Marvel Producer Talks Movies At San Diego Comic Con

Kevin Feige reveals movie details as well as what characters we can expect to see on the big screen!

Ultimate Comics Avengers #1
Sometimes, in order to gain something you have to give something up. I was a bit disappointed that among all the interviews I was able to score, I missed out on some very important panels. The way I see it though, is that the interviews are one of a kind, and the panel information generally tends to filter through the cracks after the big Comic-Con weekend is over.  One of the panels I unfortunately missed out on was the Marvel panel that featured Marvel's movie executive Kevin Feige, who discussed the future of Marvel films. Feige touched on which Avengers we can hope to see in the upcoming Avengers film, as well as what we can expect in the upcoming Captain America movie.

As far as the Avengers film goes, it seems as though we have a roster; not that it was hard to figure out! Feige cites many of the characters that we can expect to see in the upcoming film.

I think we know. It’s going to be Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Nick Fury. I think it’s safe to assume that there will be some members of the Hulk universe in the film as well. In terms of the additional, I think Black Widow for sure. SHIELD’s organization for sure. And, again, what’s exciting to me about the Avengers movie are seeing those four characters together and interact with each other.

The question that many fans may be asking, however, is whether or not we will be seeing the Hulk as a staple character in the upcoming film. Based on the hints the Feige was dropping during the panel, according to slashfilm.com, it is possible that we might be seeing him as the film's initial villain. Marvel seems to want to be keeping things as close to the comic books as possible, so it might be possible that we may be seeing some Skrulls in the upcoming film.

The upcoming Captain America film will most likely be a period piece, and focus on the Cap's World War II era days, where he fought alongside the Invaders.

Setting it in the Marvel version of WWII is going to open it up [to an international audience] in a big way. It’ll actually end up being our most diverse and our most international film. In terms of the cast there’s a group that [Cap] works with that will have an opportunity for much more international casting.

Feige also mentioned a few of the characters we will be seeing in the upcoming movie include Howard Stark, ( Tony Stark's father,) as well as an introduction of the Hydra organization.

It looks to me like Feige has made it his goal to maintain a clear and distinct association with the continuity we have seen in the Marvel Universe, and ultimately I feel that is what will make the Marvel franchise films a huge success. The more I hear about these, the more excited I get to see them play out on the big screen. How do you guys feel? Are you excited? Do you think that the Marvel film producers want to keep things as close to the comic books as possible?

i just hope that the rest of the movies building up to avengers are good since i dont ant to hate any of the  members before the film is even made lol

sounds great, but why leave out Hawkeye?  I think most people would want him in it somehow, even if he's introduced in the Avengers.

They're keeping Hawkeye close to the belt, he's been rumered for sometime as has Pym. and these are two that I think they wanted to surprise people with.

When I heard that he had mentioned the Invaders I was pretty floored.  If that's right, that means we'll see the original Human Torch and Namor (Who does Babs want to see playing him?) in the Cap film as well as Cap and Bucky.

Marvel Studios continues to impress the crap out of me every time I hear more and more information on their films,  now if they could only get the X Franchise back from Fox I could be a happy man.

Honestly I was hoping that the "Major Announcement" by Joe Q would be who's playing Cap not Marvel Man, but the actual news we got about the movies was eight shades of awsome.

Super hero movie set in WWII would be really original. If the Avengers is anything to go by what Iron man and The Inceredable Hulk were it will be an excellent film. While Marvel is doing well now with its franchise, i still cant help remembering how bad Spider 1 2 and especaily 3 were and just hope these new films dont go in the same direction! I really like the WWII idea, if they do it well it could be amazing, and i think the Marvel film wev seen so far!!

With rumors saying Hulk is planned to be the initial villain the Avengers face, I think it would be much more complete storywise if there was another Hulk film lined up before the Avengers film.

The reason I say this is because it would give the overall continuity more reason to make Hulk a villain. Or at least seem like the villain in the heroes' eyes.

In The Incredible Hulk, Hulk saves the day by defeating Abomination, but there was a lot of chaos and destruction left behind. With the initial film hinting at Leader's origin, I would think it would be perfect if The Incredible Hulk 2 would have Hulk save the day once again by defeating Leader. But there is once again a lot of chaos and destruction. In fact, I would say there is a big death toll from innocent bystanders.

This would make Hulk seem more of a threat and danger than a hero, both to the public and the government's view. This is where SHIELD steps in. General Ross (who was "recruited" by Stark in the first Hulk film) has been put in charge of the Hulk hunt because of his familiarity with him. Nick Fury is overseeing the hunt.

I already picture the final scene of this film. I say have this movie be the last one before the team film. Iron Man has been established. Thor and Captain America have been established already. And so in the final scene, Nick Fury along with General Ross meet with Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Thor (who is not as Dr. Blake but as the thunger god). They officially put together The Avengers. And the first threat they get together for is to stop The Hulk.

It all sounds great.  I was guessing that Hulk would be under the mind control of The Leader, being the "villain" of sorts for the Avengers.  Can't wait to see them all.

would any of body have a problem with the characters using their Ultiamte version costumes if they stuck to Universe 616 comic continuity

I'd love to see a Hulk sequel before The Avengers, too (and your plot outline makes sense!); but I think there's enough room to believe that the Hulk is already a dangerous threat to the public to warrant assembling The Avengers. Both in the main Marvel U and Ultimate U The Hulk has a really misunderstood image as a rogue. Cap replaced him by issue 4! I would really like to see The Avengers movie end with The Hulk changed back to Banner and then added to the roster as a member. That would be awesomeness! I would totally go see your movie!

That's okay I missed out on a lot of important things cuz i wasn't even there

they should use the ultimates with Black Panther. It would be cool!

So I guess the Venom Movie is nowhere near being ready to even be announced.

These movies are going to be amazing.. no matter how they do them.

I think The Hulk should be a member of the team and not the villain of the movie, because it wouldn't look right.I mean Bruce has full control of himself now,so why would the Avengers fight him. They should be fighting Hydra or a evil race of aleins.Hulk is a hero not a villain and heroes never fight othater heroes. People always have to see Hulk as a villain,I hate that. Other than that I can't wait for two movies. I hope they make The Incredible Hulk 2 (with The Leader as the villain)afther The Avenger movie.Well actually they could have Hulk as a minor villain in The Avengers movie, but have someone else be the main villain.

the movies can be good, or bad or so-so like anything else

I hope for the best though, as usual

The thing that makes Hulk different from other heroes is that despite him saving lives, he's always looked at as a threat because of his massive size and his tendency to smash and destroy a lot of things.

Just take a look at the original Avengers title in 1963. Hulk joined the team, but not too long after, he left because nobody trusted him because he was dangerous. This is why they sent him away during Civil War which also started Planet Hulk. This is why when he returned in World War Hulk, he was fighting everybody (although that's because he was directly upset with the Marvel heroes).

No matter what, Hulk is always looked at as a threat.

What can be done is have Avengers initially get together to stop Hulk. But somewhere down the line in the film, they realize there is a larger threat at hand. Eventually, they get Hulk on their side who comes to save them from being finished off and that is how Hulk is accepted as a hero. And in my little fantasy world, The Incredible Hulk 3 is a follow up on Banner/Hulk the hero and not the threat.

They didn't mention Ant-Man!

and Scarlet Witch should be included in the movie!

xD

Marvel is really kicking butt now, not that they weren't before, but now they're doing it ten-fold.

Marvel is kicking butt. I think it's because they are independantly making their own films. That means they decide what goes in the film and what doesn't. Not some bigger company who might step in and have some of their own ideas for the film's direction.

Another thing that's amazing is that they have a geat line-up of films with characters we all love. But the real great thing about it is that there is a bigger picture situation. We watched Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, but that wasn't the end of it. They're not stand alone films. They have their stories that are told within their own rights, but when the film is done, you know there's more to come.

Ant-Man won't be in it because they won't have a solo film for him before the team film. And it's clear they want the team to consist of characters they will have introduced by then. But I keep hearing them working on an eventual Ant-Man film. So if there will ever be Avengers 2, maybe by then Ant-Man can be part of the team.

Another thing they say is that it might be more comedic than what Marvel is making with most of their films. The general consensus is that they might go with the Scott Lang Ant-Man who is immoral and "irredeemable" with his powers.

So no Ant-man/Giant Man or Wasp?? That's disappointing. I thought they were going to do the Original Avengers Cast...

I just want to know whats going down with Spidey 4 :(

Posted by sfizzle09

yeah what happened to that antman movie that was being worked on?

Posted by fueljunky

I am pretty sure that villain in the Avengers movie is going to be set up in Iron Man 2. It could very well be the Mandarin seeing as how he was mentioned in Iron Man, but Iron Man 2 is going to have Whiplash and Black Widow. Maybe a combo of the Mandarin, the Leader, Loki, and Red Skull.

Hmmm....who do I want to see playing Namor...I am so not sure! He would have to look good in a speedo, and be a good swimmer...

@Babs:
Heard allot of people saying Luke Goss would be a good choice, he's certainly got the look for the part, might have bulk up a little though.
