Liefeld to Draw Deadpool Corps

Disappearing backgrounds and magic fog covering feet here we come!

No Caption Provided
Does anyone, other than the dog, have noses in this picture? It all just gets... scrunchy where the nose should be. But hey, he's gotten better at feet! The "he" I'm talking about is none other than living legend Rob Liefeld. Rob created the Deadpool character back in New Mutants #98. Rob has been "tweeting" a lot recently about this book, and now we know why... He's drawing it.

Rob Liefeld has been twittering with joy the various Deadpool-styled characters who will be populating the Deadpool Corps book, Headpool, Kidpool, Dogpool and Lady Deadpool. And now we know why. He’s drawing the book.

Yes, all of it.

And yes, so far, it seems to be on time.

However, in my search to find these supposed tweets and become that "hard hitting" reporter I've always wanted to become, I only found this guy, and I don't think he knows what a Deadpool is. Then, I realized I was spelling his name wrong, and easily found Rob on Twitter. Then I noticed there are two fake Rob accounts that only talk about how he can't draw feet. I finally found his twitter account and here's a few pieces of what he had to say about the upcoming debockle known as Deadpool Corps.

I'm finishing up DCP #1 right now. I drew Prelude to Deadpool Corps.: Lady Deadpool #1 a couple months back and Deadpool MWM #7 in summer
http://twitpic.com/yojnd - So now that Deadpool Corps. is out of the bag. Here's a panel from issue #1 to whet your appetite. DCP in April!
In case your wondering, Deadpool is crying because Cable is so damn heavy and he can't hold him a moment longer. http://bit.ly/6LGVmc

After reading many of his tweets, I never want to see the word "Deadpool" in print, ever, again. The current on-going Deadpool book is pretty good, but that's about it. It started off with a bang, and for me, it got boring. He got another on-going and a mini-series, and now this. I feel like I'm having bad comedy shoved down my throat week after week. And before the fans jump down my throat... Deadpool is great in either small doses or with a strong lead character attached to him. On his own, it's too wacky, and that wackiness can only last a few issues before losing it's appeal. I'm at a point where I could care less about this book. I don't care who's drawing or who's writing. I'm sick of the character.  Sad thing is, no matter how much I complain, I'll still read it.

What do you guys think? Does Liefeld sway you on this book either way? Sick of Deadpool yet?

Seems like you're a) obsessed with drugs & b) obsessed with Rob Liefeld.  There wasn't any need to post the same video twice :p  Yes, he has got better at drawing hands & feet.  But considering he's been in the business for 20 years now, he should have learnt basic anatomy long ago.  I don't doubt that Rob Liefeld is a genuinely nice guy and enthusiastic about making comics.  Sadly, his actual artistic talent & commitment to what he creates doesn't have the same longevity.  "

I disagree, Cable, Deadpool, Youngbloods and many of his other characters are still around to date, yes Rob has done some bad art, has he done some good art? YES. and I think he does far more good art than bad. If there is any Deadpool book I'll read it'll be one of Liefelds, because Liefeld dosen't deserve so much crap from everyone. I think he is one of the more Passionate artists out there, when he speaks about his art and his characters you can tell he truly loves what he does, and that he cares deeply for the comic industry.
And the whole Bloated Captian America chest thing, is really what set it off for most of Rob's critics, I know he had a few before, but people tended to ignore his bad drawings, and focus on the good up until then. And he has only gotten better with age. is he the best artist no... Hell No! not even close. but is he a Bad one, no, he isn't a bad artist either. for me at least he is somewhere in the middle and always has been. I just don't see the Hatred of his work, I don't understand it. I have seen far worse artists get less criticism. and half of the people who crap on Liefeld, are terrible artists themselves or they aren't even an artist. Take it from an Artist (i.e. Myself) Rob really isn't as bad as people make him out to be.

-Sorry for the long winded diatribe.

and the reason I told this to you Kitty, is the fact your opinions are always ones I tend to respect. and I just figured I'd voice my opinion on Rob's career. and if you have any counter-points, or anything I really would like to know them. :D

I like Deadpool, but I usually hate whatever supporting cast members get introduced in his books. I really only care about the main onging (which I agree has been losing some steam). Merc with a Mouth is kinda boring and Deadpool Team-Up has been awful so far.

The only thing worse than Rob Liefeld's art is his writing. This world would be better off without his creations, Deadpool included.

@joshmightbe: True! the Crisis cover was the first cover that came to MY mind, so forgive me for crediting Perez. The imagery can be identified all the way back to Michelangelo's Pieta. However, Liefeld's cover is SO close to Perez's work, all the way down to the colors (Which I know was intentional), that I immediately made the association (again, intentional). My issue with Liefeld's cover, is that his characters have more depth to them than Perez's did, but they overlap in an impractical way. Where is Deadpool holding Cable? Where is Cable's right arm going? IF Cable is dead, how is he able to hold his head up like he is? I realize its a little nit-picky, but those are the things I notice...

your easy to misunderstand. you bash Marvel constantly as it is. and your logic is completely backwards on the ground that Rob created and drew the majority of Deadpool. so your saying you like a character and hate the designer of the character, and his design of the character? ridiculous. you must be drunk!

I never said i hated the design of Deadpool, You're putting words in mouth! And when else have I bashed Marvel (other than Quesada's lack of talent or Bendis' inability to maintain a coherent timeline)?!

" Rob sucks " because people are paying attention to you and that feels good, maybe? what would help it was if your opinions had actual research involved in them.

Well its obviously working since you keeping responding! LOL

because in every one of those covers, illustrated by Rob BTW, that Psimitar hilt appears exactly as it does on the Crisis parody cover,
the same Psimitar you insist Cable does not and never had, and that the hilt doesnt look like it did prior (which is another
backwards claim since you claim it also was never there). im of the consensus here that you dont read these books.

I never argued that Cable didn't have a Psimitar, my point was it was that the katanas on Deadpool's back don't look like practical weapons because the hilts look too short and narrow in relation to the size of hands... YOU must be drunk or blinded by nerd rage to differentiate between contributers to this forum!

Rob created the looks, and the further costumes. there was very little contribution on the side of other artists
because he already made those costumes/looks in the first place.

MY point has ALWAYS been that Liefeld is a terrible artist, and though he deserves credit for the creation of the character and his look, it doesn't mean his lack of talent should be excused just because its his character. Artist such as Skottie Young, Dave Johnson, Chris Staggs, and Humberto Ramos (to name a few) have ALL drawn Deadpool better than Liefeld ever has, because at the very least, they all know how to draw feet, and nose, and they have an understanding of proportion! But I'm not saying they deserve credit, or Liefeld shouldn't. I'm simply saying people have improved on the look of the character, without changing anything. Captain America and the Fantastic Four have basically the same look now that they did when Jack Kirby first created them, but I still think other people have drawn them better. The same could be said with Steve Ditko and Spiderman. The only difference is Ditko and Kirby are/were GOOD ARTISTS.

Now what I don't understand, is that I am CLEARLY not the only person who hates Liefeld's art! Yet you continue to direct your aggression at me! That, and your reactions are riddled with shallow insults... why? Are you just not use to anyone being able to keep up with your argument, or is it that I don't have to insult you every other statement?

So... what about the Youngblood series that started in 2008? Has it been officially cancelled?
It was kinda good, at least before Rob got back and started treating it like it was 1992 again. When he got back, showing Casey and Donovan the door, I thought "now it' won't come out in time anymore". And so it was. Last issue came out in july last year, and nothing else was heard. And now, this.

. I'm sick of the character.  Sad thing is, no matter how much I complain, I'll still read it.

Why though? Deadpool was my favorite...But it's become too much, I only follow Way's run and I'm tempted to drop that since I'm not a big fan of his style.  The other runs seem pointless and just an attempt to rake in more cash.  Personally, I wish Benson wrote it, his Suicide Kings run was great.

@Ravn:
Liefeld drew Cable and Deadpool initially, re: also, he drawing it on books he regularly appears on and off,
which means the people that are okay with his stuff know this before buying it (that cover is a variant BTW).
so your issue is?

and no im not. my retort is how long did it take you to come up with that witty commentary?

now for starters...

lots more here...
http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/cable-deadpool

more needed?

dont worry, i dont intend to be able to sway a Deadpool basher from bashing his fans here.
i understand everyone needs a hobby. lol.

fun fact: Marvel requests Liefeld to guest illustrate on X-Force, Cable, and Deadpool from time to time.
reason: when he does it boots sales. thats right, more people show interest and buy the books when he's working on them,
despite critics.  he has a bad attitude, and some of his stuf, like Heroes Reborn he sluffed on, but most of his work
is good and his original stuff was celebrated when he first came on the scene.
Marvel commisions him for a good reason, he's wanted. if it werent for him pitching
in in the first place, both the current Cable run, the one before it, Cable & Deadpool,
ad other series would have ended sooner than they did. he brought sales up that much.

@Ravn: the larger questions i think are this.
1. people complaining about a buying book starring a character they dont like and an artist they dont like
2. people  complaining about a book starring a character they dont like and an artist they dont like that they
dont buy.

its not like this isnt appearing in Iron Man, New Avengers, ect.

as for the cover its a parody, again, and a hat-tip, and thats the exact nature of the Deadpool book. its also not as bad as your saying it is,
in particular because youve been wrong three times already and are still trying to recover the fumble for some odd reason(?). the sword handle is the same as it always was. i can post those scans if you want, i have them on hand in photobucket. the cover itself isnt that off,
and if it werent Robs name attached to it, i doubt it would have the criticism it does here (add Deadpool to that, bashing DP in his own forum, nothing new, see the above note about not buying the book).

This is the guy that has a problemo with Shatterstar's sexual evolution, right? Me tinks he be slightly confused. "
Yup... just where are Deadpool's hands disappearing inside Cable?  No wonder he's sweating!  What's up with Cable's upper legs merging into one?  Why does he have the waist of a pre-teen?    It's not just them.  Emma Frost (below DP's right leg) has the waist the size of a pencil.  No wonder her rib bones are so pronounced!  But that still doesn't explain her mighty thunder thighs.  Talking of Shatterstar (top right corner) he's still got his flowing ponytail & head-guard... someone's still in denial.  Also in the wrong outfit is Domino, who appears to be wearing the outfit she wore when Liefeld was last on X-Force... except that Domino never wore that (it was Copycat).  Yet this seems to be set in the modern day since you have Hope as a grown woman.  There is just SO much wrong with this image.  That includes the way that Nick Fury seems to  be perfectly comfortable stood below DP's crotch ;) "
and i HATE all the tiny pouches. they couldn't hold more than maybe 2-3 condoms each.

Rob Liefield's ideal woman has a 5ft top knot ponytail, 4 ribs, DDD's and carries 30+ condoms in conveniently placed pouches.

Ah, that is true... Still, it was basically a spear and looked stupid in Cable's hands anyway :P  Besides, Rob was clearly intending for what he drew to be a katana. It has the exact same handle as the ones on DP's back. "
no, he was drawing his Psimitar. Cable is wearing one of his costumes from that era, and the handle is the same as the Psimitars
was, especially in Liefelds last stint on X-Force. (Cable being another character aside from Deadpool that Rob took half of the chores of creating anyways)

let me simplify this.
the way Cable and Deadpool look was in fact created by Rob Liefeld.
so how is it exactly he is not drawing them like the original again?
