Marvel Promotions And "Shadowland" Event!

Marvel promotes three of their top editors!

Marvel promotes three of their top editors!

Congratulations are in order! It was announced yesterday that three of Marvel's top editors, Tom Brevoort, Stephen Wacker and Axel Alonso all received promotions. Brevoort and Alonso are to be vice president executive editors and Wacker will move up from editor to senior editor at Marvel. When asked about what responsibilities he is most looking forward to, Wacker confessed his love for spreadsheets. Somehow, I do not think he was being serious.

"I'm really happy to be working with Marvel right now and am very proud of the books I've been lucky enough to be a part of and the creators I've been able to work with...Knowing what's in store -- both in the books and out of the books -- for the coming year gives me goosebumps. It's a talented crew here. Plus I'm always up for more meetings! Who doesn't love meetings? Oooh... and spreadsheets!

What do these promotions mean? In an interview, Wacker cited that he will still be responsible for the books he had been working on, but that he is also being assigned a new project!

"Basically I'm in more meetings now but my actual responsibilities as far as comics go is the same....Along with my relatively talented assistant Tom Brennan, I'm still editing Daredevil and Spidey three to five times a month, so little has changed. (Also a big book for this summer called Shadowland that I’m probably not supposed to mention.)

This is not the first time we have heard anything about the "The Shadow Land" project. In fact, last summer artist Billy Tan ( Thor) revealed that he would be working on "The Shadow Land" which will be released sometime this year and which "Tan said will involve the street-level characters in the Marvel Universe.  That event is scheduled for 2010."

So now we know that the "The Shadowland" event will start off in the summer, penciled by Billy Tan and edited by Stephen Wacker, but there is still no word on who will be writing. How could "The Shadow Land" tie in to the end of SIEGE and the start of " The Heroic Age"? I guess we will have to wait and see.

All in all, more money in your pocket is never a bad thing! Either Marvel's sales are doing pretty well, or the company is getting a little bit of Disney money? Either way, this is good news for these three editors.

UPDATE

We contacted Stephen Wacker at Marvel, and tried to get him to reveal any info on the upcoming event, but we did not get much.

Just that it’s one word: Shadowland.

Unfortunately other than that I have to be quiet for now.

I guess we will have to wait and see!

Well, Marvel Mondays comes early this week....or late given your perspective on the matter.

Good for them.

Speaking to the Shadow Land. I'm kind of making a broad suggestion, but I would wonder if it might have something to do with the Savage Land. That area is a rather unused portion of the planet. It was used during Secret Invasion, and last I remember it being used, it was where Scott and Emma went on vacation before the X-Men moved to San Fransisco.

What happened to the future period of 'no big cross-overs, let's give the readers a chance to recuperate?'

But what does the Savage Land have to do with the "street level" characters of the Marvel U that we know will be at the centre of this event? I think "Shadow Land" refers to exactly that, the low level characters you don't see as much of in other big events, like Daredeveil, Luke Cage, Punisher, etc. The underbelly of the superhero community, so to speak.

Nothing what so ever. I was in a weird mood and decided to speculate wildly.  I'll try not to repeat such actions in the future.

Mayhaps Shadow Land is where some some of the badies are sent after the events of Dark Reign. Maybe the Void plays a larger role. That or Doctor Doom will be opening a theme park.

Seems like I couldn't keep that promise not to wildly speculate.

Probably the usual 'street level' heroes Moon Knight, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Punisher, etc.

Back in the early 90s, Marvel had a sub-section of titles under the "Big Guns" banner. The titles in this group were Punisher Titles, Nomad, Silver Sable & The Wild Pack, Terror Inc., Cage, Death's Head

 and Deathlok.

For those who care, the word 'Shadowland' was mentioned in the recent Daredevil issue. It looks like Shadowland is being built by DD himself.
