Green Lantern has to be a big movie.  It has to be done right.  Since Warner Bros. doesn't have any other big superhero movies on deck, there will be some pressure on director Martin Campbell to make Hal Jordan into the next big screen movie hero.  Based on the powers of the Green Lanterns, there's no question that this will be a very visually enhanced movie.

The Coventry Telegraph has reported on some of the challenges that Campbell will be facing.

It's daunting. Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly.

From [his] ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane.

It's good to hear that Hal will be making constructs with his ring.  The tricky part will be making them so that it doesn't come across as cheap special fx.  One of the good things about production moving out of Australia (since the Austrailian dollar has been rising) and into New Orleans is there is a good tax rate there.  By saving money in that area, more can be used to make sure the visuals are top notch.

Campbell also says he's hoping we'll see a type of hero that we haven't seen before.

He's the only superhero to my knowledge who regularly goes to another planet. Superman and Batman were essentially locked into a particular city. The Lantern isn't so Earthbound.

Who's starting to get excited over this movie?
