Marvel Announces Wolverine has "3 Months to Die!"

This June, Marvel has some big plans for Logan.

No Caption Provided

New York, NY – March 14th, 2014 – Strap in for a gut-wrenching, blood soaked tale of betrayal, vengeance and a hero’s death as 3 MONTHS TO DIE kicks off this June in WOLVERINE #8! All culminating in a grisly September finale that will have the whole world on the edge of their seat!

Friend. Teacher. X-Man. Avenger. Assassin. Hero. The man called Logan has worn many faces and lived many lives. Tortured by the horrors of his past, Logan has spent the better part of his life on a path to redemption.

But all paths eventually end. And there will be no happy ending for the Wolverine. Left without his healing factor, the invulnerable killing machine has found himself mortal for the first time in his long life. And as past sins come back to haunt him – he’ll have to pay the ultimate price.

"If the title sounds ominous, it's for a good reason," says Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. "What will be waiting for readers in September, when '3 Months to Die' is over? Let's just say, it's going to be the buzz of the comics world."

Alienated and alone with no X-Men to protect him, a killable Wolverine prepares to make his final stand. Deadly forces are closing in, and time is almost up. What will become of the Wolverine? And what does the Marvel Universe look like without him in it? Nothing lasts forever, and the beginning of the end starts this June in WOLVERINE #8!

The clock is ticking. Wolverine has 3 MONTHS TO DIE!

Let's come up with ridiculous Cornell Wolverine plots:

"Logan has had a hard life, but it's about to get much worse: He's going back to High school! After a spell cast by Loki, Wolverine is now 16 years old. He'll have to adjust not only to being mortal, but being an achne ridden awkward teenager! Coming soon: Wolverine - De-Aged"

"After losing his healing factor, Logan's beer chugging and pizza eating days are quickly catching up to him. Get ready next September for Wolverine: Fat! Jubilee will play a role in whipping him back into shape, but will it be easy? Find out soon!"

"Wolverine has been many things: Assassin, Avenger, X Man, Soldier.....but is he ready to enter the world of Adult Contemporary pop music? Coming soon, Wolverine: Adult Contempo Artist!"

"Logan is the best there is at what he does, and that thing has always been a secret to the World: Knitting! But what will happen to Logan when his sewing machine is stolen? Coming soon, Wolverine: Sweater Maker!"

This is fun.

Not that i care much for logan... but this would have been a great chance to make interested in him. This is a big miss of an opportunity to show that the superhero isn't all about his superpower and is still badass without them. For example when ben grimm lost his power in good old days, or spider man did, or supermans one year later, they all showed how all them didnt start sucking because of losing their powers. None of them moped or whine about that. Hell even things like He-Man and Power Rangers have shown how the heroes are still heroes. That is why when they get their powers back it feels good because then it feels like they earned the powers back. Hell, i remember a comic with the marvel knight where daredevil and team was stuck in some dimension where Matts was rendered powerless.. and was just a blind guy. But he still managed to lead the team.

This gimmick of killing of characters need to stop. This is just lazy writing. Just usage of the word "die" in their marketing makes me wanna drop this.
Ugh.. I miss the good old days with actual original crisis.

The plot sounds a lot like that god-aweful movie from a few months ago.

So when Marvel runs out of ideas for characters they just kill them off for a few months :-/

This is the problem with comic franchises being around for so many years. Eventually, they will run out of ideas.

Again... I don't see the point of this Superior Wolverine gimmick

I don't get how losing his healing power makes him any less invincible, Every marvel hero seems to have a unspoken healing power that helps them survive injuries which would kill a normal person.

Also the second wolverine lost his healing power, his skeleton would of killed him

I know I'm not the only one to think this, but I've wanted Wolverine dead for ages. He's a decent character, but he's just too overused. Admittedly, he's taken slightly less of a centre stage since he left X-Force, and he doesn't seem to be showing up much in Avengers, but the point remains valid.

Killing him off for a while (let's face it, no one stays dead forever where Marvel's concerned) would be a great way to shake things up a bit. For example, the books focusing on the Jean Grey School/ Xavier Institute would be massively affected, probably with Storm and Beast taking over full time as Headmistress and Headmaster. Likewise, it would be interesting to see what would happen on the Wolverine books. Perhaps X-23 could take over in a Legacy style? Or maybe it could become a team book ; X-23 recruiting characters like Daken and Sabertooth and others working together on Wolverine's unfinished business. And, for die-hard Wolverine fans, they could keep Savage Wolverine running as normal, because it's set in its own continuity (as far as I'm aware).

If Wolverine was still okay mentally like he was other times he has lost the healing factor, he would get a strong majority over Shang Chi in a H2H fight. Shang is entirely unimpressive in terms of actual feats, and is solely hype.

I respectfully disagree, although I do see Wolverine as the better martial artist out of experience and knowledge. A de-powered Wolverine, who's at peace of mind (which he clearly hasn't been in his recent series) would probably still beat Shang-Chi, but I see it as a drawn out fight and not like their first encounter. However, to take on both Shang and Danny at the same time? At least he'll be "dying" with some impressive accolades...

If it's any consolation, I'm sure they won't keep him under for very long. And maybe all of this and the past year of (in my opinion) incredibly poor writing for Wolverine would have been just one lengthy bad dream...

Yeah, I can agree with Shang being able to give Wolverine a very good fight unlike their tussle from the 90s. It's just that all this madness around Wolverine has me a bit riled up :D

A dream, eh? That would honestly just be the perfect way to let this gimmicky stuff fade into obscurity.

@frochez: I agree that Wolverine is in way too many books, but killing him off is sort of a cheap exit - especially since we know with absolute certainty that he's not going to stay dead. The problem is that because of Wolverine's popularity, writers have seemingly decided it would be lucrative to tack him onto titles that he really has no business being in. And this has been going on for a while - from his utterly pointless guest appearances in the 90s such as with Heroes for Hire, to popping up with no explanation in Shadowland (which was a disgusting mess on its own), to Hickman's Avengers where he's literally done nothing. Frankly, the comic scene is saturated by his presence, which is unfortunate because they've consequentially diluted his character and appeal.

Let's hope it will last about a year. It will be a nice change of pace not seeing his face everywhere.

That could be said about every major comic character.

Not really, do you compare Green Lantern's, Green Arrow's or Wonder Woman's panel time to Wolverine's?

In terms of popularity, I really don't know why any of those three aforementioned characters are comparable to Wolverine. They aren't marketing machines like he is. He's more comparable to other over exposed super heroes like Batman, Superman, etc.

Wonder Woman could be. Not sure why Green Lantern or Green Arrow are mentioned though..

Green Lantern is bigger money maker than Wonder Woman.

Yup.

I say good riddance. Ya'll heard me right. Till new creative power can tap oh so many possibly awesome stories with this character ... I say good riddance.

A depowered Wolverine should not be winning against Iron Fist and SHang Chi

Cornell's Wolverine could barely stave off Batroc - a depowered Jubilee could probably take him. So, yeah. It's not just the "depowered" thing, it's the complete eradication of all aspects of his character that made him, once upon a time, bad@ss.

Kill him ... if only to wipe the Cornell crap off the floor. I just hope they don't bring him back by going the "oh look, it was just a Skrull imposter / Sinister Clone this whole time which is why he was a mental fruitcake shooting innocent reporters in the head" type deal.

Is this kinda gonna be like what DC used to do with Crises that they would use to fix a bunch of things wrong at the time? If it is, then they're probably doing it due to fans' complaints about Wolverine right now (exposure and being "too powerful"). Well, that's good, because people will probably appreciate him more after this and not doing nothing but hate him like they are now.

I'm actually happy. because this gives dc an edge in movie making. and for the marvel cinematic i think are going to get ruined. i mean it's disney. they are terrible with sequels. disney are the least trust worthy company. plus they are terrible with video games. all disney care about is money.they are probably going to ruin marvel. and i don't really care about star wars but to you star wars fans out there sry but disney will ruin it. also frozen and wreck it ralf sucked. He's been written horribly lately and so some time off from him and his hypocritical ways is much needed. That said why kill him when we all know it wont stick. If there are no good ideas for him put him in a coma or something and revive him later, but dont kill him and make a mockery of a character "death". Its so stupid.

Maybe they can play the long story by having Daken impersonate Wolverine and infiltrate the Xmen (oh wait Bendis is doing that with Mystique-Dazzler....nevermind)

I guess Beast will go back in time and bring to the future/present.

We all know he will be alive, look at JGS in the future. He's there and he's still got to have a kid with Mystique, right? lol. Again So Stupid!!!
