Legendary Marvel Character Dies in AVENGERS VS X-MEN #11

How is Cyclops ever going to come back from this? Like seriously, Marvel have cemented him as the big bad.

Is this really that big of a deal?

The last time I read anything X-men was a few years back around the time Deadly Genesis came out and I was under the impression Xavier was mostly gone and not doing much these days. Had he come back at some point?

Probably because when Jean was the Dark Phoenix they didn't fully understand the power. Now that they do and they see what happens to the host they won't trust it.

Has Comicvine forgotten that Prof. X has died multiple times and been brought back, this is no longer shocking.

In fact when i started reading X-Men again a year ago i was shocked that he was alive.

He will return, he "died" at the end of Messiah Complex as well but at least he went out like a badass if this is his actual death.

Marvel screwed up Professor X years ago, so it's not really all that sad to see him go.

To be honest I thought Red Hulk was going to kick the bucket.

He's only had one issue to himself and is often just used as background image to make things beefier. I love Red Hulk to death (he's my favorite of the hulks as well as being one of my top favorite heroes), but that would've had a much bigger " Oh no they didn't" moment that Professor X dying again. and again. and again. and again.

Kill off Cyclops....at least he would get some peace then...

Like many in the comments, I echo the sentiment that Professor X hasn't been an active, or relevant agent in the Marvel Universe for quite some time, his legacy, sure, but not the man in the present. I too question how permanent this apparent death is, as Charlie X has a proven record of being not-dead-yet.

I hope, if something positive comes from this, is that they can turn Cyclops' character into a new and interesting direction. He's been careening down the path protecting the mutant race since the House of M, he deserves a chance to change the tone.

Scott had one fifth of the power for numerous issues, and he used the power only to feed starving children, stop earthquakes (with terrible comic book science) and revive extinct species. It was the other four who sadly went mad due to the power.

Then he gets the whole, corrupted thing, and this is the result. Of course, none of this would have happened at all had Unit and Iron Man not screwed the whole situation up.

Whatever, this whole event has been terrible. There have been individual good stories, but the event itself is just dumb, dumb, dumb.

Well actually Jean didn't consume any planets. She ate a star and it killed a couple billion beings on a planet that was dependent on it...but we don't know she knew the planet would wither and die! She was just hungry. Also, Scott was operating on a fraction of the Phoenix's power and as such was still in control of it when he was a cosmic philanthropist...why am I even dignifying this wackiness? Hahaha.

Basically, I just hate Scott and want to see him pay for becoming insufferable over the past decade or so.

2. You're right. And anyways, without the visor it's possible his optic blasts might backfire and blow most of his head off which is why he has to wear the helmet. That gives me hope.

Xavier dies as often as Marvel has an event. It hasn't stuck yet and it won't stick this time. Even if it did, like others have said he wasn't even in any of the multitude of monthly X-titles, nor in AVX for more than a page or so. For all intents and purposes he might as well already have been dead. I haven't paid for a single issue of AVX since issue 1, but I have been reading my friend's copies in order to stay current. Even without wasting money on this series I feel that I am wasting my time.

I'll read the Avengers books when they come out, since I love Hickman. But otherwise I'm not picking up any new Marvel books until some series changes happen. Double shipping is a really stupid strategy to milk fans dry. Even the few writers good enough to keep to a two week schedule can't save the book they are working on because double shipping keeps a series from having a long term regular artist, compromising visual consistency (Avengers Academy and Thunderbolts are two obvious examples). And more importantly a double shipped series at 3.99 is equal to about three 2.99 monthly series at DC.

I grew up with the Marvel characters, they have always been my favorite publisher. A year and a half ago 3/4 of my pull-list was Marvel. Now 3/4 of my pull-list is DC. Very little of that is because of the New 52. Much more of it is because of all the Marvel books I have been dropping.

Are you referring to the rumor that it's Scott that's getting dissected in Uncanny Avengers #1? That would be an interesting take on his powers.

IT would appear a era of Marvel domination in the comic market is coming to an end, or ended.

Someone dying in Marvel pretty much lost all meaning when they declared the guaranteed 1 death every 4 months mandate.
