Marvel Gives a Closer Look At Their 'Shattered Heroes'

Will the heroes survive the repercussions following 'Fear Itself'?

Yesterday we got our first look at 'Shattered Heroes,' Marvel's next big event launching this October. Today we get an image to go along with all that text and it is definitely interesting.

No Caption Provided

Marvel's biggest heroes have survived (well, most of them anyway) Fear Itself and have returned home. A little bumped, bruised and broken; but for the most part, together. But was the battle in Fear Itself too overwhelming for Marvel's heroes? Will they find the strength to go on together, as a team after burying their dead? Senior Vice President of Marvel Comics Tom Brevoort revealed that the heroes will be tested once again, and there is a good chance that their lives will change -- possibly for the worse.

== TEASER ==

“The war is over, and the warriors return home, carrying with them scars of battle, both physical and mental. Now the cost will be tallied, the casualties buried and mourned, the rubble swept up and carted away. But the damage to our heroes isn’t easily repaired, the wounds not easily healed. Decisions are made and lives are changed—can shattered heroes find renewed courage to go on?” – Tom Brevoort, SVP Executive Editor

Looking at the teaser for the image you'll see that Thor is definitely missing from the group, Hulk hasn't shaved in a while, and the heroes definitely look a little beat up. But who is the shadowy figure in the back? Are you looking forward to Marvel's 'Shattered Heroes' this October?

I had no clue Hulk was splitting. Is that happening in his last issue?

Answer: Yes.

Is there really any doubt about that?

No, but what else am I going to put there? You can imagine I am rolling my eyes as I type.

Babs, I'm not being critical of your article or your writing. My criticism is directed towards Marvel and their big events.

I wasn't offended, sweetie! I was sharing in your displeasure! :)

I didn't think you were criticizing what I wrote. :)

Looks like Cap's shield is going to have that scar for a little bit.  Or at least just for this promo image for the sake of the title because it seems to be gone in his new series.

Are you looking forward to Marvel's 'Shattered Heroes' this October?

No. Rather go bum-ass broke reacquainting myself with DC's New 52 instead of "another life-altering" event from Marvel. Wasn't this supposed to be the job of Decimation, Dark Reign, and the Heroic Age? I swear, these guys are running out of ideas faster than the US dollar's value is plummeting. Hey, here's a bright idea! How about no more of these events? How about for once, writing an event with Ed Brubaker at the helm? How about letting Jonathan Hickman writing this same kind of event? smh

Thank you for your brutal honesty. He's the main reason I have so much distaste for the Avengers, along with Bendis' monotomic writing.

I can almost hear the converstaion now ...
Marvel #1 - "Hey, Thor has been alive for what, 15 issues already?"
Marvel #2 - "Yep ..."
Marvel #1 - "Yea ..."
Marvel #2 - "Time to kill him off again?"
Marvel #1 - "Whew, about time. Give him the axe"

At least they let John Romita Jr. draw it, his 'art' is one of the few things in this, or the Marvel, universe which rival Fraction 'writing' in terms of pure cpsi ... Crap Per Square Inch.

Cap and Iron Man looks like the same drawing, just mirrored. I like big events so I am always excited, although I sort of wish they were a little less obvious about Thor.

"Hulk pity da fool!" Seriously lol. Now in my opinion, the entire event smacks nothing more being a "Fear Itself Aftermath" so they should really just call it that.  And once again, I'll say it: lets put big events to REST people.  Maybe once a year at least.  Its just too much otherwise. Good article though, Babs!

This has me wondering if this will be the pre-Maestro event for Hulk but for that to happen doesn't Banner have to be in there too?

It's just like Harry Potter:  The Deadly Hallows Part Two.  A bunch of tattered protagonists with dirt on their face for the entire event.  Also, the art is horrendous.

To all who says this is an Event. Do we know that for sure? By sounds of it, it is the mood in between events, like Dark Reign and heroic Age. Two Things that wernt events at all, just the title of the atmosphere the heroes are living in. Makes sence, things shouldnt just go back to normal after big events anyways. This is just the calm in between events.  As for the picture, I hate JRJR, so disappointed he is still drawing Avengers here. who is the guy in between Wolverine and Spider-man? And what if the black out character is Iron patriot? dark Avengers is returning right? Prob not him, but worth a guess. Really happy Ms. marvel is in the picture instead of Spider-woman! They need to make Ms. Marvel into their wonder woman and now! ha ha
Yeah I heard it wasn't an event, more like a branding like Dark Reign and Heroic Age like you mentioned.  I can't remember how long Heroic Age was on covers for, like six months or so?  I imagine this Shattered Heroes label being on there for about the same amount of time.

caps' shield is whole again huh??......seems like the hulk vs. dracula one shot will actually introduce some new characters and might even explain why this pic of hulk looks the way it does. and i dont get why everyone is having a cow over this being another event and so soon after fear itself. this will be more like Dark Reign was; its just gonna be a banner on a bunch of their regular titles. sure, there'll be one-shots and minis to go along w/ it i'm sure, but this seems to be more of a state of affairs in the MU than a huge event w/ any kind of direct ramifications to be had. hopefully they dont crap the bed on this. i just havent been feelin Fear Itself so much. not that its so so bad, but the writing is a bit "off" and the pencils, while solid, dont tickle my pickle in any pleasurable way....seems like it would been a better story if it was a Thor epic story contained w/in his pages and Journey Into Mystery's book (which i'vew been liking due to kid loki). i will get off the soapbox now. *exits stage left*

I'm sick of this. Marvel's events aren't interesting, nor do they have proper consequences or even interesting aftermaths. If you're gonna kill people, do it in bulk like Blackest Night, at least! All kidding aside though, Marvel just isn't cutting it enough for me to switch from buying DC. Also, I'm DEFINITELY not buying Marvel 'til they change the price tag....to make it lower, not higher.

I can't remember the last time I bought a marvel comic or wanted to. This looks like such a mess from the outside.

DC is trimming itself down and putting Grant Morrison and Scott Snyder in charge of Batman and Superman. What does Marvel do? Flail around from one lifeless event to the next.

they both suck donkey dick.  Fear Itself had a couplt of okay tie-in but was just one loooooong ass stupide boring story and I don't care how it ends.  It looked lame from the start.  Flashpoint tho sucked everywhere.  They had the chance at DC getting it's own AOA and dropped the ball so bad it killed the whole company as a whole.  I can hope hope hope that the revamp will be good, but from the looks of it, I have my doubts.  Popped out collars.  Needless changes to outfits just so DC can say they changed the outfits.  Charters gone.  Who would have ever thought the most exciting thing coming in the future would be....................................................Ultimate Marvel.

What I want to know is, what the hell happened to The Mighty?  They teased it awhile back but I never recall news about them delivering on it.  And this is what those word-pictures were leading up to?  The aftermath of Fear Itself?  Dissapointed, seriously dissapointed.  Not going to outright stop buying Marvel(they still have SOME good series), but this really makes me shake my head.  Add the crap they're pulling lately, and this almost makes me ashamed to be one of their fans.

Seriously Marvel slow down on the number of events. They're supposed to be major events and if you keep piling them on, there's nothing special about them.

I really like flashpoint, then again I didn't read many DC books before flashpoint. I just sorta picked it up, but when I did I found it much more enjoyable than fear itself. At least it didn't kill Bucky off with little to no coverage and it might even kill Thor off which honestly makes flashpoint a heck better series in my mind. Also, language.

I think he was talking about Leir, he is a character who is the Celtic God of Thunder but he is based off of Lir  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lir) who in Irish Mythology is a Sea God.

@spiderbat87: Yes, I know. But all I meant was in actual Celtic Mythology Taranis is the God of Thunder but there is a Celtic God of Thunder, which is a Marvel character called Leir, but in actual Irish Mythology Lir, is the God of the Sea. So it is easy to get confused with two Celtic Gods of Thunder in Marvel comics.

1.  WHY oh WHY is Romita Jr. still working?!  His art SUCKS.  His characters always look so ridge and boxlike with too many lines so half the time their skin looks mummified.  Seriously people, stop giving the guy work!

2.  Yawn.  Another big event, right after Fear Itself.  What a surprise.  Really Marvel?  No wonder most of your books aren't that great anymore, there's no time to focus on character development and other plotlines when you're throwing huge event after huge event at us.  Can't they give it a rest for at least a year or so?  At least DC does that.
