Mark Waid and Dean Haspiel Team Up to Bring Back THE FOX

There's a new series coming to the Red Circle Universe.

If you're familiar with the Red Circle characters, you might have an idea who The Fox is. Archie and Red Circle have recently released a trade of the first NEW CRUSADERS - RISE OF THE HEROES mini-series (you can read our review HERE).

Yesterday it was announced that Eisner Award winning writer Mark Waid (DAREDEVIL, Thrillbent) and Emmy winning writer/artist Dean Haspiel (Billy Dogma, HBO’s Bored To Death) are teaming up to launch a brand new series – THE FOX.

Taking place in the Red Circle universe, this exciting creative team will deliver an innovative, action-packed superhero story starring the fabled pulp hero.

This thrilling new addition is a shake up to the Red Circle lineup. The previously solicited New Crusaders: Dark Tomorrow will receive a new release date in early 2014. The critically acclaimed New Crusaders series received high praise and year-end “best of” acknowledgements, dubbed "one of the most enjoyable and surprising books on the stands" and response to THE FOX will no doubt echo that sentiment.

Could be fun. I like modern takes on old pulp characters most of the time, and Mark Waid certainly can't hurt.

Don't care about this. I just hope this doesn't effect Daredevil.

The art is actually very reminiscent of the golden age art style used on this same character which is neat . Archie treats it's heroes like pooh most of the time..

My sense has always been that they don't know what to do with them. Mighty Crusaders was cool, but the solo titles always seemed to struggle.

The Fox was a fantastic back-up in Blue Ribbon Comics, but he didn't always have that yellow fox head on his chest - he pretty much looked like Black Panther. I was wondering why DC didn't use The Fox, when they had the Archie heroes, a few years ago.

What ever happened to DC having the rights to the Red Circle characters?

@cbishop: I hear you, I seem to recall seeing an Alex Toth version of the Fox I think that is what the new art reminds me of. ALL of the MLJ (original name of Archie Comics.) heroes are Public domain and each time they are revived they are re-imagined to secure new trademarks/copyrights etc. Archie abuses the characters by pimping them out instead of taking a risk on new books made in house. The costume of the Fox is so basic and non-distinct they probably leave him out rather than remold him. DC cannot handle the characters it actually owns and really has no business licensing anything they should focus on the properties they have instead of trying to steal PD characters like the MLJ heroes and T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. The version of the fox in the new red circle version closely resembles the Golden Age PD one wonder if it is the same character under the mask as well....

Some wrongs get corrected. ;)

@turoksonofstone: D'oh! I stand corrected on the yellow fox head on his chest! I was thinking of the 1980's version:

See? Looks just like a table dancing Black Panther. The Fox will be available for private dances after his set. Up next: The Jaguar! Rrooowr baby!
