One of the few movies I went to go see in theaters. I also dont really like buying movies with commentary unless the people are funny (south park or WKUK come to mind) but I heard theres like an hour more of footage and I guess maybe I can tolerate the non funny crew's talking if they talk about the sequel.

@fifthchild: They didn't die only in the directors, and thus *noncanon* cut. Canonically they fell to their deaths and died without ever being mentioned again.

And I was complaining about the decision to murder the Kryptonians in Superman II *long* before MOS was a word on anyone's lips.

No offence intended here but to me thats absurd.

First the obvious: We dont see them die at all in the theatrical cut. So they didnt in fact die in the theatrical version - thats just an interpretation. An interpretation that the extra footage reveals was (quite obviously IMO) not the film-maker's intention.

Speaking from a less legalistic, more personal perspective the idea that someone watched that scene and thought "Wow Supes just iced that guy!" blows my mind. Whats next? Do we think that trucker who Superman spun round in his seat at superspeed had his brain liquefied and spent the rest of his life as an invalid?

Theres a reason a generation of parents were happy to take their families to see the Reeve movies (the first 2 at least - i dont think anyone was happy about the others) and people arent necessarily thrilled about taking young kids to see a movie that climaxes with Superman snapping a guys neck with his bare hands. Theres a reason Goyer/Snyder felt they had to (wrongly IMO) distance Superman from his earlier "goody-goody" versions by having him kill. Its not because the Reeves version of the character that the general public was most familiar with was some unbalanced psychopath.

No he didnt. Thats a crazy interpretation given the context and tone of that film. Who actually watched that film, as the Superman theme triumphantly swelling and seriously thought that Superman just threw a powerless, middle aged man to his death? Followed quickly by a mentally handicapped guy suffering the same fate and topped off by Lois Lane murdering another chick - all played for laughs. Thats insane.

I mean there were scenes shown in the TV version which made the obvious even more clearcut by showing police cars (in the Arctic) to take away the Kryptonians but anyone who claims with a straight face that Superman murdered Zod in Superman II in order to defend MOS is being intellectually dishonest.

And in Superman 2 he actually had a choice since they were all depowered lol.

Cavill's had no choice and you could see that he didn't wanna do it. Reeve's casually does it and is happy. :)

this. Basically, they pulled no punches in Superman, no pun intended. People forget that The Avengers was also Disney, hence the gloss amidst the carnage and invasion. They really didn't pull any punches again, in Superman, and said they wanted to do a realistic take, what would happen if a super powerfull invading force wanted to do what they did, and yeah, Superman stopped them, just not in a Disney way, where everything is nice and sweet and works out perfect, cause that's what happens when you don't challenge the character(s) and instead wrap everything up nice and easy with a ribbon at the end!

@freak_spawn: your not a real fan if you think this sucked.

He isn't a real fan because he has an opinion? I love this movie but this is such a stupid mentality. Who are you to tell somebody if they're a true Superman fan? If somebody owns tons of Superman comics/figures/shirts/etc but doesn't like one movie they're not a real fan?

I can't wait until this comes out. I'm getting the Blu-Ray from Wal-Mart because I got my Early Screening Tickets from them and decided to get the Blu-Ray, as well. It came with a pretty sweet hologram magnet that I have on my refrigerator. I'm tempted to get the Limited Edition, actually. That would look awesome on top of my DC Comics Bookshelf.

The whole "murder" scene reminded me of Chronicle where Matt had to reluctantly kill Andrew who was stronger and wanted to die. If Matt had not killed Andrew, Andrew would have killed millions. No matter how immoral the killing, it was the only logical outcome.

Never have I seen a movie where people either hated or loved a movie as strongly as this one. I don't really know anyone who even just "liked" the movie. I loved it tho. I'm amazed at the backlash I hear from it.

Already spent around 30 $ for 3 visits in cinema, and there goes another 36 $ + delivery price. This film deserves that (one of the greatest superhero/sci-fi films for me). Can’t wait!

Never cared for the movie, whether he had to kill Zod or not. The writers made it into a way that he had to kill Zod and it was obvious when Zod said early on "You'll have to kill me" (that and the writers admitted they struggled over the decision about whether to kill Zod or not and how to write it in). It was cheap writing, giving an easy out to getting rid of a villain. I also didn't see much of the connections between characters, especially Pa Kent, who I just didn't care for (can't care for him when he told a young Clark that he should have let kid's on a bus die to protect his identity).

1. The World Engine did 99% of the damage to Metropolis, not Superman and Zod

2. Even still, millions is a GROSS over estimate. By the time Superman even got there, most of the people had evacuated the buildings.

3. How do we know he even killed anyone at all? I haven't seen the movie since it came out, but if I remember correctly, he didn't actually knock any buildings down, he just flew through them, and I don't remember him hitting any pedestrians as he did so.

No it didn't. It was only damaging the centre of Metropolis. Superman and Zod were trashing the entire city.

Okay maybe not million but people were killed.

They knocked 2 or 3 buildings down. not everyone evacuated the city people were still in the streets and in buildings when they fighting they had caused immense collateral damage killing people in the process.

You misinterpreted the fight completely differently friend.

Superman Didn't want to hurt anyone, most of the Building were evacuated. this was his first real fight, Asking Zod to go somewhere else would have defeated the idea of him going on a rampage. he WANTED TO hurt people, and superman can't help if he gets thrown into 3 buildings Add the fact that Zod was obviously More powerful than Superman considering that he was giving Clark a decent fight despite the fact that he couldn't yet fly. He was right when he said that he was bred to be a Warrior, Superman was just a farm boy with a Kind heart and a desire to help, there was no real solution to the whole thing. There was no Kryptonyte, there was NO Red Sun light, what was supes going to do?

Also the choke hold, have you ever stopped to think that Zod wanted to die and he was giving clark a choice? I mean, clark could have held Zods head but he could have easily moved his eye to fry the family, i mean superman can't keep his eyes in plays can he? Zod had nothing to live for, so he created a scenario in which he gave clark a choice, kill me or this is what will happen. And cover Up his eyes? and then what? Zod would get out of the hold eventually and kill more people, with his bare hands, with a truck, etc.

Superman, realizing all of this Put A stop to it, had he any other choice, he wouldn't have killed him. He does the same In the comics whether people like it or not. it was VERY WELL executed :)

I never said Superman was intentionally trying to hurt people but he wasn't helping doing more damage while fighting Zod. Superman was more powerful but was not trained and hadn't honed his abilities which is why Zod was able to battle him which is correct but again I never said he shouldn't kill him Superman could've easily tackled Zod into space and snapped his neck and I would've been fine with it because it makes sense to save the humans he sacrifices one of his own.

I meant suplex him or something just standing there while his heat vision is getting closer to the family was stupid. and if he would've covered his eyes and saved those people Zod wouldn't have killed more because after that Superman would've ended it their. as soon as the family got out realizing Zod won't stop.

He rarely kills in comics the only time it was done well was when he killed Doomsday.

@guardian_of_gravity: I never said he shouldn't kill him.
