Lucasfilm Trademarks 'Star Wars 1313' -- Discuss.

The company registers a new trademark for games, films and comics but what could this mean?

The question on everyone's minds this morning is whether or not George Lucas is planning a new Star Wars project; and it's no wonder considering the news that hit about Lucasfilm's latest trademark. Early last week Lucasfilm registered a trademark for 'Star Wars 1313,' giving them the rights to absolutely every form of entertainment associated with that name including video games, films, graphic novels, comic books and even toy helmets and toy snow globes. Yes, you read that right; snow globes.

No Caption Provided

So, what the heck is 'Star Wars 1313'? With only the trademark to go on and the fact that Lucasfilm has registered just about every form of entertainment under the sun associated with that name, there's not much else to say. That is, of course, with the exception that 'Star Wars 1313' will have something to do with Boba Fett's character.

According to a page on Wikia, Boba Fett once referred to himself as the alias CT-1313 when he was once "confronted by a clone trooper" on Aargau. This little tidbit appeared in the Scholastic Boba Fett series by Elizabeth Hand, and is therefore not necessarily considered "true Star Wars canon." This is pretty much the main reason we prefer to discredit this idea that Star Wars 1313 will have something to do with Boba Fett -- it just seems unlikely that Lucas would dedicate so much effort into a concept that appeared in one of the Star Wars off-shoot novels. History has taught us that Lucas likes to have his creative hand in control of just about everything Star Wars related.

== TEASER ==

The idea of a Boba Fett live-action movie -- or anything related to the character isn't a new idea. In fact, last summer Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston stated that he would definitely be interested in bringing Boba Fett to the big screen.

“You know if he wants to see it, I would show it to him. I’m trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett.”

This isn't the first time we've seen Joe Johnston's name attached to Boba Fett -- in fact it's something we mentioned last summer. So Is 'Star Wars 1313' Johnston's project coming into full realization, or is that just wishful thinking on everybody's part? Johnston was, after all, an integral part of bringing Boba Fett to life, and the character definitely caught on with fans. Even with minimal time on-screen, Boba Fett is still a very popular character, so expounding on that popularity wouldn't be a bad idea. Still, could 'Star Wars 1313' be a Boba Fett movie, video game, animated series, graphic novel or even a snow globe? That remains to be seen. What do you think 'Star Wars 1313' will be about?

I really find it hard to care at this point. I might pick up a comic here and there, but my interest in anything new under the star wars brand has faded considerably.

Wasn't there discussion for a while of a TV drama or some sort of show about Star Wars, set to take place between Episodes III and IV? Maybe it has something to do about that. I had heard that a couple of years ago Lucas wanted it to come out within the next 5 years or so. Unless that has changed and I'm not in the know about it, maybe that could be it.

I would pay to see you do that... though after seeing that... I would probably regret it

From the (little) research that I've done and from the actual trademark itself (shown below) it suggests that the trademark is not going to be a movie, but a new video game instead:

(For some reason, I can't upload the image, so here's the link)

I don't know, a movie would probably end up not doing well. I vote for a game or animated series. Graphic novel seems presumptuous and snow globe seems, eh.

As much as it would be awesome to see a Boba Fett movie. I just can't imagine one without Han Solo and Chewbacca, and I'm not entirely sure I want to see either of them recast. I love both Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew and I would like their glory days to stay just that. There adventures will just have to continue in the books.

However on the flip side, an animated Boba Fett movie would be great with- but no more winey Boba Fett from the clone wars. I swear he wines more than Anakin.

Horrible idea. Keep Boba Fett away from the big screen. The time he had on the movies is what made him. A semi important character that became one of the most popular character in SW. Just let that be.

It is either the first ever set of collectible fighting snow globes (think pokemon but when you get angry that you lost, throw the globe at the winner) or a video game. I am really hoping for the first one

Seriously though, I hope it takes the badassness of Boba Fett and combines it with the awesomeness of The Force Unleashed to created the best Star Wars game since KotOR

What about movies 1-3 which were somewhere between bad and alright as standalone films and an utter abomination when compared to the originals?

Whether its just my age but I find it hard to get excited about Star Wars now. Maybe because its not the star wars I grew up with (now its Clone Wars more than anything) I don't know. But old George sure loves his money so I'm betting, as others have said, this 1313 cobblers is likely to be kiddy-centric crap.

Ridiculous hopes for what it could be? A new version where the Empire wins... I'd love that.

Who knows, George could surprise us cynical buggers

A Boba Fett movie could be pretty awesome, he already is one of the most recognisable characters in the whole Star Wars Universe and there is a weatlh of background they could pull from comics, books, games or even new stuff to explain what he did off screen. That said, id be interested in anything Star Wars related providing Lucas takes a back seat and just produces, the Clone Wars series has been fantastic and he has had only minimal input into that so i think that would be the best way to go.

I saw the original three Star Wars films when they came out (I went to the drive-in to see Star Wars in 1977). I was excited to hear about the next three films in the late 1990s - 2000s (episodes 1-3) and did see them at the theater (2 of them on opening day). But I have lost interest in George Lucas' ability as a film maker. Episodes 4-6 were creative genius, I still love them to this day. But Episodes 1-3 were shallow, relying on too much cgi. Just my opinion.

What is Star Wars 1313? If it is another movie series I'll probably sit this one out.

May the force be with you.

I don't know why everyone's thinking it's something new or good.

Why not just the obvious? 1313 = 1/3/2013

On Jan 3, 2013, Lucas Arts will probably release another box set of Star Wars. Maybe a remaster, digitally enhanced, 3D, with glitter sparkles added to Han Solo new edition box set.

I would be willing to see a Boba Fett movie. I like the Star Wars series but i really wish Lucas would cut the cord and let others try some things with the franchise. I would like to see more Star Wars movies and they dont have to be based on the Skywalker family (although i would love to see Darth's descendants come to the big screen). They can simple do movie's based on the Jedi or Sith or Dark Jedi (if that is a thing)

Thats just completely untrue Star Wars is one of the largest if not the largest Sci Fi multimedia in the world it has been for a long time and will continue to grow.Harry Potter Hunger games will never hold a light to Star Wars and its popularity and longevity.I mean have you seen the Clone Wars series how many new fans its brought in the continuous span of Action Figures comic books and video games? Star Wars passed its prime way back now and like you said the only reason why they are kept alive is through supplementary material and merchandising. I am not saying that Star Wars should lay down and die I am a huge fan and don't want to see it happened, the only way to revitalizing the franchise is making a live-action TV series or making another trilogy. The TV series is more likely since Lucas said there will not be another movie but then again it wasn't already released.

I personally agree with what you just said specially because that is what makes Star Wars awesome in the first place but a lot of movie fans dismiss the Expanded Universes and only accept the movies as canon.

Even if we like this new upcoming project, they will still complain how the Expanded Universe are detrimental to the original trilogy, making them look like s**** by one up several levels above the original movies.

If George has his hands on it, it will be nothing more than kiddie-targeted crap.

I think nobody these days care about Star Wars anymore because today we have Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Game of Thrones (which some consider at least the first two the new Star Wars) and even if they are targeted for kids, I don't think so with all the mutilations, political intrigues and the kids themselves GETTING MURDERED!

Im not a fan of the Clone Wars or prequel era and I cant wait for it to pass by.Not to mention the re release of the films in 3 D which again im not a big fan off.You see Star Wars is been kept alive by both Lucasfilm and its many fans. Also they are planning a new series called Star Wars Underworld Im not sure if this has anything to do with that but Lucas said the series will be live action and will mainly feature characters that didn't appear in the movies and didn't appear prominently in them one of those characters been Boba Fett

But its not only kept alive through merchandising the comics and the cartoons that continue to come from it keep the franchise alive alot of it is good and some of it is bad yes but the point is Star Wars is an entire universe its not just the movies. And they are coming out with a live action TV series.Thats the thing about Star Wars despite it been only one universe where everything happens there is still plenty to pick and chooses from

Yeah well that's there loss

I, as much as any Star Wars fan, would love to see a new trilogy, but I would be perfectly fine with a new game.

I know you're not speaking for everyone, but I'm a star wars fan and I would hate to see a new trilogy.

To each their own. I would've loved seeing the New Jedi Order along with Luke as Grandmaster but I doubt that'll happen.

Fair enough. I might be persuaded if a different, more capable director was assigned to it. Not knocking that Lucas used to be good, but I just don't think he has what it takes to make a good star wars movie anymore.
