Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Big Plans for May Sweeps

The show's momentum is building up.

Have you watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier yet? This week's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a big crossover due to the events of the movie. As you may have realized, there will be some minor spoilers here.

Those that saw the movie immediately wondered what the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. would mean for the show. In a very nice fashion, we got to see some of Hydra's infiltration in this week's episode, "Turn, Turn, Turn." The notion of "Trust no one" played a big role and there were some big twists. Seeing some of the reaction to A certain high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent's death was a nice touch. With the finale coming up on May 13, some of the show's big plans have been revealed.

Back when S.H.I.E.L.D. was a happier place. Before the infiltration.

TV Line has reported that Cobie Smulders will return as Maria Hill on the April 29th episode. We saw where she headed off to at the end of The Winter Soldier so this should answer some more questions about her future and that of S.H.I.E.L.D. Along with this news, it was said that she will, in fact, play a "large role" in the episode, compared to her brief cameo in the first episode.

It was also reported earlier that Samuel L. Jackson will also return to the show, as Nick Fury, in the May 13 finale.

Hail Hydra

Update

Marvel.com has an interview with Executive Producers Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell about Smulders' return.

Show has SERIOUSLY improved in the past 4 or 5 episodes. It's steadily gotten better in general, but it's appointment TV for me now. Good stuff.

Regarding last night's episode, I just REALLY hope they don't shy away from the big twist/reveal! I don't want a cop-out, let Ward go full on evil! I don't want this to be a "brainwashed" thing.

I had to stop watching because Hulu and ABC haven't shown certain episodes and I refuse to watch out of order. I'll pick back up when the full season is available and I am glad to hear it gets stronger.

This show has been great and has tied everything that has happened in the movies together. It is a great perspective to look at and gives people an idea of how non super-powered people are dealing with the events in the Marvel Universe, while still adding to the stories in the movies.

The series has been getting increasingly better and better in recent episodes. I'm loving it.

They need all the help that they can get.

HuluPlus has had every episode for a few weeks after their premiere. Now you can only get the last 3(?) episodes on there, but as each new episode has come out, they've been on Hulu for a few weeks.

^This. I was still really disappointed in Ward, though...

Almost. They didn't keep the midseason finale up very long. It got replaced pretty quickly by an older episode. They may have put it up again later but I wasn't patrolling to catch it. No worries, though. I'll see it sooner or later. I haven't seen Cap 2 yet anyway.

@liveforever: Part of me thinks it's his/Coulson's way for them to infiltrate Hydra. I did immediately think his insistence to go along was a little fishy. The firing of the gun could be part of the scheme. But it didn't look like the typical Night-night gun.

too little too late? havent seen the ratings but it has gotten better but i feel like they are just doing stuff just to be shocking and not that it was planned all along

I quite liked this episode

@g_man: I'm thinking it was a modified night-night gun with red goop instead of blue to simulate blood. Hand is too smart/paranoid to fall for that, so I'm betting it's all a setup to put Ward deep undercover.

Oh okay. I know I watched the midseason finale on Hulu so I know it was up there for a little while at least.

Well the plot of TWS was already known to the creators of the show before the series even started. So I think it's pretty safe to say that the show's creators knew that SHIELD was going to collapse, and that was obviously going to impact their show about SHIELD.

Did anyone else see Ward going evil superman in the preview for next week with five a clock shadow

I'm looking forward to seeing how the agents restore the honor of SHIELD

I am glad to see this, this poor show needed a fresh start and boy it got one. Now just like Arrow I can't wait to see this show every week.

Wow i am completely blown away on how far this show has come. I really hated Agents of Shield but last night they turned it up all the way! And the big reveal at the end was classic television.

This has been nothing but a botched snooze fest from day 1,but maybe May sweeps will save it.Never ever launch a show when you are up against the Olympics or March Madness/Final Four nonsense. Who makes these idiotic decisions at ABC/Marvel?

Ughhhhh, I hope not. That COULD work, but seems like Garrett would be smart enough to check on that sort of thing, or notice they were non-lethal rounds.

Great episode last night. Tied in really well with Cap 2. Nice to hear some more news, just sucks that it's not about the returns of Blizzard or Graviton or what's up with Deathlok. I'm sure they'll all do some crazy stuff in the end, though.

@perfect_10: Unfortunately, it looks as though the numbers are still dropping, even with the Cap 2 tie-in and massive ad blitz the past week. At the point, it seems like a legitimate concern that the show may not be renewed.

AMAZING EPISODE. I couldn't have been happier. I hope the momentum gets kicked up via word of mouth.

Overall i still think the show is garbage but i did like last nights episode alot. Problem is you KNOW the show is going to wuss out and make Ward part of Coulsons plan or whatever. This show is never going to be the show to have the guts to do something drastic. Ward won't become a traitor no character will die throughout the show. The show will be the same old same old every week with the occasional multiple episode story.

@mchotcakes: true but the whole ward thing just felt like it was done for shock value
