Get ready for The Malcontents!

Lobo first appeared back in 1983 and was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. In the mid-eighties, Slifer went on to work in animation at Sunbow. Today he is ready to launch his own new project.

Slifer will be releasing his graphic novel project through Kickstarter, an innovative financing solution for independent publishers and other creative endeavors.

“I think the concept behind Kickstarter is great!” said Roger, “It allows creators and fans to connect one-on-one and allows the fans to become direct participants in the creation of original graphic novels. I hope they’ll join me in bringing The Malcontents to life!”

Who or what are The Malcontents? They appear to be random casualties of the health care system run amok when treatments go terribly wrong. A popular movie actress is left scarred beyond recognition, a visionary artist is blinded and left destitute, a loyal soldier loses his limbs not from battle but from betrayal and a desperate doctor's unspeakable tragedy brings them all together. Their incidents seem to be random and unrelated but are they? Why were these individuals targeted? The Malcontents must help each other overcome their handicaps and prevent other innocents from becoming victims of the shadowy Echelon.

As for what Kickstarter is and how it works:

In exchange for “Rewards” posted by the creator, fans, or anyone with a philanthropic bent, can contribute directly to the creator’s artistic vision.  In the case of “The Malcontents,” the rewards range from “I’m a Malcontent” buttons and t-shirts to exclusive art prints and even being featured as a character in the graphic novel itself!  Also, all contributors will be credited in the graphic novel, with the very largest contributors being credited on the title page—right up there with the creative team!

In addition, all contributors will be allowed access to the Kickstarter blog and get behind the scenes updates, special sneak peeks at the artwork as the project evolves, and watch the step-by-step progression as the graphic novel goes through every stage to its completion.
