Mark Waid takes DAREDEVIL from Print to Infinite Comics

DAREDEVIL will now be continuing in a Digital-Only Infinite Comics series.

You may have heard some rumblings about DAREDEVIL ending. How could that be? Mark Waid's series has been loved by pretty much everyone, right? It didn't make any sense for it to end.

It turns out DAREDEVIL #36 will not be Mark Waid's final Daredevil issue. Marvel has announced DAREDEVIL: ROAD WARRIOR following in the footsteps of other Infinite Comics such as WOLVERINE: JAPAN'S MOST WANTED and IRON MAN: FATAL FRONTIER. The series will be designed to take advantage of the technological opportunities.

Acclaimed Daredevil writer Mark Waid teams with artist Peter Krause to take Matt Murdock on a brand new journey full of adventure, excitement, and more than a few dangers! Launching the week after Daredevil #36, the final issue of Waid’s and artist Chris Samnee’s award-winning series –Daredevil: Road Warrior finds the Man Without Fear beginning his coast-to-coast journey from the Big Apple to sunny California!

“Matt's beginning a whole new chapter in his life following the events of Daredevil #36, and he's excited but apprehensive at the same time,” Waid said in an interview with Marvel.com. “You can be a Man Without Fear and still be a little worried about where the next paycheck is coming from. Daredevil: Road Warrior is a coast-to-coast adventure/chase with thrills aplenty.”

Is the west coast a new beginning for the Man Without Fear? Or can you take the crimefighter out of the city – but never the city out of the crimefighter? Find out as Daredevil begins his grand journey this February in Daredevil: Road Warrior!

Available right at your fingertips, these new Infinite Comics will be available for purchase this February on the Marvel Comics app (for iPhone®, iPad®, iPod Touch® & AndroidTM devices) and online in the Marvel Digital Comics Shop!

Not surprised to see Waid take Daredevil digital, as Infinite Comics is pretty much his baby and all. I am surprised that Daredevil will not have a print series, hadn't heard about that yet. I agree that a new series is probably upcoming, but it's somewhat surprising that nothing has been announced yet if it will pick up immediately after Vol. 3 ends. I guess March is a ways off.

It won't be for multiple decades. But at sometime in my life, I assume all comics will go exclusively digital. I wonder if when that happens; if I'll continue reading or not.

haha this is kind of funny to read. I don't have to much exposure to digital comics, aside from the few that were released with the AvsX event.

I can see both sides of that argument, as I wasn't overly thrilled with the books, but they were a interesting way to read a comic. But to this point i have not seen a book that I wanted to follow in the digital only format as of yet.

Maybe this will be the one, as I can see there being potential with matt's abilities.

But I still prefer my comics in my hands, I'm old school like that

I don't even read Daredevil and this makes me mad. They are trying to move us to digital only; don't do it print readers!

Everyone! Relax. Like Dm225 said, do you really think DD will only be digital during his anniversary year? No, I do not have any insider information. I just feel all will be okay with the world. Until they officially state DD will not be in print forever, it's too early to start worrying.

No, I could not possibly disagree with you more. They can go ahead and make a print comic but now because I don't read comics digitally I'll be missing out on some of his story.

The readers need to let Marvel know how unhappy they are about this and have every right to do so. I have a pretty large collection of DD and have supported him a long time now and I hate this idea more than my words can truly express.

I ignored the Wolverine series because it didn't seem important but if this DD one is continuing his actual series then to force people to purchase his ongoing story digitally is a complete joke.

Whoever came up with this idea needs to get smacked around a bit 'till they come to their senses...

No matter how many extra features are packed into digital you can't flip back and forth between the pages of a tablet like you can a comic.

I'm guessing this story is going to bridge the gap between the end of Daredevil's current series and the start of a new volume as part of All-New Marvel Now, similar to how Jay & Silent Bob: Chasing Dogma bridged the gap between Jay & Silent Bob's appearances in the Chasing Amy and Dogma films.

Hopefully Marvel will do a $0.99 Daredevil sale on Comixology in conjunction with the launch of Daredevil: Road Warrior. That will definitely give me the impetus to catch up on this excellent series. I have fallen a few issues behind.

Looking forward to it.

*sigh* I'm confused why they'd do this. I figured print was doing better now but I guess Marvel doesn't care. Looks like I'll have another $2.99 to give to Image on a monthly basis.

I hate infinite comics and digital in general. I have a bunch of digital copies of my comics (the free digital downloads from Marvel) and I practically never read them. I rather pull out my print copy. Once in a great while I will go on a trip (so like...MAYBE once a year) and it's nice to not have to carry all the physical copies to read them. But 99.99999% of the time I read a printed copy.

And I tried reading the Infinite Comics thing for Guardians of the Galaxy, but it was terrible. I didn't even make it through ONE of them. I don't want to look at the same picture 7 or 8 times, just slightly tweaked. Terribly executed. Infinite Comics is almost as bad as Marvel's.....comic DVDs....or whatever you call them.

If the options were go digital or end the series then I'm glad they've gone digital. I'd rather read real comics, but I'd rather read Waid's DD anywhere than nowhere at all.

So, Infinite Comics are like motion comics?

@v_scarlotte_rose: They're not exactly motion comics, but I remember many of the scenes from the Guardians of the Galaxy ones were the same panel with new dialogue bubbles, minor body movements, and different facial expressions. The Guardians of the Galaxy character issues are free on Marvel.com to see what they're like.

I like reading digitally, but I'm getting really annoyed with the Infinite and DC2 formats. I find myself missing a lot dialog and having to go back because of a lot of subtle transitions. And in service to the transitions a lot of the page layouts tend to be awkward.

Are they going to collect this in hardcover or trade, later on, or are those Infinite Digital titles digital only? As a trade waiter, it wouldn't matter that much for me if single issues are paper or digital, as long as they put out a collection afterwards.

If this doesn't get collected, this would be really bad news! DD is one of my top 3 Marvel characters.

Anyway, i don't think that it will last very long. The negative response to this is so huge, they will change it back in a few months.

Given Mark Waid's constant praise of the digital medium, this isn't entirely surprising. I probably won't read it, however the concept is interesting.

This makes me very sad, and the concept is just weird. Daredevil is all about taking care of Hell's Kitchen, hes not a globe trotter. I will still collect it and support one of my all time favorite characters, but really they should keep the print series going and just add a second infinite series.

Why only let us have one Daredevil series when so many other characters have multiple series!?
