won't in the future, but with the dates being set now wouldn't that be kind of presumptuous on Marvel's part?

Not at all. But a man can dream! I think it would be a successful wildcard.

Deadpool anyone? Like, seriously, many people have been waiting for that movie for a loooooong time.

Deadpool will come when Fox is willing to pop an 'R' rating on it.

As for Black Panther... expect modifications. African Superhero is great. From a hyper advanced nation full of alien tech... that is a minefield.

@brucewayne19: Glad someone brought him up. I've been eager for some Moon Knight ever since rumors of a series started circulating back in 2006. I would love for Marvel to treat the property as an action/ horror movie. When the writers of the Winter Solider were asked what Marvel character they'd like to write for next they said Moon Knight...<fingers crossed, but doubtful>

To be honest, I am thrilled there are so many new films planned! This is brilliant on its own, never mind what the films are about.

(Although, I better get Carol somewhere in there. Black Panther is so overdue, it's getting Leonardo DiCaprio level Oscar-snubbing obvious.)

A Black Widow solo is lame. I'd rather see Black Widow and Hawkeye team-up for a movie. Then they can introduce Mockingbird.

My guess for Marvel Studios Phase 3

July 17, 2015: Ant-Man (Confirmed)

May 6, 2016: Captain America 3 (Confirmed)

July 8, 2016: Doctor Strange (Expected)

May 5, 2017: Thor 3 (There's really no doubt that THOR will be getting a third film. Maybe something to do with Loki unleashing Surtur by mistake since Odin is missing. Can't count out an appearance from Enchantress and Executioner either.)

July 28, 2017: HULK (Ruffalo and Marvel have both been hinting at Hulk getting another shot at a solo film)

These next three could be a few different things. There's a loud cry among fans for more diversity and Black Panther and Ms. Marvel would fill that role. They would also fit perfectly in Avengers 3. Marvel has also been pushing the Inhumans HARD lately in the comics, leading many of us to believe they will be showing up either on AGENTS of SHIELD or a movie. I think Marvel is taking a "wait and see" approach to Guardians of the Galaxy. Obviously they want it to do well, and if it does then they'll surely get a sequel, but I don't think Marvel has committed themselves to it yet. Black Widowcould get a solo or teamup with Hawkeye. Namor would be a personal choice of mine.

November 3, 2017: Black Panther (It's time)

July 6, 2018: Ms. Marvel (just a guess)

November 2, 2018: Inhumans (Kind of a dark horse similar to everyone's surprise when Guardians was announced)

May 3, 2019: Avengers 3

I want the following movies (in no particular order):

1. Black Panther

2. Captain Marvel

3. Moon Knight (long shot, but it would be cool)

4. Civil War (by then the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be established enough, and they can do it in two parts)

Does anyone else prefer what WB is doing in terms of releasing DC films (assuming that the rumoured leak is false)?

I mean, I actually feel like I've earned watching each DC film (and no, I haven't ever been disappointed), having waited so long. It feels like everything Disney produces is trying to satiate the hunger of the currently bloated film and TV mediums. I mean, everyone here should know how diverse and expansive the comic-book medium is, but it seems that pretty much all originality and anticipation is now being sacrificed in favour of stealing our money at every turn.

Agree with you 100%...I will give GOTG a chance but after that I'm done with marvel studio movies...

@k4tzm4n: you also live in a era where people can and will get burned out on comic book movies just like they did with the westerns

And if that does happen, at least we'll be left with a large amount of enjoyable films.

@tony_shark:

With great respect, I somewhat beg to differ. Marvel films capture part of what Marvel comics do, but DC has and will always be very different. If you consider films like the Dark Knight trilogy, then I see what you mean (but I don't really like them as comic-book films any more), but pretty much every other DC film has captured the element of at least part of the respective source material; even Green Lantern was a brilliant translation of the silver age stories, and Watchmen couldn't really be more like the graphic novel (until the end, I guess).

Man of Steel, I personally think, deals with its influence and source material better than any other comic-book film in the past few years (with the possible exception of Dredd, which I retain is the best comic-book adaption we've seen so far) - the subtle influence from stories like All-Star Superman in MOS is nuanced and unpronounced, but exists only to aid a coherent and extensive emotional realism in an otherwise original narrative... which has yet to be seen in the larger-than-life displays of money and vanity that Disney churn out at an excessive rate.

What I take issue in is how Marvel films are becoming a genre, which the general public are misappropriating with comic-book films. I mean, they exist as a definite and strong subset of comic-book films, but they should never be considered a good substitute for the other 90% of the medium's potential. If people are so desperate to see comic-books 'come to life', why don't more people actually read comics? We need more original stories to balance out this, like adaptations of more Vertigo Comics and golden age properties.

I don't want it to appear as if I'm taking issue in what you're saying, but I just don't want to see the medium be limited by the public's accepting of stereo-types and colossal misappropriations, with I think Marvel studios aren't helping with.... and I certainly don't want comic-book films for the sake of it.

I would love if one of these was Marvel trying to do a Superman film better than DC. Out of Hyperion, Miracleman, and the Sentry, any of their Superman-ectypes could make for a great film.

Yes, if BvS: dawn of justice makes more dough than Cap3, I could see Marvel making a Hyperion movie for revenge. I think it would be a decent film too!

After comments from Kevin Feige, I truly expect a Black Panther movie, it's in development according to him.

This is kind of a get out of jail free answer from Feige, though. There have been tons and tons of movies that are in development that never see the light of day. Ant Man was in development for something like ten years before coming to fruition (the train wreck that that fruition seems to be is another matter entirely). So Feige saying that something is 'in development' is unfortunately not anything close to confirmation.

If Marvel knows what they're doing they'll be announcing a BP movie and a female solo soon, though.

You do have a point there. BP has been in "development hell" for decades actually- Wesley Snipes has wanted to play him ever since he was in Demolition Man, & he hoped his Blade roles would lead to that- but nothing ever happened, there was talk, interested studios, then he had his legal troubles. I have a good feeling there will be a Black Panther movie- at least I'm hoping for it- it would make sense for Marvel to present the first black super-hero, & the audience would be wide- BP has definite blockbuster potential, going from the techno-shamanistic society of Wakanda to the gritty streets of the city. I could see him being done very well cinematically, & be connected to characters like Cap & Tony through the Vibranium angle. Dr. Strange was in that same development hell since the '80s, Stan the Man himself mentioned in a Dr. Strange letters page back in about '84 I think that they were working on a movie that had Doc fighting Dormammu on Easter Island at the film's climax, but it never surfaced. Now we get Stephen Strange name-dropped in Cap: TWS, & directors & writers are being chosen, so Doc is nigh upon us- I hope the same thing happens with BP; it's one of the properties I definitely want to see on film.(Though I sincerely doubt Snipes would be attached to it.) I also agree Marvel needs a good female solo- & I think they already have a prime opportunity with Black Widow. I think Scarlet's solo head-lining film "Lucy" will be the test of whether she has the chops to be a solo female lead or not in the studio's eyes- thought Natasha's character itself has plenty of solo potential, perhaps tied to her history with the Soviets & Bucky, maybe borne out of developments from Cap 3.

So they have nothing planned for 2016? I think one of these is either a sequel to franchise or a new franchise starting. Hope we get Moon Knight some time soon.

Moon Knight would probably be a TV series rather than a film, if that was the case it'd be extremely likely for him to get a series, due to his suitability for the defenders.

I'll tell you right now what one of them should be. Moon knight. Marvel would have a great oppertunity to convert some dc fans of they did a moon knight movie. As a dc only reader for a long time, when moon knight came out I actually had to pick it up, seeing as it was dark and brooding, yes I am a batman fan, I loved it and he quickly became one of my favorite heroes. Make moon knight, a lot of fans would love it.
