'Man of Steel' Trailer Breakdown and Analysis

What does the extended trailer tell us about the movie?

By now you should have seen the latest trailer for 'Man of Steel.' These types of trailers need to be watched over and over. Mainly because we get so excited and can't help not to. Upon watching it, what does it tell us about the movie besides the tone?

Bearded Superman in Explosion out at Sea

No Caption Provided
No Caption Provided

Remember when we saw bearded Superman with a heavy sweater. He looked like a fisherman or something. In the opening scenes, we see him casually floating in the water with a fierce looking fire blazing above the surface.

== TEASER ==

Superman's Powers Develop When He's a Kid

No Caption Provided

In the different interpretations of Superman over the years, when he got his powers has varied. At one point, he was an infant, flying around the orphanage before Ma and Pa came back and adopted him. In other tellings, it wasn't until later in his teens he started showing his super-abilities.

In the trailer, we hear a very young Clark talking about how the world is too big. Ma can be heard telling him to focus on her voice. She tells him to make it small. We can assume that his senses are on overload.

This could also tell us why he decides to go on his bearded fishing expedition. Perhaps he just needs to get away from most people and the busy world around. Or he could be headed north to set up the Fortress of Solitude.

Struggling with a Secret Identity

No Caption Provided

In the different origins, Superman has tried to use his power for good but needs to guard his identity at the same time. When a bus goes crashing into a river, Clark has to use his powers to save lives. This tells us that he does indeed use them before becoming an adult. We also hear a voiceover of a mother of another child saying her son saw what Clark did. It'll take some fast thinking to get out of this one. Could the kid be Pete Ross who will later say he was confused or made it up in order to help keep Clark's secret?

Pa Gives Clark the Talk

We know that Clark isn't going to be whisked off to a government lab (not yet). We see Pa emphasizing the importance of keeping his abilities a secret. Clark is already a hero. He can't help but use his abilities for good. He says he couldn't just sit back and do nothing. When Clark asks if he was just supposed to "let them die," Pa responds with, "Maybe."

Fortress of Solitude and Answers from Jor-El

No Caption Provided
No Caption Provided

Clark will have a Fortress of Solitude. We see him in a cavern/hallway carved under the snow. He's seen "talking" to someone. He says he has a lot of questions including where he comes from. We can assume he's talking to a holo-projection of Jor-El.

The crystals seen in the previous movies also appears different. This must be when he finds out everything about himself and his heritage.

Where Does the Costume Come From?

No Caption Provided
No Caption Provided

We've seen in some origins that Ma made the costume for Clark. She's even made his cape from a baby blanket that was in his ship. Is the costume man-made or is it from Krypton?

Looks like he gets it during his time at the Fortress of Solitude. After his first scene there in the trailer, we then get our first glimpse of him in costume walking through the snow. Looks like whatever Kryptonian technology allows Clark to speak to Jor-El also provides his new wardrobe.

Could it also be that he doesn't know how to fly just yet? It's going to be a long walk home.

First Flight?

No Caption Provided
No Caption Provided

Once he has his costume, he slowly focuses and prepares to fly. It's not the smoothest take off. He leaves a mark on the ground. Will it always be like this or will he improve on his take off later?

There's always been a question of how he's actually able to fly. You can see the ground tremble around him as if he's manipulating gravity in some way. But of course we shouldn't worry about that and just enjoy how cool it looks.

The Destruction of...?

No Caption Provided

At first you think we're getting a glimpse of Krypton's last days. It's pretty intense. It appears as if a beam is shooting down. Buildings are getting destroyed and you can see some molten lava coming to the surface. But looking more carefully, you see regular vehicles. There's a bus with normal Earth numbers. I seriously doubt Krypton had regular cars with wheels. Is this Metropolis or some other city getting utterly destroyed?

Jor-El and Lara

No Caption Provided

The immediate next scene shows young Kal-El about to get his send off. This is why it'd be easy to think we just saw Krypton getting destroyed.

Where Did the Ship Land?

No Caption Provided

It always seemed odd that a spaceship could crash on Earth and no one would know.

After the scene of Krypton's destruction, we do see a ship almost casually arrive in the Kent's yard. Is this when Kal-El first arrived or could it be another Kryptonian in search of...?

Kneel Before Zod

No Caption Provided
No Caption Provided

You've probably heard that Michael Shannon is Zod.

Looks like there will be some kneeling involved. Superman appears to get punched in the gut or something and is spitting out as he falls to his knees. If this is early in his career, he might not be ready to face another Kryptonian.

Superman or Super-Menace?

No Caption Provided

From the recently released poster, we see Superman allowing himself to be taken into custody. We all know he could easily escape from them. It's absurd that they think a pair of handcuffs are necessary, unless they were made of Kryptonite (but that would kill him). It must be that Superman is willing to go along to prove that he is not a threat. Where he's being taken to and who he'll be talking to remains to be seen.

Death of Pa?

No Caption Provided

Sometimes his parents are alive. Sometimes one is. Currently in comics, they're both dead.

Could it be that Pa is dead? Superman is seen saying his goodbyes to Ma, as he likely is about to journey off to the real world.

Lois Lane

No Caption Provided

Some of us have been wondering if Lois was going to have dark hair or not since Amy Adams was portraying her.

This scene takes place with the Army pointing guns and tanks at him. He mentions his father saying if the world found out who he really was, they'd reject him. This is why he allows himself to be taken in. He wants to show that he is not a threat to them.

Here's the trailer one more time:

Man of Steel opens on June 14, 2013.

@SmashBrawler: Lana being "more important" might be due to the fact "Clark Kent Journalist" doesnt really exist in this film (till the end?) &also Lana Lang is Clarks FIRST love.. seeing as this is an origin story one can assume she takes center stage &her loss will inspire Kal El to rip Zah'd limb from limb..? (im kiddin about the last part)

OK 1STLY. MY ONLY WORRIES ABOUT THIS PROJECT ARE HIS HEIGHT/STATURE (MINOR ISSUE) & NOLANS INVOLVEMENT (MAJOR ISSUE)

EVERYTHING ELSE IS COMPLETELY ON POINT &I HAVE COMPLETE FAITH IN SNYDERS ABILITY TO DELIVER A GOOD ENTRY TO A MODERN REALISTIC TAKE ON THE MAN OF STEEL ANYONE WHO SAW WATCHMEN &THE RUN UP TO THE RELEASE CAN AGREE.

THE 1ST HALF OF MY WORRIES ARE SELF EXPLANATORY THE SECONDARY ABIT MORE COMPLEX.. NOLANS INVOLVEMENT WHILE BOLSTERING THE CONFIDENCE OF FICKLE &SOMEWHAT PEDESTRIAN FANS IN THE PROJECT GIVES ME PAUSE FOR CONCERN.. BECAUSE THOUGH HIS GREAT TECHNICAL EXPERTISE IN SCRIPT REFINERY PACING &CINEMATOGRAPHY (THE LATTER SOMETHING SNYDERS ALREADY GOT DOWN) HIS WORRYING TENDENCY TO (INITIALLY) MAKE COMIC STORIES PLEASINGLY REALISTIC BUT GO PAST THE REALISM BARRIER &DESCEND INTO NAVEL GAZING MEDIOCRITY (DKR) IS SOMETHING I HOPE HE KEEPS IN CHECK.

ADDRESSING THE PA "BIZZARO" KENT SCENARIO HES OBVIOUSLY MIDSPEECH &IS TRYING TO TEACH CLARK HE NEEDS TO BE MORE CAREFUL ALSO &THAT HE WONT BE ABLE TO SAVE EVERYONE.. WHICH IS SOMETHING SOMEONE WITH POWERS SUCH AS HIS NEEDS TO LEARN EARLY OR HE'LL GO MAD BEFORE HIS TEENS

ALSO, IT SEEMS PPL HAVE VERY SHORT MEMORIES.. OR HAS EVERYONE ALREADY FORGOTTEN THE INITIAL TRAILERS GIVING TWO DIFFERING PORTRAYALS OF THE TWO FATHERS &THEYRE INFLUENCES ON KAL-EL/CLARK?

PA KENT : "YOURE NOT JUST ANYONE.. ONE DAY YOUR GONNA HAVE TO MAKE A CHOICE.. YOU HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT KIND OF MAN YOU WANA GROWUP TO BE.. WHOEVER THAT MAN IS.. GOOD OR BAD.. HES GOING TO CHANGE THE WORLD..."

JOR EL: "YOU WILL GIVE THE PPL AN IDEAL TO STRIVE TOWARDS... THEYLL RACE BEHIND YOU ..THEY WILL STUMBLE.. THEY WILL FALL.. BUT IN TIME.. THEY WILL JOIN YOU IN THE SUN. IN TIME.. YOU WILL HELP THEM ACCOMPLISH WONDERS..."

EXAMINE THE DYNAMICS OF THOSE TWO STATEMENTS THE SIMILARITIES THEY SHARE ARE THAT THEY BOTH COME FROM A PLACE OF FATHERLY LOVE &FOREBODING OF GREATNESS.. THIS IS WHERE ALL SIMILARITIES END

PA KENT CAUTIOUS SEEMINGLY WORLD WEARY.. THESE ARE THE WORDS OF AN HONEST ORDINARY MAN DOING HIS BEST TO GUIDE A CHILD HE'S SLOWLY REALISING WILL GROW UP TO BE THE WORLDS MOST POWERFUL BEING.. HE'S TORN BETWEEN WORRY OF WHAT THE GOVT WILL DO TO IF THEY FIND HIM &POSSIBLY WHAT CLARK'LL BECOME IF HE LOSES HIS WAY OR BECOMES SHUNNED AS AN OUTCAST/FREAK BLINDED BY POWER ETC..BUT EVEN WITH ALL THAT HE GIVES CLARK THE LESSON OF "CHOICE" HOWEVER IMPORTANT WHATEVER HE BECOMES IS UP TO HIM.. HE CONTROLS HIS DESTINY...THERES NOTHING MORE GROUNDED &HUMAN THAN THAT UNIQUE UNCERTAINTY OF WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS BUT FEELING AS THOUGH WERE STILL IN CONTROL.

JOR EL IN STARK CONTRAST ALMOST ALREADY KNOWS HIS SON WILL ATTAIN GREATNESS &RELAYS A SORT OF DESTINY UPON HIS LOST HEIR MAYBE IN TRADITION AS HE WAS EXPECTED TO BE AND HIS FATHER BEFORE HIM ETC. OR MAYBE AS A MAN OF SCIENCE &WISDOM WITH PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF EARTH &OUR SITUATION.. HIS WORDS ARE FILLED WITH GREAT PRIDE &A SENSE OF LEGACY &DUTY HE FEELS IS HIS SONS BIRTHRIGHT TO CARRY OUT ON EARTH TO HELP HUMANS ASCEND BY LEADING THE WAY/SETTING EXAMPLE THEY CAN ALL FOLLOW.

THE EFFECTS THESE WORDS WILL HAVE ON KAL EL CANT BE UNDERESTIMATED AS HE'LL PROBLY BE AT A POINT OF SOUL SEARCHING BY THE TIME HE HEARS THEM. THIS IS WHAT WILL COMPLETE HIS JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY &SET HIM ON HIS WAY TO BECOMING... YEH

ANYWAY MINOR RESERVATIONS ASIDE.. FROM THAT ANALYSIS ALONE I HAVE A FEELING IF THEYRE DOING WHAT I THINK THEYRE DOING.. THIS COULD NOT ONLY BE UP THERE WITH AVENGERS... BUT POSSIBLY BE THE DEFINING &QUINTISSENTIAL SUPERHERO MOVIE OF OUR GENERATION &THE BEST PORTRAYAL OF SUPES TO DATE. LETS HOPE.

I think it's because Beards are in now!! Didn't you know?!

Seriously, I don't think it's a "DC thing or Jesus thing"

It's just a logical idea to have someone who is "lost" in life before realizing they're meant to be a hero to look scruffy, as having a beard is a sign of not caring about life or being lost...

@Colonyofcells

I definitely agree that Marvel is just getting greedy at this point pumping out movie after movie, which will fail. To quote a great man once said "You can't rush art" well, that's what they're doing.

I do disagree though about MOS being the same old thing, I mean it's Superman more or less strugging as a foreigner on a distant, new planet and home. Something we rarely see and something the haters tend to cry about with him being "too powerful" and such.

Smallville lasted 10 years and had a ridiculous fanbase, something no Marvel or other DC product has done and most likely won't do either...

I think Snyder said, let's take some elements from Smallville and apply it here and tell a deeper, darker story then Superman 2 and honestly all I see is success from this idea. He's pretty revamped and fresh as well as relevant if you ask me. New 52 inspired look, new stories. This Zod also is much like Smallville's where he's more serious and darker then the Zod in the second film. Which was played well but Stamp, but let's face it the movie had a lot of "silly" moments like with NON...or the redneck arm wrestling Ursa...I mean, this film I doubt we'll see any "jokey moments" even the new Avengers had far too many "funny" moments like Hulk using Loki as a ragdoll, obviously an element put in there to make kids laugh.

It's one thing I love about DC films typically more then Marvel, less goofy, silly stuff that the film can do without in an attempt to attract a more simple minded crowd.

My impression is movie goers are starting to get tired of the too many Marvel movies. Superman also has a problem since Superman already has had many old movies plus the more recent flop Superman Returns. Many movie goers could believe the new superman movie will be as boring as the flop Superman Returns. My impression with the latest Superman movie is that it has nothing new to offer and anyone can just watch the Smallville season 9 which also features Zod. Superman needs more revamps to look fresh and relevant.

@TheHeat, Ok, obviously you have selective reading since again I said LOTR trilogy whole will still be higher then Avenger films once they're done hence me saying and I'll quote myself "Fine, forget lotr even though i'm positive once hobbits done and avengers are done, full worldwide stats will have hobbit/lotr making more money overall."

So, I'm not being inconsistent. I'm merely correcting your post. You're making an assumption that MOS won't do well or nearly as much as Avengers? How do you know? You don't. I mean like I said, prior to that DK(movie about one man fighting crime) set the records for launch box sales before Avengers(movie about an entire team of heroes fighting crime) broke it...

What are you talking about? lol Superman has a very ridiculous following now with that comment clearly you're ignorant or just a hater now. If not for Superman you'd have no avengers or marvel for that matter...hell, even Stan Less admitted JL and DC was his direct inspiration for the characters he created. So obviously you're misinformed. You're right about one thing though, you're right MOS won't generate like IM 3 or Thor 2 because it'll generate MORE the way it's looking...Wolverine? lol yeah ok...that movie was trash compared to even Superman Returns, don't know what you're smoking if you think MOS won't do better then Wolverine...not even close. Are you going to list Electra next too? lol

I'm sure it'll be the summers best comic film. Thor one was hardly impressive and dull until the end. And IM 3 will most likely be "good" at best, not "great" given the second one's impressions.

This movie reminds me of a mix between Smallville+Superman 2 but updated more darker, serious tone. Looks epic! Can't wait!

The way it's looking, Man Of Steel>>>>Avengers

I doubt MoS will get better reviews or make the box office that the Avengers did. MoS got IM3 and Thor 2 to compete with next year, and we both know that those two movies will be box office hits.

Box office sales mean nothing except bragging rights and allows for more movies spawning from the financial success of previous films, besides Avengers hasn't beaten LOTR trilogy totals or Avatar still has Avengers beat in overall worldwide sales. Besides, outside of Avengers movie records. DC still overall has the upper hand with Smallville longest running 10 year comic book TV show>>anything Marvel has done and most sold comic of all time. Death of Superman. Not to mention animated movies and shows which DC also has done better then Marvel.

The main reason why Avengers sold crazy was because it was aimed at kids besides anyone else, DK is more mature, DC movies in general usually attract a more essentric, mature mind. Otherwise, honestly most overrated comic movie ever. 90% of the movie was CGI.

I'm sure MOS will get just as good if not better reviews then Avengers and DKR(not that reviews mean much) all that is are people getting paid for their opinions, but the overall scale I'm sure MOS will be FAR better then Superman Returns from the trailer alone and I can already tell better then the 3rd and 4th Superman movies.

LOTR? Smallville? What does anything have to do with you proclaiming that MoS will be better or is better than the Avengers? And I'm pretty sure the same mature essentric people who saw DKR(overrated movie btw) saw the Avengers.

I'm merely pointng out that those two franchises have also broken records that marvel hasn't since you brought up box office stats which also have nothing to do with mos probably going to do well. You mentioned box ofice sales, lotr trilogy totals are higher then avengers was my point. I don't see how dkr was overrated being the last film in nolan's triology but i suppose that's your opinion, avengers to me was very overrated. Just think prior to that dk set most of those launch weekend records, yet with marvel takes entire avengers to do so. I'm waiting for jla, then we'll talk records again if they do it right

How is it alright for you to say that a trilogy box office total is bigger than the Avengers' total, but say that it took Marvel all of the Avengers to break weekend records that were previously held by TDK? Do you see how you're not being consistent?

How exactly am I being inconsistent? I merely posted the facts, you wer ethe one who brought up box office numbers out of nowhere as if they mean and define everything....

So I countered with facts concerning franchises who have avengers beat or did. Fine, forget lotr even though i'm positive once hobbits done and avengers are done, full worldwide stats will have hobbit/lotr making molre money overall. My point is dk broke the spiderman record and set it before avengers broke it this year, yet thats multiple marvel characters vs. batman one character who owned it previously. If you do the math that alone tells you batman, superman etc have a ridiculous following that marvel needs the entiree avenger lineup to compete...individually, none of them best TDK.

I'm showing you your inconsistencies because you compare the Avengers movie to a trilogy, Of course, LOTR trilogy total is bigger than the Avengers' one movie total. And Superman doesn't have a"ridiculous following". He's pretty popular sure, but MoS won't generate a box office like Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 will...or even The Wolverine movie. I doubt it makes the box office ASM did last year with $800M.

I get that he sort of looks like the smallville acter but older..this is atrocious! Bah! Humbug!

I used to be like you. I hated when DC did anything to change my favorite character. but i realized that its not about the costume, tone, or the power level. As long as Supes still has the same personality that makes me love the character im fine with it.

@toekneebeeears: Ya but it was still just some people with evil plans. This trailer gives the impression that super-man might actually get to have a bad ass super fight.

Can't stand Superman in the comics anymore but I'm really liking the way this movie is looking. Superman deserves a good movie where he fights someone at his level (can't wait to see him and Zod throw punches). Really excited for this.

@toekneebeeears: Hm well the thing here is ... in the time where superman was invented and then filmed first, there was nothing else they could imagine of... as just to put on cotton tights as a costume ;) Generations have evolved, time has passed. And did not his earth mother Martha Kent sew the costume out of some sheets in the original story...? So right now, in this movie and the new 52 comics we see what you talk about. He is clothed appropriate, like his ancestors from Krypton, in traditional armor. Not like an earth guy whos mum sew a costume that looks like it was bought from a halloween costume store ;)

Don't get me wrong here - I am just no fanboy of Superman and therefore may see things different than users who are a huge fan of him. I just have a different approach on this, and I like this new design and feeling way better than the one in the previous comics.

@Edimasta: It's perfectly realistic for him to wear a costume that we think is strange. He's an alien. So, the clothes he wears should look strange to us. Think about other cultures on our own planet. In the Middle East women cover their whole bodies in black with only their eyes exposed. Certain tribes in Africa women are topless or even completely nude. There are many cultures on our own planet that seem to dress in strange ways to us but it’s normal to them. So just imagine what clothes from other worlds would look like. On krypton wearing tights, red underwear, and a yellow belt might be as normal as blue jeans and a t-shirt to us. Who’s to say what’s normal realistic cloths are for an alien?

@toekneebeeears: because that was already talked about - this is traditional kryptonian clothing / armour... they wore this on Krypton. So why shouldn't he wear it, in honor to his world, his people? Is it really that much better running around in light blue underwear with yellow belt and stuff... ?

Why would superman need battle armor? He is invulnerable. The only reason he would need battle armor is if it was led to protect him from Kryptonite.

Great Breakdown (Y). I done some of my own too :

At 0:24 , you can see there are many same type of pencil Clark's using...I think it's because he is too strong, and he breaks it easily...So, his foster parents going to need more replacement for that.

And also, I think he gets his Superman costume in the FOS...you can see him wearing that on the ice cap (north pole).

Besides, I think General Zod is indeed landing a beam on Earth, you can notice it with all those school buses flying around and many residents are running away from it.

Completely agree. This trailer makes me hopeful. Looks very interesting particularly if it all comes together. For the first time in a long time I am interested in a Superman movie.

The suit is BRILLIANT - a kryptonian battle armour!! What else do you think he should wear, trousers from the good old 80s? I am really glad they are giving this a more "realistic" look and darker theme... like they did now in the New 52 comics. And he is the first actor that really looks like a Superman, bulky, taller, stronger... this will be fantastic!

I don't like this trailer.

1. The song is depressing. A sad sounding woman singing, really? Where is the John Williams score? No, it doesn’t have to be the John Williams score but the music should make the audience excited. Not depressed. The music should make us route for Superman.

2. The color is drab and saturated. Superman's costume looks like he washed it too much and now it's faded. Where is the iconic blue, red, and yellow? All I see is a grey-blue, grey-red, and grey-yellow. YUCK! Also, I miss the yellow S on the back of his cape and yes even the red undies.

3. The tone is too depressing. I'm all for a serious grounded Superman but, this trailer takes it too far. Superman is supposed to

be a symbol of hope .All I see is young superman crying, Ma Kent crying, the death of Pa Kent, the destruction of Krypton, destruction in Metropolis, Superman being arrested by the military, Lois sad that Superman has to go away, and Zod's forces taking over. Some people might say that this movie reflects the dark times we live in. However, in the late 30s when Superman was created the world was going through some very dark time to. America was still dealing with the great depression. Hitler was rising to power and World War II was about to begin. Superman was created to bring hope to these dark times. I don't see hope in this trailer. All I see is nothing but death and destruction in this trailer.

4. The worst thing about this trailer is that Pa Kent would rather have innocent people die then people find out about Clark. That is a completely selfish and unethical attitude. I understand that he wants to keep his son safe but, Pa Kent would never for one second feel that keeping his son's secret is more important than people's lives. NEVER! Superman was raised by the Kents with extremely high morals. That is why he is hero.

I will reserve judgment of this film. I want it to be good. It’s a Superman movie after all. I never want to see a bad Superman movie. That’s why my standards are so high. I have doubt about this movie. But, I hope that it is very good.

@SmashBrawler: I hear what your saying. The more I thought about it the more I'd be upset with Adams really is Lana. Just because of how much they've built her up saying she's Lois. Maybe she dyes her hair midway through the movie? lol

Well since they're rebooting they could actually start with Lana being the love interest instead of Lois which would be pretty interesting to see. Kind of like how the amazing spiderman has Gwen Stacey right now and not Mary-jane. I would have to see Amy Adams acting as Lois in superman before I can give a yay or nay but just from the little clip of her in the trailer she looks more like Lana to me. Not just the hair, I wasn't really getting a reporter vibe from her outfit. But its more like you said I wouldn't understand why they'd hide the fact that Amy adams is really Lana and why would they hide who Lois is if that really is a different actress.

Hmm... well, when you put it that way it makes more sense.

But yeah, there's no real reason to be hiding Lana or Lois in this movie, they're not a fan-favorite villain or anything like that, just important parts of the Superman mythos. If they ended up doing something like that it would be random as hell and I wouldn't like it.

Hated the trailer..HATE the casting..btw i always though bruce campbell, while obviously too old now, would of made a good supes..around the time of army of darkness

Why dont these film makers get off their butts & instead of just picking from some folder of actors actually go out down the street, visit some gyms, find someone who looks the part..same with batman..(horrible)..they dont need to be rada trained actors..visuals are more important-this is NOT SUPERMAN HE LOOKS NOTHING LIKE SUPERMAN

Maybe Superman was already bowing down a bit too early from pain so Zod did not need to tell Superman to kneel ?

The costume's origin depends on Jor-El's reasons for sending Kal-El to Earth. If Jor-El just wanted his son to survive and/or spread Krypton's legacy, Ma made the costume. If he wanted his son to be the Earth's savior (which I think is why he chose where to send Kal-El) then Jor-El gave him the costume. Or maybe it's just some traditional Kryptonian garb, or something.

Sadly, it's been confirmed Zod won't say his catchphrase in the new one. (But then, we were also told Miranda Tate wasn't Talia al Ghul) I mean, one of his lackeys could say the line to Superman while forcing him to do it, but it's just not the same.

Really hundreds of comments and no one mentions the brief glimpse we get of Laurence Fishburne as Perry White running with Lois Lane through a bunch of exploding buildings!?

At least I think that was Perry and Lois lol. @1:53 I think.

I saw that and I heard some theories that suggest that that's the real Lois Lane and Amy Adams is actually playing Lana Lang. This is obviously based on previous stuff we've seen with Nolan's characters, but the theory doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons:

  1. Why would Lana be more important than Lois?
  2. Liam Neeson as Henry Ducard/Ra's al Ghul, Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate/Talia al Ghul and Joseph Gordon Levitt as John Blake/Robin John Blake. All these characters had "secret identities", but they did use their "fake ones" in the movie. Why would Lana use the name of another character in the movie?

Well since they're rebooting they could actually start with Lana being the love interest instead of Lois which would be pretty interesting to see. Maybe Amy Adams is playing Chloe Sullivan ? Maybe Superman will use kryptonian armor also and will use a kryptonian bazooka to kill Zod ?
