Marvel Considering Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd for 'Ant-Man'

The two actors are allegedly main contenders for Edgar Wright's superhero film!

There's been a whole lot of speculation over who the lead will be in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, and now Variety claims they may have the answer. According to the website, Marvel wants Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd to fill Ant-Man's boots, claiming they're the front-runners for Marvel Studios' film. Variety reports there's a "remote possibility" another individual could land the role, but as of right now, these two are apparently the "main contenders."

Ant-Man is directed by Edgar Wright and currently scheduled to hit theaters July 31, 2015. Viners, if it does indeed come down to these two, who would you want to see get the role and why? Speak your mind below!

My vote, JGL!

I think Wright is going for an Action/Comedy film. Rudd has the Comedy side but he doesn't fit the Action. So, go JGL!

Paul Rudd would be an excellent choice.

Looks like JGL is the only white actor and Jamie Foxx the only black actor in Hollywood.

Well, it's not the ant-man we know, so I don't really care, but why incorporate the actor who played "robin" in the Dark Knight Rises, wouldn't it be confusing for spectators ?

Posted by Falconer

Those are weird ways to spell Nathan Fillion...

But seriously. As much as I like Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man is one of my favorite movies), I think he's too old? (even though he's younger than RDJ) Or maybe it's because I've never seen him in anything other than a comedy? I dunno, but either way he doesn't feel right. With that being said, Jiggle gets it by default. I don't know jack about Ant-Man, but I'm A-okay with JGL being an Avengers star.

Paul Rudd? It sounds dumb at first but actually maybe not...

Posted by Extremis

@madeinbangladesh: lol yeah Hollywood is super trendy with actors and typecasting them. I mean if they want to be edgy, why not Simon Pegg as Ant-Man? If you're going to go Edgar Wright for this movie, Marvel, why not go all the way?

Posted by Kerrigan

Gordon-Levitt is the better actor. Go with him.

Saw this a few days back. Jamie Bell as a contender? Probably for the role of a young Lang http://www.superheromoviesnews.com/2013/10/rumor-jamie-bell-is-our-possible-ant-man.html

Save JGL for more DC stuff! :P

JGL Would be a great choice and don't forget put Wasp in the movie Edgar Wright!

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Hmmm, if I had to pick the two I'd go for Paul Rudd, who's a more experienced actor.

Posted by ArtisticNeedham

I'd go with Paul Rudd, but honestly either would be great.

I really just want someone chosen before the Avengers 2 comes out so maybe they can squeeze him into the plot. Have him create Ultron.

Posted by CheeseSticks

I love how Marvel always pick perfect actor for their characters, but DC are always screwing their movie cast.

Posted by lolzstastic

Paul Rudd wouldn't be a bad choice at all.

Posted by HexThis

Paul Rudd. Joseph Gordon-Levitt doesn't have a definite presence when he's in a movie, he doesn't engage the audience enough.

Edited by AmazingWebHead

I guess I'd go with Paul Rudd, but I'd go with Russell Brand if it meant the movie would get here some time this eternity!

Posted by Spideysense44

Joseph Gordon Levitt would be a great pick, but Paul Rudd has the look. I kind of wanted Nathan Fillon but any of these actors can do the job. Great choices Marvel :)

Posted by Night Thrasher

JGL is probably the best choice but I wouldn't be mad at Paul Rudd. This might be the Thor of the Phase Two movies for me. Meaning I'm not expecting too much but will probably be one of favorites of the bunch.

What a dick face.

@cheesesticks: Ben Affleck proves you wrong.. And Ben Affleck proves you right.

Edited by CheeseSticks

@darkseid_prime: I am talking recently, Daredevil was a long time ago.

The cast from The Dark Knight trilogy was pretty good. Matt Damon has MM or Aquaman and Ryan Reynolds as GL... not so much.

Marvel have perfect actor for their recent and upcoming movies

Edited by Fallschirmjager

If I have to pick between the two, I pick JGL every time.

Although, I don't think he's a good fit.

Paul Rudd would just be horribad.

...yeah Matt Damon isn't either one of those characters so what's your point?

I love JGL dude is an affiable and charismatic mofo, I just don't see him goin in deep with a entity like Disney.

Paul Rudd on the other hand I could see doing that I just think of him as the alloff protag in comedies to much.

Ant-Man is weird and honestly won't care until I see a trailer.

Posted by CheeseSticks

@fallschirmjager: He's wanted by DC for one of the two roles. There's big rumors around him playing one of these two. I guess we will have to wait and see, but if it's true, it's definitely a bad cast.

Cast Morena Baccarin as Wasp and we will have a great cast on our hands. Not to mention she has worked with Whedon on Firefly, which was a great TV show

Says who?

And rumors mean nothing anyway.. DC's short list for Batman was suppose to be Brolin, Goode, Armitage..etc None of them ended up being the pick.

i wouldnt pick either but of the two paul rudd looks more like hank pym. if they go for the o'grady character mr. levitt fits him. i dont see marvel going with rudd though because he is known for comedy and his box office track record isnt that great. but glad they finally casting the film

@perfect_10: Hoping since they are looking at Ruud doesn't mean they are going to try and make this a comedy type movie :\

Randomest choices. I think Marvel just tries to find big stars to draw even more attention to their movies. On what basis do they think these guys can play a genius scientist? Personally I think they're both bad choices and either one would turn me off of the movie.

On the topic of randomness, make Ryan Gosling Aquaman. That is all.

That who I would have picked...........

@judasnixon:

Yea she has the look and everything Marvel would be krazy to pick otherwise

rudd mos def

Posted by tquinn

sweet jeebus, either would be awesome. i'm kinda leaning towards Paul Rudd. Don't get me wrong, JGL is an amazing actor, but a sacastic Paul Rudd Ant man would be genius

Posted by SynCig

I really hope it isn't JGL. I would much rather he play a different character if he is going to be cast as a super hero. I am not a fan of Ant-Man.

Posted by SynCig

@cheesesticks: I don't agree with that. The Dark Knight Trilogy had a great cast and Man of Steel was perfectly cast in my opinion. Green Lantern was definitely an example of how not to cast a movie but I don't think that proves DC is bad at casting necessarily. With that being said, I do think that Marvel has nailed the casting of a great majority of their roles.

Posted by nappystr8

With Hank Pym most likely out of the equation, I'm considerably less excited about casting for Ant-Man. I think Paul Rudd would be a great choice, he's funny enough to hold his own in this Avengers jokeyverse they've got going on and he could believably pull off being a scientist if the role calls for it. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is really overexposed right now, but I'm sure he'd be good if they cast him. Or, y'know, don't rule out Simon Pegg.

Edited by DaltonMunnal

I really want Simon Pegg, but Paul Rudd would be a totally unexpected, yet awesome choice. I wouldn't like JGL for this rule though. Good actor, but not for the part.

Edited by Colmillo_Senpai

Paul is the best option, and Ewan Mcgregor is the dream option.

Edited by RageEx2

@extremis: Simon Pegg is the opposite of edgy haha

Posted by BigL

JGL is the better actor but for this role I'd prefer Paul Rudd. JGL should play someone else, not sure who though...

Posted by MartianManhunterIsBetterThanCyborg

I would much rather see an Atom movie....

Posted by GothamRed

Out of those 2 paul rudd, his look and delivery just fit better for what I think of when I think of Hank Pym. JGL look is more cop than scientist.

Posted by LCazT1996

I'm definitely okay with JGL being Ant-Man. Haven't seen enough of Rudd to know.

This xD

Nathan Fillion is a weird way to spell Patrick Wilson. Of course, the joke is on me because I love them both.

The weird thing about THIS is that you probably cannot get two actors further apart. Rudd just doesn't seem like Pym for an infinite number of reasons and Gordon-Levitt just seems too young and doesn't fit the part.

Posted by Miss_Garrick

I'll only watch if the Wasp is in this. Other than that, I don't care who they get for the role as long as it ISN'T Ewan McGregor, Nathan Fillion, or any other cool actor. Why waste good actors like them on someone like Hank Pym?

Type Matt Damon and Aquaman, you'll have 20 website talking about it. Matt Damon is interest into joining the cast and DC is also interest in Damon.

That's why i said in my previous post that the Dark Knight trilogy cast was nearly perfect. I can agree on MoS, but GL and the cast for the upcoming JL movie is really disappointing IMO.
