In this week’s AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #11, Professor Charles Xavier dies at the hands of Cyclops. The issue, written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Olivier Coipel, sees the Avengers recruiting as many Marvel heroes as possible before heading out to take down the remaining two members of the Phoenix Five – Cyclops and Emma Frost. Unfortunately, the corruption of the Phoenix becomes too much for Cyclops to bear, resulting in him lashing out and killing his former mentor in the process. A world without Professor Xavier will be carrying over into Marvel NOW! as part of the X-Men’s new status quo.

Apparently, killing of Xavier wasn’t always part of the plan for AVENGERS VS. X-MEN. According to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso, that idea came later in the development process.

When we first crafted Avengers VS. X-Men, we didn’t set out to kill any characters but as the story progressed it became obvious that this had to be the last stand of Charles Xavier. He’s one of my favorite characters and while like all fans I’m sad to see him perish, both Brian and Olivier deliver a powerful, dramatic conclusion to his story. Rest assured his death will reverberate across the Marvel Universe, leading into major launches like Uncanny Avengers and All-New X-Men this fall.

Lastly, here are a few preview pages from AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #11, showcasing the battle between Xavier and Cyclops. The issue is on sale now.

That is it! Cyclops needs to die now! All he is is a jerk, even before he was possessed by the Phoenix Force. Him killing Xavier, the man who took him in when he needed him most and has shown him nothing but love and pride

As well as lying to and manipulating him on numerous occasions...

I as a reader almost completely hate the X-men because of Cyclops

The guy without whom the X-men would not exist.

Terribly written fights aside, the Avengers have been on the offensive this whole time. If Cap and Iron Man had ACTUALLY intended to find a peaceful solution to this whole Phoenix thing then none of this would have happened. And if the Avengers hadn't continued to harass the P-5 then this climactic fight wouldn't be happening. The truth is, Cyclops has one of the strongest senses of self control in the M U. I have no doubt that he could contain the power the the Phoenix Force, were it not for every person he has ever known or loved trying to take him down.

Killing Xavier (while hardly a surprise at this point), demonstrates how far Scott has been pushed. He is not Charlie's golden boy anymore. He's not quite Magneto, either, because he was still seeking peaceful co-existence. He nearly accomplished what both of them have failed to do. It has been made clear that there can be no peace. In a world with no room for peace, there's no room for life incarnate. Only death. That's what it's come to.

I still don't like the way Cyclops has been written the last couple of years, but if he deserves to die for his crimes it's because the police, judge, and jury have been against him from the beginning.

Don't you love being spoiled by some news sight, even though you weren't looking to spoiled?

Marvel, there's other things you can other than kill people. Captain America could get married. Thor could become a cyborg. Spider-man could be a clone and the real Spider-man could show up and reveal that Gwen Stacy has been alive all this time.

Just some ideas, Marvel. Love you. :)

I KNEW IT! He's EVIL! I saw this coming the past couple of years!

Ever since Cyclops made Idie kill, I knew he was becoming evil. Scott Summers is offically a terrorist. SOMEONE KILL HIM PLEASE!
