Mark Waid and Mark Bagley Smash into HULK #1

Who shot Bruce Banner? Things are about to change.

There's a new Hulk series. While we could complain about the fact that INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK is ending so we can have an adjective-less HULK title (once again), I say let's focus on how crazy and exciting this new arc/direction sounds. As with the other All-New Marvel Now comics, we have a new beginning/jumping on point. Mark Waid is still writing Hulk (very cool) and joining him is Mark Bagley (this should be interesting).

It all begins with the question, "Who shot Bruce Banner?"

Who shot Bruce Banner? Thatā€™s the question on everyoneā€™s mind this April when critically acclaimed creators Mark Waid and Mark Bagley smash into the epic, all-new HULK #1 ā€“ as part of the All-New Marvel NOW! initiative!

ā€œAs our series opens, Banner's at death's doorā€, says Waid. ā€œā€¦having learned something about himself that cuts him to the quick and calls into question everything he's been doing for what he believes is the public good. And things don't improve for him from there.ā€

ā€œYou'll see Bruce Banner in a whole new light,ā€ Waid continued.

The victim of a near fatal gunshot wound ā€“ Bruce Banner lay inches from death. Did his unknown attacker want the Hulk dead? Or Banner? As Banner clings to life, heā€™ll realize heā€™s not quite as indestructible as he once thought. If he survives this, his darkest hour one thing is certain ā€“ he wonā€™t ever be the same!

ā€œWith a list of enemies as long as the Hulkā€™s, almost anyone could be behind Bannerā€™s assassination attempt,ā€ says Senior Editor Mark Paniccia. ā€œBut the real mysteries are yet to be revealed. Mark Waid has mind-blowing revelations in store for the readers that will have them talking for years.ā€

ā€œThe answers will have Banner going down roads youā€™d never expect and wait till you see whatā€™s in store for Hulk, continued Paniccia. ā€œAnd just how does the Stark family play into all of this? Ha! Fans are going to dig!ā€

How will the Green Goliath solve the mystery of their enigmatic attacker. And the answers will shock Banner to his very core! Donā€™t miss a single moment of this bombastic new series when HULK #1 smashes its way into comic shops this April!

@theacidskull: I know in the beginning it was a little rough as Steve Dillon was the artist but the story itself was interesting (I liked the idea of Hulk waking up and not knowing where Evil Banner has left him or why and how Hulk had to stay angry)

What if the fact he was shot isn't going to be the focus but where he was shot maybe? In an area his guard was down as he thought he was safe from surprise attacks making him see certain allies that could be actual enemies.

He also could have been shot by someone he trusted and his mind blacked out who it could have been out of disbelief. I mean out of any hero ever who has more of a unique psychological makeup that hides so many mysteries among the many different personalities than Hulk. lol

@theacidskull: Ouch...you are right though. I was never clear on how the transformation is supposed to work as well as him retaining any intelligence, maybe some of that will be addressed in the new run. I know they kind of tried to explain his differences in personality in the new series by blaming the fluctuating time stream.

In relation to Banner getting shot going against past attempts, it's possible that Hulk only reacts to Banner's attempts at suicide as a defense mechanism. Someone else shooting him may not trigger that same response. Plus it'll have to be an adamantium or vibranium bullet that puts Banner in a coma with some special properties to it. Even if the answers aren't resolved, that'll be part of the mystery behind this new series. Something like this neat comment

@theacidskull: So that applies to outside shootings as well? OK it needs to be a special bullet then, you're right as per usual on matters pertaining to the Hulk :P

IF banner is aware that he is about to get shot he'll most likely transform WAY before the bullet reaches him, even if it is point blank. But if he is unaware, he can get hit, but that varies with writers.

The latter is what I was speculating about being possible so thanks for the info mate.

I hope that Waid does it justice this time around... And Aarons Hulk was about as bad as his Thor God of Thunder is good, they are literally on the 2 polar opposites of the spectrum. I can understand how some people liked the idea of it(i was the same) but the execution was downright terrible.

Im guessing Shrapnel piece in Banner's persona once again?

And Aaron's run was pure bullsh*t... The ONLY cool thing it had was the art of the first 3 issues by Marc Silvestri, besides that, the whole run sucked hard. Incredibly boring and that Hulk was annoyingly weak.
