Marvel Gives a Closer Look At Their 'Shattered Heroes'

Will the heroes survive the repercussions following 'Fear Itself'?

Yesterday we got our first look at 'Shattered Heroes,' Marvel's next big event launching this October. Today we get an image to go along with all that text and it is definitely interesting.

Marvel's biggest heroes have survived (well, most of them anyway) Fear Itself and have returned home. A little bumped, bruised and broken; but for the most part, together. But was the battle in Fear Itself too overwhelming for Marvel's heroes? Will they find the strength to go on together, as a team after burying their dead? Senior Vice President of Marvel Comics Tom Brevoort revealed that the heroes will be tested once again, and there is a good chance that their lives will change -- possibly for the worse.

== TEASER ==

“The war is over, and the warriors return home, carrying with them scars of battle, both physical and mental. Now the cost will be tallied, the casualties buried and mourned, the rubble swept up and carted away. But the damage to our heroes isn’t easily repaired, the wounds not easily healed. Decisions are made and lives are changed—can shattered heroes find renewed courage to go on?” – Tom Brevoort, SVP Executive Editor

Looking at the teaser for the image you'll see that Thor is definitely missing from the group, Hulk hasn't shaved in a while, and the heroes definitely look a little beat up. But who is the shadowy figure in the back? Are you looking forward to Marvel's 'Shattered Heroes' this October?

hmm they all need a good bath and a holiday to Hawaii. The mystery guy in the back looks bald?

Curious as to where Hulk got his bling from?

Posted by Chaos Burn

damn, its the artist that draws everyone as rectangles....

Posted by Golden Cod

Does anyone else think that this image is decidedly boring and ambiguous?   It looks like everyone is following Tony but nothing else is going on.   And Hulk looks like he's in a pseudo- Maestro phase.

Dear Lord,Why John Romita Jr, why? :(

Is that Tarturus, the 'new' Thor, in the back?

Posted by Blizaga101

whats happening with the Mighty, when do they show up?
Posted by Dernman

Hey looks like CA has his shield back. Who is that guy behind Wolverine? The guy behind Spiderman looks like a cross between the new god of thunder and Juggernaut.

Posted by labarith

Tony's... uh... reoccuring problem... gives him something to do in his ongoing book, I guess.  Let's just hope it doesn't stay.

Hulk?  He's getting split soon, so I have no idea what that's about.

Thor's replacement is boring,  But whatev.  When we do Thor Corps, we'll need him. :P

Oh, alright. Thanks.

We've already seen this teaser though? I hope this means Valkyrie is getting more spotlight

Posted by Fluke-buddha

Mystery guy looks like Cage, but why would they bother to black him out of the image?  He's definitely bald, maybe it's Absorbing Man, lol.

Posted by djotaku

cool!  I was right it's the Fear Itself aftermath.  Too bad I didn't care about FI.  I don't know how much I care for these constant events, though.  They need a break.

Posted by PrinceIMC

Who's the guy between Wolverine and Spider-man?

Posted by Cafeterialoca
@PrinceIMC: New guy from a team called "The Forgiven"
The team looks like it's all vampires.

Let's hear it for another big event.

Given that we were supposed to be in the Heroic Age, it sure seems like SSND at Marvel.

I think it's skaar actually, unless Hulk's hair got longer...

Posted by ninjadude853

Oh my god ENOUGH WITH THE EVENTS.

Seriously Marvel, just slow the hell down, it's hard to take these big events seriously when they HAPPEN TWICE A YEAR.

"Will the heroes survive the repercussions following 'Fear Itself'?"

Answer: Yes.

Is there really any doubt about that? Characters die and are reborn so often and Marvel's heroes survive through so many MEGA-ULTIMATE-CATACLYSMIC-"THE WORLD WILL BE CHANGED FOREVER" events, that I'm sure this one won't be any different.

I asked that everyday too, but the Lord keeps saying "thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's penciler".

Who is that guy behind Hulk? I don't recognize him.

No, but what else am I going to put there? You can imagine I am rolling my eyes as I type.

I wonder if the writers that get affected by these major crossovers get as annoyed as I imagine they would.  I can only imagine the editor's meetings are like:

Okay January through March is Heroes On the Run crossover, so we'll tell you what to write.
April and May you can go back to regular stories
June through August is a as of yet unnamed random Thor inspired crossover
September through November you can write
December, don't forget your holiday issues...

Freakin' Marvel.

why is Hulk wearing gold chains?   and why does Romita still draw people like geometric figures with eyes?   it's getting kind of eerie.

Posted by Kid_Zombie

To all who says this is an Event. Do we know that for sure? By sounds of it, it is the mood in between events, like Dark Reign and heroic Age. Two Things that wernt events at all, just the title of the atmosphere the heroes are living in. Makes sence, things shouldnt just go back to normal after big events anyways. This is just the calm in between events.

As for the picture, I hate JRJR, so disappointed he is still drawing Avengers here. who is the guy in between Wolverine and Spider-man? And what if the black out character is Iron patriot? dark Avengers is returning right? Prob not him, but worth a guess. Really happy Ms. marvel is in the picture instead of Spider-woman! They need to make Ms. Marvel into their wonder woman and now! ha ha

@The Velvet Rabbit: Because he cannot draw.  He is only popular because of who his dad was.  The man cannot draw to save his life.  All of his panels look the same, and all of his art is the exact same.  He has no real style.

Babs, I'm not being critical of your article or your writing. My criticism is directed towards Marvel and their big events.

Mr H pities the fools who don't know him from the H-Team.

Will ever Marvel give us a break with J.Romita Jr. drawings? He screw a few good comics and this story continues...

I can see how you can take what I said offensively, though, and I apologise. I just haven't been clear enough lately.

To sum-up the subtext of what I said: I just think that conflict is at the heart of good drama, and given that deaths rarely stick and things tend to return to the status quo after one of Marvel's major events, it's hard for me to take Marvel's big events seriously. Mainly, they just leave me feeling fatigued and a little bitter.

Hmmm does Hulk remind anyone else of a certain someone?

Posted by KainScion

maybe we cant see the guy in the back cuz hes someone we immediately identify but somethin happened to him and they dont want to spoil it. my money on cage with an eye-patch or a scar.

Edited by sladewilson30

There is someone in the back that it doesn't show, who is that? Anyways, Tarturus is not the celtic counterpart to Thor, Leir is the celtic counterpart to Thor, look it up.
