Looks like Joe Quesada’s going to be even busier these days. He’s just been named Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment. He’s been CCO and, of course, editor-in-chief of Marvel’s Publishing and Animation divisions already, and will apparently continue to be. With this promotion, his job will be to ensure “that all portrayals of Marvel's characters and storytelling remain true to the essence of Marvel's rich history” across basically all media. That is, in addition to comics and animation, he’ll now be creatively supervising films, TV shows and video games, with a stressed involvement in the story/script development of Marvel’s movies.

Joey Q’s promotion recalls Geoff Johns’ in the corporate rearrangement DC Entertainment did earlier this year. They’re even getting the same job title. Both announcements seem to reflect an effort on both Marvel and DC’s part to insure greater consistency across all media platforms. This really is good news for fans like you, because it likely means that whatever Marvel movies are coming out in the future will reflect what you see in the comics.
It’s kind of crazy to see how Queseda’s ascended over the years. I remember when he was just a freelance penciler working on titles like X-FACTOR, AZRAEL and X-O MANOWAR. I also remember when his old publishing company, Event Comics, was first contracted to start the Marvel Knights imprint. We all thought it was just an edgier takes on some second-stringers, but it proved to be a sign of things to come for Marvel in a lot of ways.
Anyway, I’m sure all you Comic Vine maniacs have some strong opinions about this announcement, so let’s hear ‘em!
