Marvel Celebrates 50 Years of X-MEN with BATTLE OF THE ATOM

Past, present and future X-Men will come together this Fall.

The X-Men have been around for fifty years now. That's pretty crazy. To mark this occasion, Marvel is giving you three times the X-Men this Fall, sort of. If you've been following the current X-titles, ALL-NEW X-MEN and UNCANNY X-MEN in particular, you know that Hank McCoy, aka Beast, brought the original X-Men from the past into the present in order to stop the adult Cyclops from destroying the human race. Because mucking about with time is bad, we'll see future versions come to the present to try to straighten things out.

X-MEN: BATTLE OF THE ATOM comes from Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Brian Wood, Frank Cho, Stuart Immonen, Chris Bachalo, David Lopez and Giuseppe Camuncoli.

“If All-New X-Men #1 was the shot heard round the world, X-Men Battle Of The Atom is Valley Forge,” explained Nick Lowe, Senior Editor, Marvel Entertainment. “And there’s no group of creators I’d rather go to war with than Brian [Bendis], Jason [Aaron] and Brian [Wood]. And that doesn’t even mention the murderer’s row of artists.”

Hank McCoy brought the original X-Men into the present in the hopes of changing the course of history and stopping Scott Summer’s mutant revolution before it even begins. But as the young and confused X-Men try to cope with their devastating futures, the team begins to unravel from the inside. And just as mutant civil war is about to hit it’s boiling point, an unexpected third party comes in to change the game—the future X-Men! They’ve traveled back in time with a warning—the original X-Men need to go back to their rightful time or they will be the final nail in mutantkind’s coffin. They risked everything to come to the past and won’t leave until the All-New X-Men are back in the past. It’s monumental! It’s earth-shattering! It’s X-Men: Battle of the Atom!

Beginning in September and ending in October, this 10-part weekly event is not one any fan can miss:

• Part 1: X-Men Battle of the Atom #1

• Part 2: All-New X-Men #16

• Part 3: X-Men #5

• Part 4: Uncanny X-Men #12

• Part 5: Wolverine & The X-Men #36

• Part 6: All-New X-Men #17

• Part 7: X-Men # 6

• Part 8: Uncanny X-Men #13

• Part 9: Wolverine & The X-Men #37

• Part 10: X-Men: Battle of The Atom #2

Don’t miss out on the event of the season! Who will become unlikely allies? What is S.H.I.E.L.D.’s master plan? What are the consequences for altering time and space? Most importantly, what will determine the fate of our favorite superheroes? This fall, all will be revealed in X-Men: Battle of the Atom!

Beyond excited for this! Love how the X-Men are returning to their old vibe, like back from the glory days.

Looks awesome can't wait.

O_O Actually really happy I read all these titles to begin with so I don't need to add stuff to my pull list to accommodate this event.

I'm in!

the covers do look cool ,

Already picking up all these on-going titles and loving them! Two more books in my roughly 30+ a week pull-list isn't too bad, lol. Count me in!

Somewhere out there Cyclops fans are crying.

Sounds like Age of Ultron Cyclops to me. No, thanks!

Time travel/dark future/alternate universe stories have always been bread & butter for the X-Men. It's given us some great arcs and some great characters. It's also been done so much that every time they go back to that well it feels old hat. Kind of like the Phoenix. Oh well.

Still curious about who's on the future team. Have they released an official list? Looks like Iceman, Beast, I'm guessing Molly Hayes, and then I can't tell from that image. Who is gun guy? Is female Xorn from the future? Is that wolverine from the future?

EDIT: A rundown from newsarama states:

… include a Wolverine offspring with (potentially) blue skin and red hair, a female Xorn, an Ice Hulk and/or Thing, Deadpool in some shape or form, someone resembling Professor X, Old Beast and an adult version of Molly Hayes from Runaways.

… the future X-Men will be led by the older Kitty Pryde from the classic "Days of Future Past" storyline

The hood guy is Deadpool. They actually did release a list of the characters and yes, the concept design had her listed as "Xorna" and one of them is future Wolverine.

OMG THAT ART IS AWESOME

I know the X-Men are his current baby, but I feel like Bendis writes everything...

So looking forward to this. These type of X-Men crossovers usually don't disappoint, and I hope that continues with this.

X-Men are 50! AWESOME!

Still not sure if I'm going to read this. I'm reading X-Men vol. 4, but none of the others.

Pretty excited about reading this. And the cover to Uncanny X-Men by Bachalo gave me life.....

Posted by akbogert

It's pretty convenient to already be following 3 of the 4 books that the crossover will incorporate, for sure.

I will say, though, that as thrilled as I am to be seeing any Runaways love these days, I'm very conflicted over this future Molly Hayes. I really hope I can appreciate her, because she's absolutely one of my favorite characters. If not...shame, but I guess she is an alternate future version, so I can just write her off as not really Molly Hayes.

WHOOOO!

I'm not an X-Men fan..but this looks pretty neat.

Posted by CellphoneGirl

If that is Pixie standing with Cyclops then where the hell are her wings? Or is that someone else?

Also I'm soooo going to read this! I love Runaways with all my heart so I'm interested to see what they do with this version of Molly. I wonder who this female Xorn will be?

Posted by lifeboy

I need an art work like that of white queen sprawled out for my man cave.. lol

Posted by akbogert

@cellphonegirl: I assumed that was Young Jean. Could be wrong though; with Bachalo it's sometimes hard to differentiate between the ladies.

Edited by CellphoneGirl

@akbogert: Oh I could see that now! It's hard to tell what the exact hair color is :P

Looks fun, and maybe this will help kickstart Wolvie and the X-men into more interesting ground, as it's been treading water for a while now. The Bendis X-books have been mostly pretty cool so far (although he remains oddly incapable of writing both Frost and Illyana).

Looking back over the books, that particular pairing seems to be a common theme, so I actually think it definitely is Jean. There are several covers with Young Jean with Young Scott, and then that one has her with current Scott.

This new mutant era is almost making me to forgive Scott Lobdell.

look good, I wonder if there going to be some civil war thing

will be getting all issues. i wish i could wait till trade for this but that long would be hard

Edited by ChocolateFrogs

This better be good because I plan on buying every issue.

I'm excited for Battle of the Atom. But I see its the return of a pet peeve of mine. I hate it when a multi part story like this is told by several different writers across several different books. It often feels disjointed because of continuity flubs that almost always pop up between issues.

XORN!!!!

@kidkhaos21: Just wanted to make sure. It would have been a shame if it was Pixie with forgotten wings. I've seen it happen before LOL

Future Wolverine or future progeny of Wolverine? The nrama article I edited into my previous post implies the latter.

Or is it two characters--both of them? I guess it seems weird to have a time-traveling Logan in both major arcs.

@cellphonegirl: @akbogert:

Glad I saw your posts. I thought it was Shadowcat until you pointed out it's probably Jean. It doesn't help that her costume looks "modern" generic X-Men instead of classic generic X-Men.

Progeny. His concept work just stated he was "wolverine junior"

Gotcha. I appreciate the clarification.

Looks like I'm gonna have to get Wolverine & the X-Men

I'm in the same boat. I dropped Wolverine and the X-Men during the Frankenstein arc. Guess it's time to put it back on my pull list.

Please don't screw this up. Please don't screw this up. Please don't screw this up.

Finger's crossed.

Molly Hayes... I'm there!

So xcited for this. Xmen are the best thing going right now in Marvel besides hawkeye and daredevil

Posted by Miss_Garrick

Wait, it's the 50th anniversary, but Chris Claremont is NOT involved?!? Why should I even look at this then?
