Lance Briggs on C2E2 Exclusive Darkness Cover

Chicago Bears Linebacker, #55 Lance Briggs, to grace the cover of the Darkness because he can.

He's not happy because he won. He's happy because it's Wednesday... New comic day. (Yes, I know there are no football games on Wednesdays)

Chicago Bears Linebacker, Lance Briggs, loves comic books, and he's stated his love to the press about it quite a few times. Well, in a recent press release from Top Cow comics, announced that the 5 time Pro-Bowler will appear on a C2E2 exclusive cover of Darkness #84.

"I've been in love with comics since I was 7 years old.  I remember reading my first ever comic, the Original X-Men, and thinking that it was the coolest thing ever," said Briggs. "Top Cow and C2E2 are making my childhood dreams come true."

Lance is a huge comic book fan and has his own website related to comics, which he obviously frequents.

”It’s very in vogue for celebrities to espouse a love of comics these days, but rarer to find someone of Lance’s stature that has a true, deep seeded love of comics,” commented Publisher Filip Sablik. “Lance’s love of comics is clear to anyone who spends five minutes with him and his passion for Top Cow and The Darkness is second to none. We’re incredibly proud to showcase his love of Marc Silvestri’s favorite son on the special commemorative cover for Chicago fans.”

As Filip put it, lots of celebrities claim to love comics, especially when gearing up to play a part in an upcoming comic book film. Whether or not they actually read is up for debate, but Lance is one of those guys who really does love comics. I know I've stated this numerous times, but it can be hard to believe. Who would have thought that a linebacker for my favorite football team would have the same hobbies as I do?

David Dearmore took the photo, which has Briggs wearing a Darkness t-shirt designed by Iron Fist Clothing. You can pick the issue up by stopping at the Top Cow C2E2 booth, but make sure to come early since it is "extremely limited." Briggs will be autographing whatever you want, even this super awesome Darkness issue on Sunday, April 18th at Table 2. There is a charge for the autograph, but all proceeds go to the Briggs 4Kidz foundation, so at least it's going to a good cause. The Briggs 4Kidz Foundation  "raise[s] awareness and funds to help those in our community who have come across less fortunate times. Committed to providing emotional and financial support to persons/groups in need."

In addition, Briggs will be involved in a couple of panels during C2E2.

Lance Briggs will be hosting a panel titled “Lance Briggs: Dreams Come True” on Saturday, April 17, at E353 from 3:00-4:00pm.   At the panel, geek out with Briggs as he talks about his favorite comics and shares the stage for a dream come true conversation with some special guests from Top Cow including Matt Banning, Ron Marz, Phil Hester, Nelson Blake II, and Mark Waid.   Briggs will also make a special appearance at the Top Cow “Herd It Through the Bo-Vine” panel on Saturday, April 17 at 7:15-8:15pm in E450.

So, if you're interested, remember these times and dates for C2E2 to meet up with Lance Briggs and here him talk about the other passion in his life, comic books.

Da Bears.  Anyhow, that's great! I love it when a celebrity actually can back up his or her claims when they say they have a passion for something, especially comics.
You bring up a good point, inferiorego, it seems so many actors and the like CLAIM they like comics but it's only for self-serving purposes for possible movie roles.
Briggs can back up what he says...lineback that is......*pun intended*

I am especially drawn to this because I'm a big Lance Briggs fan. I would have bought his jersey, but my buddy bought it first, and we have a rule on gameday, "no wearing the same jersey to the same party."

Comicvine should totally get Lance Briggs to contribute here! Get him to review The Darkness or X-Men for you guys.

And I remember seeing a few extras they brought to the Calgary con, and now I wish I had picked it up, instead of just the Angelus variant.
