March Brings Bad Tidings for Batman

Have you seen the March 2013 solicits? It's not going to be a cheerful month for Batman.

Poor Batman. When was the last time he caught a break? If he's not getting beat up by Scott Snyder in BATMAN, he's watching his family go through the wringer courtesy of the Joker. As we all wonder what might be happening in the coming months, the March solicits for the Batman Family titles suggest something really bad is coming.

Some might feel these could contain spoilers but it is what has been officially released by DC Comics on their blog. Take a look at these selected few:

On sale MARCH 20 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

• Dick Grayson lost so much during “DEATH OF THE FAMILY” that some new events are going to push him right over the edge!
• Nightwing has almost no hope left until the chance for vengeance presents itself. What decisions will he make?

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #18

No Caption Provided

Written by SCOTT LOBDELL

Art by TIMOTHY GREEN II

Cover by MICO SUAYAN

On sale MARCH 20 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

• Jason Todd suffered terribly at the hands of The Joker in “DEATH OF THE FAMILY,” and now he’s changing the Outlaws’ mission!
• Something is bound to break with all that’s happened…will it be Jason’s soul?

They are kind of vague. The fact that these all have the common theme of something really bad happening is a little out of the ordinary. Comic books are often full of conflict and drama, that's what drives the story. But words like "unspeakable tragedy" and "shocking turn of events" almost sound like more than the average comic book hype.

It's likely you have your theories on what could happen. I have mine. With current events in Death of the Family and BATMAN INCORPORATED, it's easy to suspect that we could be seeing an actual death. Several characters important to Batman have been targeted and the fate of some is currently unknown.

What do you think this tragedy will be? Or do you think it's just regular comic book hype?

You can check out the full solicits HERE.

Death of the family seems to mean the bat related characters will just start to work more independently from each other.

i just have no idea who is going to die. does anybody have to die? its death of the family so could the death be like a break up of the family. that what the joker does is he makes them all turn on each other. its just what i have been thinking.

There is no guarantee that a character will die, but there is a lot of speculation on some characters. I can give you specifics if you would like.

Meh,this is what the Batman line has come down to... nothing but writers constantly trying to outdo each other in making Batman suffer, just for the sake of writing dark and gritty stories.

The whole Batman line is stagnant at this point, there is absolutely no variety.Everything seems the same to me in those solicits, why cant writers actually write instead of following in Snyders footsteps? he spearheads an event, they join, then they explore the consequences of the said event, then Snyder does another event and it's the same thing all over again.

Not blaming Snyder for this(he's only doing his job),the editorial however needs to be sacked immediately.

Come June I'm done with Batman,DC and comics altogether.

Damn bro,for reals?Well I definitely understand why.

Ah, reading you comment as a whole now, I get where you are coming from. I agree that it would be refreshing to see Batman have some happiness in his life for a time. Would it be so bad if he had a girlfriend and built up some friendships, and did not have any incredible suffering for a while? Still, I enjoy the current Batman.

Characters created by writers and forced down one's throat solely in order to validate a writer's insecurities are always fan-favourites.

I don't know about insecurities but arrogance of writers strikes me

If it's Damian that dies, I'll be so happy.

If it's Tim... I'll destroy Detective Comics' headquarters.

Also, I want to spend all my money I get from Christmas on catching up. RHATO in particular is looking better and better!

What are the best issues people can reccomend, for RHATO?

Gotta love how Snyder keeps pushing Batman to the brink. As for the bad tidings and who may die...my guess is as good as anyone else's. Maybe not Damian but...perhaps Alfred? Of course, its Red Hood that I'm most curious of in the aftermath here...

Well I am quite worried we might see Alfred gone... and Batman finally getting over the edge and doing something bad.....

On the other hand, I always see those '' SHOCKING EVENTS CHANGE EVERYTHING ! '' almost in every 4-5 chapters, which lose it's power.

Lets see if this will be Joker's final hurrah ( probably not )

Glad to hear it. I hate to see intelligent people suffer, and that's what we're forced to do when reading this repetitive and uninspired crap.

Maybe Batgirl dies... Gail Simone has been fired from the title by DC. Plus quite a few fans have been complaining about the return of Barbara for a while. It's possible they'll continue Batgirl with another character like Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown?

I was thinking that. Gail had plans for a Babs recovery story and maybe the Dc editors just didn't agree with the direction Gail had for Babs. 100% they wont bring back Cass or Steph. They'll probably use someone lame like Bette Kane....

Edit: Hmmm looks more like Babs now :(

tim drake is safe... the only reason they didnt put him on the list of books to come, is because its more apart of the young justice line and not really a bat book....     unless they pull a hell of a m night shyamalan, where joker kills jason, cripples babs, diggs up the body of gordens dead wife  Sarah Essen-Gordon and runs a train on her....    what a twist lol

Seriously, I think it's going to be Alfred or Gordon, or both. I'll probably get hate for this, but both of them are ultimately expendable and their deaths would have MAJOR impact on Batman.

  • You dare not miss this issue!
  • It’s the BATMAN AND ROBIN story of the year!

How wonderfully descriptive :)

Anyways, because all the Bat-books sell really well (except for Batwing), they wouldn't kill off any of the main characters as it would mean cancelling a title, so if someone is going to die, Alfred is the only one that's really expendable.

So sad Morrison's run on Batman is ending soon look favorite book each month. Batman and Robin looks like it could be a cool book and it seems like maybe they will start something. But all the others look so bland and tired because of Death of the Family.
